Ronin quickly got Hisoka's number from Millia. After a moment of thought, he decided to forward it straight to Kurapika.
He dialed Kurapika immediately to explain the situation.
"I don't know what he told Millia to convince her he could help us, but I just ran into him under a different alias. I know what he's after."
Ronin kept it brief. "Hisoka wants a one-on-one death match with Chrollo Lucilfer. His moral compass is broken, so there's no telling what he'll do to get what he wants.
"Whether you want to play along with him is your call. Just use your judgment when you talk to him. One thing is certain, though: once he gets his fight with Chrollo, I'm probably next on his list."
"Will that be a problem?" Kurapika asked, cutting to the chase.
"No," Ronin replied without hesitation.
Hisoka's combat instincts and talent were undeniable, but Ronin had even more confidence in himself.
"Alright. I understand. Leave it to me," Kurapika said confidently.
Standing on the edge of the roof, Ronin looked down. Below, mafia members were suddenly turning on each other, opening fire on their own comrades in a chaotic frenzy.
The Phantom Troupe had started their operation.
That chaos was likely Shalnark's handiwork—his ability, Black Voice.
Ronin hung up the phone. He had no intention of going back inside the building. Instead, he stood on the ledge, enjoying the cool night breeze.
Meanwhile, on the middle floors of the skyscraper, two figures were slowly making their way down.
A massive En radiated from the shorter figure, expanding in the blink of an eye to cover a radius of a hundred meters.
It was large enough to envelope the entire Cemetery Building.
The source of this terrifying aura was Zeno Zoldyck.
"This job really isn't worth the money," Zeno grumbled with genuine feeling. His senses picked up Ronin on the roof. "That reckless kid... slacking off at a time like this."
Ronin sensed the En immediately.
He had felt it earlier during his fight with Hisoka. Judging by the signature, it was definitely Zeno.
It was distinct from the other, strange presence he had felt during the fight.
One of the shadow clones he had dispatched was already closing in on the two Zoldycks.
Suddenly, Zeno seemed to sense something. He nodded slightly to Silva. Silva's aura flared, and the two of them accelerated, rushing toward the lower levels.
---
In front of the underground vault, Chrollo and his team stood in the open, making no attempt to hide.
There were five of them. Chrollo stood in the center, flanked by Pakunoda and Kortopi, with Bonolenov and Franklin standing guard on the perimeter.
Pakunoda placed her hand on the shoulder of the vault manager.
Within moments, she extracted the combination from his memories. But when the heavy doors swung open, all five members frowned.
Empty.
"In his memory, only one person entered the vault recently—a young man wearing round glasses and flip-flops. After he left, the vault wasn't opened again," Pakunoda explained, relaying the images she had pulled from the manager's mind.
Chrollo's eyes lit up.
He had been looking for someone with a spatial storage ability for a long time but had never found one.
He hadn't expected the mafia to have such a rare talent on their payroll.
"Remember his face. He must have used his ability to clear out the entire vault. Find him," Chrollo ordered, turning his back on the empty room.
Just then, a loud boom echoed from above.
"Sounds like Phinks and the others have engaged the enemy upstairs," Pakunoda noted.
"The merchandise is gone. We should stick together. It's highly unlikely Ronin will show himself now, so let's withdraw," Chrollo analyzed calmly.
The situation had flipped. The Phantom Troupe was now out in the open, while Ronin—the one being hunted—was hidden in the shadows, holding the initiative. It wasn't a feeling Chrollo enjoyed.
"This doesn't feel like Ronin's usual style. Someone is strategizing for him," Chrollo deduced. "We need to find that person. If they keep assisting Ronin, killing him will become exponentially more difficult."
"Ronin seems to be traveling with a man and a woman. The man is unidentified, but the woman appears to be the late daughter of the Nostrade family," Pakunoda said, keeping pace with Chrollo.
She had previously scanned the memories of bystanders who had witnessed Ronin's group fighting the Shadow Beasts.
She recognized Neon only because they had captured Light Nostrade earlier to facilitate their operations in Moelding.
While digging through Light's memories, she had seen his daughter.
According to Light, Neon was just a girl with weird hobbies who liked fortune-telling.
But if Neon was truly useless, Ronin wouldn't be dragging her around.
She had to have some value that even her father didn't know about.
As for the boy, Pakunoda drew a blank.
---
When Ronin's shadow clone reached the first floor, he saw two fresh corpses in the lobby.
One was a young man with a mohawk, his body severed in two, a baseball bat still clutched in his dead hand. Blood pooled around him.
The other was a young woman with long, wavy red hair.
Her death had been uglier. Her body was riddled with dozens of puncture wounds, clearly made by a rapier.
These two were the assassins hired by the Ten Dons to handle the Phantom Troupe. Based on the evidence, the skill gap between them and the Spiders was massive.
Zeno and Silva stood on the second-floor landing, looking down at the three Troupe members in the lobby who were staring back up at them. Neither side moved immediately.
"Three on the first floor. Five underground. Probably three more on the perimeter. The maintenance guy died outside; they strung him up," Zeno reported. His En began to shrink, no longer covering the entire building.
"This job really is a bad deal," Silva muttered, cracking his knuckles, a slight frown on his face.
"Are you going to engage? Can you take them? I can hold one of them off for about two minutes," Ronin's shadow clone offered, stepping out of the shadows to join them.
If he could get the Zoldycks to commit, even if they only took out two members, it would be a huge win for Ronin.
