Feng Che watched as the Ekans mimicked by the Ditto suddenly lunged at him with a predatory snap.
Without hesitation, he twisted the nozzle of the garden hose and blasted a high-pressure stream of water directly at the serpent. The sudden impact forced the Ditto to halt in its tracks.
[Ditto: Referee! This guy is cheating! He's using a Water Gun!]
Feng Che watched as the drenched Ditto's body began to ripple and undulate. In an instant, it shifted into a spherical Pokémon—a Voltorb. Arcs of yellow electricity crackled across its surface as it prepared a Thunder Shock.
[Ditto: Oh, you're in for it now! I'm going to shock you so hard your own mother won't recognize you!]
The Ditto unleashed the bolt, only to stare in dumbfounded silence as Feng Che remained standing, a calm smile on his face.
[Ditto: Why isn't he frying?!]
With its limited Pokémon brain capacity, it clearly hadn't accounted for the fact that high-grade rubber boots and gloves are non-conductive. While extreme heat from a high-voltage current could eventually melt rubber, this Ditto's current output was nowhere near that level of intensity.
[Ditto: Dammit! Watch me turn into a Golbat! I'll suck this human dry!]
The moment the Ditto shifted into the large-mouthed bat, Feng Che raised his net launcher and squeezed the trigger. A massive, weighted net deployed mid-air, pinning the Golbat to the floor.
[Ditto: Curseees! This human is too much!][Ditto: Fine! I'll turn into a Muk and stink him to death!]
The creature rippled again, growing into a two-meter-long pile of purple sludge that exuded a nauseating, putrid stench. The Muk easily oozed through the gaps in the net. It opened its cavernous mouth, exhaling a cloud of toxic, foul-smelling gas.
The smell was truly revolting, but Feng Che didn't flinch. He leveled his Stun Gun and fired a Thunder Shell. Golden electric arcs danced across the Muk's slimy body, filling the room with the scent of ozone and scorched sludge.
[Ditto: AHHH! It hurts! My body is paralyzed!][Ditto: I underestimated him. This human is as cunning as they come.][Ditto: No matter! Next, I'll become a Weezing and use Self-Destruct to take him with me!][Ditto: To hell with it! If I can't beat him, I'll blow us both up!]
Ignoring the pain of the paralysis, the Ditto forced a transformation into a floating, dual-headed Weezing. Just as it began to glow with the volatile energy of its final gambit, Feng Che fired again.
This time, a Frost Shell hit the Weezing dead-on. The Pokémon was instantly encased in a thick block of ice and slammed into the floor with a heavy thud.
[Ditto: Oh no... I'm running out of stamina.][Ditto: I won't yield! I won't!][Ditto: See if you can handle a Gyarados! I'll scare the life out of you!]
In the Ditto's mind, Gyarados was the pinnacle of terror. The ice block shattered as a massive, serpentine sea dragon erupted forth, nearly filling the entire fifty-square-meter room.
The Gyarados fixed its murderous gaze on Feng Che, only to see him calmly step toward the corner and retrieve his Super Rod. He slammed his thumb onto the "100,000 Volt" discharge button.
The room was instantly engulfed in a blinding storm of lightning.
[Ditto: SON OF A—!][Ditto: I'm done. I'm actually done. How many gadgets does this guy have?!][Ditto: I give up! I really give up! How did he prepare for every single one of my forms?][Ditto: Numb... everything is numb...][Ditto: Stamina... gone...]
Under the relentless surge of electricity, the Ditto finally broke. The massive Gyarados dissolved, leaving behind a scorched, pink, gelatinous blob with dot-like eyes—now spinning into dizzying spirals.
"You're free, Ditto," Feng Che said softly. He pressed the release button on the secondhand Poké Ball, severing the bond between the Pokémon and the device.
Just as the Ditto drifted toward unconsciousness, it felt the sharp tap of a fresh Poké Ball against its forehead.
[Ditto: Holy—!]
The ball shook once. Twice. Three times. Then, the red light faded.
"Finally caught it," Feng Che exhaled, stretching his aching muscles. This Ditto had been incredibly tenacious. If he hadn't spent his credits on specialized gear, he never would have subdued it.
Ekans, Weezing, Golbat, Voltorb, Muk, Gyarados...Plus, its thoughts mentioned Persian, Raticate, and Spearow.This thing can control its transformations at will.
He had used his eavesdropping ability to snatch what was likely the most valuable Pokémon in the entire Team Rocket stock.
"Come on out, Ditto."
He released the singed blob and pulled a bottle of medicine from his bracelet—a custom blend of Viridian Forest herbs and Berries designed to heal burns and restore stamina rapidly. He applied it gently to the Ditto's body.
After a few moments, the Ditto regained consciousness. It opened its tiny eyes wearily, looking up at the human who was now tending to its wounds. It closed its eyes again, considering.
[Ditto: This human used some cheap tricks... but I accept him as my Trainer.][Ditto: Since he recognized me from the start, he clearly knows my value. He probably won't throw me back into a lab. After all, my first requirement for a Trainer was that they actually be smart enough to see through my disguise.]
It seems it has accepted me. Time for the next step, Feng Che thought. He knew the way to a Pokémon's heart was through its stomach. He poured a bowl of his custom-made Berry juice and held it out.
[Ditto: What's that smell? It's... it's amazing.]
The Ditto's eyes snapped open. It stared at the fragrant liquid, its mouth practically watering.
[Ditto: So good... No! Stay strong! If I give in now, I'll lose all my dignity!]
Five minutes later.
The Ditto was sprawled on its back, its belly bulging and round. Several empty bottles lay scattered around it.
It was a textbook case of a "grand-scale turnaround." Dignity was gone; the juice was just too good.
