Chapter 11 - Power of Light!?

Chapter 10 - Power of Light!?

That afternoon, as dusk settled over Kuoh Town.

"Shiho's really throwing herself into training. She's even neglecting her own Master."

Cain said the words with mock complaint, but a genuine smile tugged at his lips.

No Master in his right mind would dislike a servant who pushed so hard to grow stronger.

He left Kuoh Academy, but instead of heading straight home, he lingered in the shadows and waited.

"They're finally out."

His gaze settled on a figure with a schoolbag slung over one shoulder. Cain's eyes glinted.

Hyoudou Issei.

The so called protagonist of DxD world.

Not to mention, the Sacred Gear housing the Sekiryuutei the Boosted Gear...interested him greatly.

He flexed his fingers. A faint magic circle flickered and vanished.

At the same moment, somewhere across town.

Issei scratched his head as he walked home. "Huh? How did I end up here?"

The streets were eerily empty. No cars, no pedestrians.

A chill crawled up his spine.

He broke into a jog.

Suddenly, a young man in elegant, almost aristocratic clothing stepped into view ahead.

"Uh, excuse me, I think I'm..."

The words died in his throat.

An icy wave slammed into him.

The next instant, Issei stood frozen solid, encased in a perfect block of ice.

"I won't kill any innocent being..."

Cain murmured, walking up. "I'll figure out how to extract the Boosted Gear later."

A dark crimson magic circle flared in his palm.

Issei's figure vanished entirely, teleported away to his home.

Cain turned to leave, but paused slightly.

His expression shifted.

"Light power?"

As a devil, he was acutely sensitive to holy energy.

Even without actively scanning, he could feel it prickling the air.

Yet… this light didn't repulse him at all.

"Must be the Primordial bloodline," he muttered.

Moments later, a white-haired man in exorcists robes stepped into view.

"Well, well. What have we here? A stray devil."

Fried Sellzen's face twisted into a manic grin. The stench of blood clung to him.

"The stray exorcist."

Cain's voice carried faint disappointment.

He'd hoped for a fallen angel...someone who might know how to safely extract Sacred Gears.

Fried cackled. "That's right! Those cowards abandoned God long ago. Only I am worthy to serve Him."

"You filthy devil!! your presence here is a gift from the Lord!"

Cain listened without reaction, strolling forward as though taking an evening walk.

If he hadn't wanted to test his theory, Fried would already be dead.

"Oh? Walking right up to me?" Fried's expression turned savage. "Devils these days have no fear."

"It's all those bastards' fault. And you lot… no reverence at all!"

He yanked something from his coat, a hilt with no blade.

Buzz.

Holy power surged.

A blinding sword of light extended from the grip.

"Repent, devil! Die!"

Fried lunged, blade slashing down in a streak of lethal brilliance.

Clang.

The light blade struck… and stopped.

Fried's eyes bulged in horror.

The sword had only torn Cain's clothing.

Cain hadn't even bothered with a barrier.

Pure physical toughness had shrugged it off.

"How…?"

Fried had wielded light power, the natural bane of devils.

Yet it barely scratched this one.

"My guess was correct," Cain said quietly. "Holy light doesn't affect me anymore."

The difference in raw strength was massive, of course.

But the complete absence of the usual weakness confirmed it: his awakened Primordial bloodline had erased that racial vulnerability.

Fried realized too late. "Something's wrong with you..."

Boom.

Cain's fist drove into his chest with casual force.

Fried's body folded, shot backward like a cannonball, and exploded mid-air in a spray of red.

Cain withdrew his hand, expression unchanged, as if he'd swatted a mosquito.

A quick wave cleaned the scene with magic.

Then he vanished into the night.

Night fell fully.

The moon hung bright and clear.

Shiho trudged home, legs heavy from hours of training.

"Training is exhausting."

"But It's completely worth it."

She smiled softly to herself.

The stunned looks on Rias and the other's faces had been deeply satisfying.

Best of all, she'd learned an advanced demonic technique: Lightning Strike.

Gazing up at the starry sky, a peaceful look settled over her.

Once, she wouldn't have dared dream of this kind of life.

All of it thanks to Cain.

"Speaking of which… my demonic power's empty again."

Her cheeks flushed crimson at the memory.

Ten minutes later, she spotted a familiar figure waiting in front of the villa.

"This is the right address."

Akemi Miyano stared at the luxurious house, brow furrowed.

She'd heard about the research facility's destruction.

She'd assumed Shiho would be under heavy surveillance or worse.

But this?

It didn't look like captivity at all.

Remembering her sister's hesitant tone on the phone, worry crept in.

"Sis! You made it."

Shiho appeared, beaming brightly. "Why are you just standing there? Come in!"

Akemi stared.

Good heavens.

Since when did her sister smile like that?

...

Creak.

The villa gate swung open.

"Sis, isn't this place amazing?"

Shiho led Akemi inside.

Akemi slipped on the guest slippers, glancing around thoughtfully.

No sign of any organization members.

This really didn't feel like surveillance.

Her worry eased, only to be replaced by deeper curiosity.
