Chapter 89 - Chapter 89: Crab Pots and the Sailor’s Marvelous Trash Can Adventure

Back at the farm…

After setting aside the Crabs and Shrimp from his Crab Pots, Ron sent Fletchinder to the coop to incubate eggs. He then rummaged through storage for materials to build more pots.

Before unlocking the Level 5 profession, Crab Pots required 40 wood and 3 Iron Bars.

But after choosing Trapper, the recipe would change to 25 wood and 2 Copper Bars.

Ron sorted through his stockpile, then scanned his Rattata crew. After days together, he could distinguish each by subtle differences—but for clarity, he decided to name this one.

"Since you'll handle Crab Pots full-time…" Ron crouched down. "How about 'Crab Boss'?"

The Rattata sat up, confused.

Ron chuckled. "Then… 'Sailor' it is."

As he crafted, he explained Sailor's duties:

Harvesting Crab Pots granted fishing XP. Ron planned to focus all its leveling on this skill.

"Ratta—" Sailor watched intently as Ron demonstrated baiting pots, securing ropes to shore, and directing Geodude to toss pots into the water.

"Ratta!"

Ron patted Sailor's head, then built a dedicated storage chest for bait and seafood. After showing Sailor the chest, he led it to the beach to practice the route.

"You can take the mine cart or walk," Ron said, pointing to the cart.

"Ratta~"

"Let's walk today," Ron decided, leading Sailor along the path.

At the dock, Ron deployed the new pots while Sailor observed. Then they headed home.

Summer 3 – Early Morning

Indeedee, fully recovered, rose before dawn. By the time Ron and the Pokémon woke, breakfast was already sizzling.

Using Psychic power, it fetched ingredients from the fridge, washed them, lit the stove, and fried food with practiced ease. It couldn't cook complex dishes yet—but after watching Ron once, it mastered simple meals. Feeding everyone? No problem.

Ron opened his eyes to floating vegetables and Froakie waiting by the stove.

"Froak!"

"Morning."

Indeedee glanced back, ears perked.

"Thanks for handling this," Ron said, moving to help—just as finished plates floated to the table.

Rattata tumbled out of bed, washed at the pond, and now sat rubbing their faces at the table.

After a lively breakfast, work began.

Dawn air hung cool and damp, smelling of wet soil. Ron inspected the fields:

– Hops sprouted, vines climbing trellises

– The Kalos seeds (treated with Speed-Gro) had germinated well

– Cucumbers—unlike Stardew crops—thrived across seasons, blooming anew

Ron grabbed his watering can and followed the watering crew.

Meanwhile, on the Beach road…

It was Sailor's first solo assignment. Leading its assigned Geodude, it chose to walk—not ride the mine cart.

Exploring town wasn't new, but last time, the moralistic Combee had vetoed Sailor's favorite pastime: dumpster diving.

As a Mouse Pokémon, Sailor had no qualms about trash. And Pelican Town's bins were special.

A single sniff told it:

- Actual garbage

- Edible scraps

- Even hidden ore!

Leaving treasures in trash? Unthinkable!

"Ratta!" Sailor stood upright, pawing a metal bin. It turned to Geodude, eyes gleaming. What do you think of this shiny container?

"Yoo?" Geodude tilted its head. Huh?

"Ratta." If there's treasure inside… wanna keep it?

Sailor tapped the bin—clang!

"Yoo!"

Geodude seized the bin in a bear hug.

"Ratta—!" Sailor panicked, gesturing frantically. Put it down!

Once Geodude complied, Sailor scanned the area, then dove into the bin.

Bingo!

It emerged clutching a strange rock. Sniffing, it sensed ore within—and handed it to Geodude.

"Ratta! Break it!"

Geodude's fist slammed down—crack!—revealing a glittering diamond inside the shattered mineral.

Sailor held it to the sun, admiring the sparkle, then tucked it into Geodude's storage chest.
