Chapter 41 - Kruger II

"And it's not only that," another ghost elder said. "Each of us once collected a variety of fighting techniques for the one who would carry the legacy of our great ancestor."

"So if you don't want Kruger's Killer Needle Arts, just choose any other grave. Depending on your luck, you may obtain other combat arts we have gathered," he said.

Alan looked at them carefully.

"What if I try to take all of them?" he asked.

"You won't be able to," the elders replied calmly. "Why do you think we still linger here as spirits? It is because we want to see someone who will surpass our ancestor. And we are also the guides for the legacy bearer, you won't get anything without any effort."

As they spoke, a red level indicator appeared above them.

Level: ???

Alan's lips twitched.

He couldn't even see their levels, which meant they were overwhelmingly powerful.

The system really made a lot of changes in this world, Alan thought.

In the original book, they only gave Grid the location of Pagma's Sword Dance and then disappeared. After that, they were never shown again.

But here…

They looked more like powerful hidden bosses than mere quest NPCs.

At the same time, Alan received a quest notification.

The quest informed him that he could either choose the first grave, which contained Kruger's Killer Needle Arts, or select any other grave to obtain a random combat skill.

However, if he attempted to take more than one reward, the quest would immediately fail. The penalty would be severe:

–10 levels and his Albantino's class will also be deleted.

All Albantino lineage elders would turn hostile and will kill him.

It's basically a gacha, Alan thought, glancing at the ghost elders, who waited patiently to see what he would choose.

Alan looked at each of them. All of them were smiling, but from their expressions alone, he couldn't tell anything. He closed his eyes and chose instinctively.

"Okay. I choose this one," he said, stepping toward the fourth grave.

Four had always been his lucky number in his previous life. He hadn't checked whether it held the same meaning in this one.

"You made a good choice," the elder whose grave it was said.

A book floated out from the grave, hovering in the air.

"I am not like my grandfather. I don't want my grave to be dug," the elder added calmly, while his grandfather merely coughed.

"Here, take it. I wonder what you will gain," he said as the book floated into Alan's hands.

[You have obtained Alex's Secret Book]

"I dabbled in both blacksmithing and alchemy, hoping to reach the level of the legend" the elder said. "But while I failed to do so, I was able to craft several unique weapons favored by the Demon Slayer, Alex."

"In return for my service, he shared some of his fighting techniques with me."

"Depending on your compatibility, you may obtain two to five skills from this book."

Alan nodded and opened the book.

[You have read Alex's Secret Book]

[You do not have the Alex Successor Class – requirements not met]

[Albantino's Successor Class detected – Alex acknowledges you]

[You have gained: Magic Purification]

[New Energy Source acquired: Purifying Energy]

[You have gained: Alex's Weapon Mastery]

[You have gained: Condemnation Sword Skill]

[ You have a new resource, you can use this new resource to use skills compatible with it instead of mana ]

"We don't know whether you are lucky or not," another elder said. "After all, the Demon Slayer shines brightest in hell."

Alan nodded as he focused on the skills he had obtained.

[Magic Purification (Passive)]

• 1% of your mana is converted into Purifying Energy.

• It is 5 points of Purifying Energy for every point of Intelligence.

• Deals 100% increased damage to Demonkin, Undead and similar enemies.

[Alex's Weapon Mastery (Passive)]

• Allows the use of all weapon types.

• While wielding any weapon:

 – Attack Power increases by 5%

 – Attack Speed increases by 10%

• Effects are doubled when using swords and firearms.

[Condemnation Sword (Active)]

• A powerful sword technique that deals damage equal to 100% of the target's Defense, plus increased damage based on the karmic sin of the target.

*There is no limit to increase in damage.

• Energy Cost: 100 Sword Energy

• Cooldown: 30 minutes

• Can be used with Purifying Energy. ]

"Hm. These skills are especially powerful against Undead and Demonkin. Still, Condemnation Sword is useful even outside that," Alan said with a smile. He wasn't disappointed at all with his new skill set.

"Best of luck, Legacy Carrier," the elders said as they returned to their graves one by one.

"Hm… now that I think about it, these skills came at the perfect time. I was going to deal with vampires anyway," Alan smiled. The Mumud quest was already leading him into the Vampire City.

"Good. Next stop—Reidan."

With that, Alan left the graveyard and headed toward Khan's Smithy.

"You're back. You came at a good time—meet Grid," Khan said.

Alan turned to see a Korean man sitting nearby, casually drinking water.

"Nice to meet you," Alan said.

Grid nodded and shook his hand.

"Khan talked a lot about you," Grid said. "About how you're Albantino's successor and have great skills."

Alan looked at him quietly.

"You have a hidden class, right?" Grid suddenly asked, it was an rude to inquire about others sensitive information.

I forgot… early-day Grid had a pretty rotten personality, Alan thought, but he kept his calm.

"Hm. But it's only Unique grade," Alan said calmly. "Unlike yours, which is Legendary."

Grid smiled smugly.

"Hah. Don't be disappointed when I start mass-producing Legendary gear and you can't," Grid said confidently.

Alan simply nodded.

"If you can really make Legendary gear," Alan said casually, "how about you make me a sword?"

Grid stared at him.

"Huh? What do I gain from it?" he asked, rubbing his fingers together in a coin-counting gesture.

Alan nodded. "Of course, I'll pay."

Grid smiled immediately.

"Alright. I'll do it."

"Good," Alan said, pulling something out. "Here's the production method and materials. I'll provide enough for five sets."

"Make me one Legendary sword."

"Huh?" Grid looked confused as Alan said calmly " if one have to commission something from a Blacksmith one have to provide Production method as well as materials" he said.

"O-of course I know that" Grid said bashful and then added " I was just surprised you gave me Five set of materials" He said.

"Though since you have started just yet, you should practice a lot first then try for my sword" Alan said as he was not in a hurry as the Production method he gave was level 310+ sword one, so he can use it for long time easily if Grid were to make it.

Alan then bid farewell to him leaving Khan smithy and then he met with Piaro and then both left for Reidan.
