Raj prefers to cooperate with Leslie Winkle, not because he wants to work with someone without getting tired, but for a more important reason: Leslie Winkle is not only smart, but also an experimental physicist. The job of an experimental physicist is to design experiments to verify the truth of a theory. Once Raj and Howard complete the research on superfluid surface tension, they need to build a superfluid vortex model for verification. At that time, Leslie Winkle, an experimental physicist, can just come in handy.
"Leslie Winkle?!" After hearing Raj's candidate, Howard suddenly had a wretched smile on his face. "It's a good choice! I think she is very hot."
"Howie, now I'm starting to worry that choosing her was a mistake." Seeing his appearance, Raj couldn't help shaking his head and said, "You have to remember, we asked her to help us, not for you to have an opportunity to harass her. You must control yourself."
"Don't worry, buddy, when it comes to laws related to harassment, I am a self-taught expert." Howard said triumphantly, "I promise that I will never mess around."
"It's nothing to be proud of." Raj said speechlessly. "Okay, you just need to be self-disciplined. But before inviting her, I think we should take precautions."
"What do you mean?" Howard asked doubtfully.
"You and I both know the value of this paper, which is related to hundreds of billions of dollars of interests." Raj explained. "With such a big interest at stake, anyone may become greedy, and we cannot be completely defenseless."
"It makes sense." Howard nodded. Vicious incidents of robbing people of projects, papers, and inventions in the field of scientific research are really not uncommon. Even the famous Edison once robbed Tesla of his invention. Once the quantum navigation system is successfully developed and widely applied to the military and civilian fields, the benefits will be more than hundreds of billions. Raj and Howard are its inventors, and the patent authorization alone is worth tens of billions. With such a big interest, one should indeed be careful.
"So I think we should sign a contract and distribute the benefits clearly, so as to avoid future disputes." Raj suggested again.
"OK, I happen to have a relative who is a lawyer, and I'll ask him to draft a contract." Howard nodded immediately. As a Jewish man, many of his family relatives are lawyers.
"Well, my sister Priya is also a lawyer. After the contract is drawn up, I will hand it over to her for review. If there is no problem, we will sign it together." Raj also nodded.
Two days later, Howard's cousin finalized the contract draft.
The contract included confidentiality clauses, compensation clauses, profit distribution clauses, and more. The agreement was quite detailed.
Raj immediately contacted Priya and asked her to review the contract.
"Rajesh, what have you been up to lately? Why did you think of signing this kind of thing?" Priya asked curiously.
Raj briefly explained his research. "Priya, once this invention research is successful, your brother will be as famous as Edison and Einstein, and my wealth will be comparable to Jobs."
"Really?" Priya was surprised. "Wow, Rajesh, you are really talented."
"Thank you for the compliment," Raj laughed.
In the evening, Priya put forward some supplementary opinions after carefully reviewing the contract.
After discussing with Howard, Raj felt that these opinions were very pertinent, so they were all incorporated into the contract.
After the final verification and confirmation, Raj and Howard both signed their names.
The contract clarified Raj's important identity as creator and person in charge, and gave him the power to recruit, restrict, and expel partners.
However, in terms of benefit distribution, Raj made a concession and shared the patent with Howard equally. If they recruited partners in the future, the amount of patent rights would be determined by the extent of their contribution.
After finishing the contract, but before looking for Leslie, Raj's birthday party on October 6th arrived.
Raj invited Leslie to the party, planning to find an opportunity to talk to her there.
In the early morning of October 6th, Raj was sleeping with Penny in his arms.
Right at that moment, the phone rang urgently.
Both of them woke up at once.
Raj grabbed the phone and looked—it was Raj's father, Dr. Koothrappali, calling.
He quickly picked up the phone. "Hi, Papa."
"Rajesh, happy birthday!" Dr. Koothrappali laughed.
"Thank you, Papa," Raj said.
"Rajesh, your sister told me about your recent affairs," Dr. Koothrappali said. "Good job. Keep going."
Knowing that his son would have major scientific achievements, Dr. Koothrappali was very proud.
"Thank you, Papa. I will," Raj agreed.
"Okay, if you want a birthday gift, just ask," Dr. Koothrappali said.
"Thank you, Papa, but I don't plan to use my family's money anymore. I've grown up, and it's time to stand on my own," Raj said.
"What?! Do you really think so?" Dr. Koothrappali said in surprise.
It has been three years since Raj had graduated, but he still cannot support himself, and has to rely on his parents to pay off the credit card every month.
Although the money is nothing to the Koothrappali family, the son has been unable to support himself for a long time, which makes the Koothrappali couple very worried, fearing that he will become dependent on them indefinitely.
Now that he has plans to become self-reliant, Dr. Koothrappali is very excited.
"Yes, Papa." Raj said affirmatively.
"Oh, Rajesh, I'm so happy that you have grown up." Dr. Koothrappali said excitedly.
"Let me say a few words to my son." At this moment, Mrs. Koothrappali grabbed the phone, "Rajesh, happy birthday!"
"Thank you Mama." Raj nodded.
"Rajesh, you need to be self-reliant, and your mother is very supportive. But if you are short of money, you must tell your mother, don't force yourself, mother loves you!" Mrs. Koothrappali said with concern.
My son has never been self-reliant since he was a child. She was very worried about whether he could persevere, and even more worried that he would suffer because of it.
"Don't worry, Mama, I love you too." Raj laughed.
"Raj, who are you talking on the phone with?" Penny rubbed her sleepy eyes, yawned and asked Raj.
"Rajesh, there is a woman by your side?!" Mrs. Koothrappali cried out in surprise when she heard it.
For so many years, Raj has never had a girlfriend, and she and her husband always thought he was gay.
Now she heard a woman's voice beside Raj, which made her suddenly surprised and delighted.
"Yes, she is my girlfriend Penny." Raj introduced with a smile, and then turned to Penny. "Honey, come say hello to my family."
"Oh, hi~" Even though Penny was a little annoyed at being woken up from her sleep, she still greeted the Koothrappalis very politely.
