_____________

As multiple sheep went through my thought lane at once due to the bizarre scenario I was in. I quickly started looking for an opening.

And as you all might have guessed, this was an illusion. As far as this world was concerned, such illegal illusions were only at disposal of Envy Demon Clan branch species, Uchigger.

And they also possessed weird red eyes with black patterns but no magatama. Also they were non humans, fyi.

And judging from the illusion, it must be the work of an E- rank monster at least. As far as the skills of Sash is concerned, he only had Telepathy and Fireball.

He had Fireball skill because it was a cheap and standard spell of any budding mage or wizard. As for the Telepathy skill, it was due the habit of Sash to communicate mentally instead of using the mouth.

The previous seemed to be a very contrasting person. Well, let's set the illusion on fire. After all I had the mana tank in full form.

And so I did. And due to the high luck value, I ended up killing the nearby monsters. But I had used more than 50 percent of the mana I originally had.

Thus, after taking the loot as swiftly as I can, I ran towards the exit of the dungeon. And as it was within reach. I saw my surroundings shift.

So, I was targeted by two Uchiggers. Quite fortunately unfortunate, as they say. And what appeared in front was hideous beyond words. A human-sized, black furred taratect. An E- rank taratect at that.

It destroyed every last fantasy I ever had for a cute looking spider. And in my gloom filled rage, I used Telepathy to start mentally annoying it.

How? By sending a constant stream of shouts and screams straight to its head.

And it seems, that worked. Because the fangs that were on their way to my neck stopped just a few centimetres away.

So, I hurriedly used Fireball to scorch its face while moving away. Smart move, I must say.

And as I was moving away, the taratect was still frozen in place. So, making the best out of the situation, I bombarded it with Fireballs.

The body of the taratect was black to begin with, now it became scorched black. And when its HP was low, it seemed to trigger a common Last Stand Mode : Berserk.

And thus, the already horrible looking spider became even more so. Now, there was some good and bad news.

Good News: The HP bar of the taratect was depleted. Meaning, it would unconditionally die after Berserk state was over.

Also, it became unable to use illusions due to the Berserk state. That makes it two good news.

Bad News: It was now unaffected by Telepathy due the stat boost provided by Berserk state.

And I started running away in an instant. Why? Because that state provides a significant boost to stats. And I was basically still a mere G Rank Apprentice Mage.

There was no way in hell that I would be able to face off against a stat boosted E- Rank Monster. Not to mention my defence was shitty G- due to Strength and Stamina.

But as I ran some distance, reality threw a ruthless chop on my head. Now that I think about it, even my Agility was G-.

And thus, I halted my escape. Not because I wanted. I did it simply because the damn E- Rank Uchigger was straight in front of me.

So, I gambled with my life. For the first time, fyi. And certainly not because I am a machoist. No, it was just because the monster was leaping straight at me.

And then I used the basic power of every human : their brain. I hurled the Fireballs at the Uchigger while running towards the exit.

When I was a few centimetres away from it, the damn Uchigger finally caught up. Well, that E- Rank was certainly well deserved.

As it was about to grab hold of my neck with its front pincers, I hurled my strongest Fireball till date. At point blank range.

Even though that almost cost me my life. But still it was powerful enough to hurl me a distance away from the entrance of the dungeon.

As for the monster? It was long dead. And although I only my magic level went up, but still. After all, this was not an easy world where kill a monster and your stats increase.

No, it was not that simple. To build your stats, you have to sweat it out daily. And that is without factoring in the talent cap which is innate. Also the resources which come along a rich identity.

Hard work. Talent. Resources. These three are the primary pillars of success. Without them, one simply cannot be a hero at all. Or even if someone managed to become one, they wouldn't remain for long.

This was my internal monologue just before landing on the rocky patch beneath me. And just before landing on the ground, I used a Fireball spell to cushion my fall. Quite handy, isn't it.

Come to think of it, the previous Sash Mothing was a hard working person with a middle class background. So hard work and a meager amount of resources were in his hand already.

The only truly worrisome part was the talent. His talent for magic was the best while other departments were far worse. Then also, his magic talent was only average.

And due to meager resources, it could not be developed to its peak. Thus, he was destined to be only an extra in both parts of the novel.

How sad. Or not.

When I transmigrated and just started casting a Telepathy spell to find about my current surroundings and creatures, a system flickered for a moment in front of me.

And after getting out the whole ordeal. I was now sure that it wasn't an illusion. Because...

Welcome, Extra #888.

Life Expectancy: 6 Months.

Balance: 100 SP.

System Store : Unlocked. ]

This was Status, alongside Main Page. And the information shown on it couldn't be more grave.

So I had only 6 months left to spend in my new life. 'I refuse to accept this.' I thought to myself, unwilling. Then I opened the System Store.

And with the pitiful amount of Credits I had , I could only afford 1 day of extra life from the newly opened store. Truly disheartening.

There was an array of items available in it.

As far as I can remember, in the novel there were Normal, Rare, Epic, Legendary and Mythical Grade. These were Item Quality Classifications.

There were also ranks for each and every item. And it went like this from G, E, F, D, C, B, A, S, SS. These were Item Rank Classification.

Quality decides the rarity of the item. Whereas Rank decides the power of the weapon. But this is not absolute. At least not in this novel.

A G Rank Mythical Quality Item can have stats on par with A Rank Rare Quality or even S Rank Normal Quality Item. So, the quality acted as some sort of modifier aside from being a symbol of rarity.

Also Divine and Unique Grade Items were excluded from the Quality ranking because a Divine Grade Item was already a Relic of Gods and Unique Grade Items were one of a kind existence in the whole world.

And this was precisely why this world is different from Earth. Here magic and other fantastical powers were literal and no longer a fantasy.

Aside from that there was the Academy system. This was not unique to humans. All other non human species also had their own Academy systems. Except for Demons.

Inside the Human Region, the Hero academy is but a microcosm of the world. And this is the literal truth no hero can avoid while searching for their own path. Here, Heroes are trained to fight against Demons.

And as you all know, I was a student to be of The Central Hero Academy aka EDEN. But all that aside, how was I supposed to speed up my growth?

I was from a middle class family. And as far as I remember, I only got inside the EDEN by selling all the valuables of the family aside from the house.

It was simply rented away. That meant even more poverty. Thankfully, the previous owner of this body only had his uncle Mr Pawn.

The money left was enough to somehow make do with daily needs but anything else aside from that was simply impossible.

So, I decided to use my knowledge of the plot. This might attract some attention but I would only use the seemingly unnecessary plot points which were of no use in the second edition of the novel from the first edition.

I already had an outdated phone. Yep, no matter how futuristic this techie piece looked, it was outdated for the current world.

Because today was December 29, 2025 (literally). I checked the time, 1: 03 P.M. So, I received an enrollment mail from EDEN on 25 December.

The academic session for my batch would be starting on 10th April, 2026 because the On-Board Tests will be ending on 9th April,2026 after commencing on th February,2026.

Also, practical ability tests will start from 05 January 2026 till 18 January 2026. Here the to be cadets of the EDEN have to demonstrate their ability whether they are of any profession.

But first let's head home. I thought while pondering my next step in this perilous world about to be destroyed by a demon king or not.

While returning home, I phoned the Hero Association to dispatch heroes for handling some Ranked Villains whose approximate current location I knew from the first and second editions of the novel.

At first, the authorities were suspicious and about to hang the call until I used the excuse of prophecy and my mage class along with some information regarding the villain's motives and mode of operation.

These things were not known to the general public and even to unrelated heroes. Only someone who had some connections to them may know this.

I also named a few moles in the organisation and gave them my id alongside address. This was done after careful thinking.

The current Hero Association was not fully riddled with holes just yet. They can be trusted. Also, due my supposed prophecy skill, they will not contact me much aside from giving the rewards for my good deeds.

This was largely because most prophecy related skills were either unreliable or simply made the user powerless by making them pay a hefty price.

Thus, the Association will first verify my info and only after that is found to be correct, will they dispatch heroes to handle the task.

Same process for the soon-to-be internal purge. This was the standard procedure followed by the Association. Not to mention, I will gain some attention from the top ranking hero and head of the Hero Association, Mr Aurelius Octavius Minamoto Shigekuni aka Mr Temptest.

---

At 5:55 P.M

The reward money had arrived by the time I came back to my home. It was a clean 55 million Units. And although it was only a portion of the whole bounty I was to receive in future, it was more than enough for now. And it was clear what I had to do with it. 'May the souls of the captured bastards rest in hell.'

A wide smile appeared on my face. Although it was somewhat stiff, maybe because the real Zen was not used to smiling.

'With this much money, almost all of the problems will be solved.' I thought to myself in the midst of my cheerful mood.

And I'm going to make this money grow. Obviously. How can I do that ,you may ask?

Simple, by purchasing stock. It wasn't a hopeful wish, but a necessity. There are many other ways besides stock. But let's talk about the stocks for now.

First, the stock market. Dungeons were constantly popping up in the world, like frogs during rain. Simply uncontrollable.

I knew the names of guilds that would discover or conquer them. In the near future, obviously.

Guilds in this world were treated like companies, so one could buy stocks of public guilds from the Guild Stock market.

Although a private guild's stock can also be bought, it wasn't possible to do so via the Guild Stock market. That had to be done privately.

Today was December 29th, 2025. It's already been more than one hour since I transmigrated to this world.

Anyway, let's see what stocks I can buy.

I opened the computer in my room and searched 'The Guild Stock market.'

Maybe I forgot to mention but there is a PC in my room. Also not to make anyone jealous, but it looked a lot futuristic and sleek. At least when compared with the PCs on Earth, even the top brand ones. Just saying.

In just a few seconds, a page of the Guild Stock Market came.

[December 21st, 2025. Newly found guild, 'The Glow Guild' goes public.]

In reality, The Glow Guild was established by a senior EDEN Academy student who is now graduating from the Academy this year. With his friend, he founded The Glow Guild.

They would play an important role in the story, so I made sure to remember them. At least that was how it went in the second edition of the novel.

As for how I confirmed that it was the second edition of the novel and not the first one that I was in. Simple. Hero Association's Head was named Bert in the first edition of the novel. Interestingly, he was a demon faction spy which the original mc defeated.

So where were we.... Oh yes. The Glow Guild....

After establishing the guild, they conquered the Mezzanine Dungeon which is an A-rank dungeon.

And because they were new and they have already conquered an A rank dungeon, their stock prices rose by 1000%.

The same thing happened with Author's guild 'Remisè'. Which was formed around the same time as Glow Guild but only in the second edition. And it only boasted 3 B rank dungeon clearance.

Also, Author was the behind-the-scenes boss of this guild due to being enrolled in EDEN this year around. Meaning, I was in the same batch as Author and the main cast.

[December 30th, 2025. Guild, 'Aldor Wadia,' announces its plan to conquer S Rank dungeon, The Dungeon Of The Dead a.k.a The Non-Living Haunt.']

This incident would become the lowest point for the currently Ranked Guild no. 2 Aldor Wadia. It was also the decisive event that made Slacker become its leader in the near future, after his graduation in some years. This plan, which Slacker opposed, would bring their rank down to 7.

As for who these people were? Slacker was the logistics helper in the Author's team during the fight against Demon Invasion at the end of the novel and also the son of Helios Slacker, the head of Aldor Wadia.

I had two opportunities to make money with this incident. The first was before the plan was announced, and the second was before the plan failed. And I can conveniently put the blame on my non existent prophecy skill.

Without having to know much information, with just these two — though, these two were the only early financial incidents written down in the second edition of the book — I could make a fortune.

"The problem is... Which stock should I buy?" I mused. Well, let's buy both.Even though, after I bought both of them then I won't have money for some other plans.

Anyway, I think I should buy some other stocks too.

Without hesitation, I purchased Pack Master's stocks. With over 550,000 stocks, I was likely a majority shareholder of many guilds. For example, Remisè, Glow and Aldor Wadia among many others, soon to be famous guilds.

And the 55 Million Units went away in a woosh. Just as they had arrived, suddenly. But I still had 60 Million Units. All thanks to the next portion of the bounty given Hero Association near 10:16 P.M. May the souls of the captured bastards rest in hell.

So, I guess 660, 000 Stocks more for today. 1 stock at 90.9090909 Units. Just as before. The highest 1 stock can go was 100 Units under normal circumstances.

And at 10:21 PM, I was once again a proper pauper. Just like before. Good thing I had a bank account although it had almost nothing in it aside from the minimum amount of funds to keep it open.

What else to say other than that, as expected from the most efficient organisation of the Humans. At 10: 33, I received another 70 Million Units in my account. Making the total bounty amount equal to 185 Million. May the souls of the captured bastards rest in hell.

And another 115 Million Units at 10: 37. That made it 300 Million Units in total. I immediately converted the Units into SP. Although it was very hurtful to bleed this much. I still did it.

At 10: 40 PM, I exchanged it for 50 years of life. That left a bit of SP. And I invested all that in obtaining new skills and items.

What? Why didn't I use that SP to boost my Stats, Skills or Magic? Simple. It was not possible. I had to do that on my own.

So I bought a Permanent Talent Upgrade Card, a Permanent Super Mind Card, and a Mana Affinity Upgrade Card in items. That cost 2 Million SP.

And yes, they did what their name was supposed to tell. The Talent card enhanced my potential from B+ to A-.

The Super Mind Card gave a passive skill called Sharp Mind ,along with an Intelligence boost. The Mana Affinity Upgrade Card made my Mana Affinity A+. And the items that I bought were greyed out alongside other upgrades.

This means that they can't be bought from now onwards. And all upgrades can only be done with manual practice or getting items from outside world.

That aside, I bought [Flash Steps], [Shadow Walk], [Inventory],[Strengthen],[ Death Summon ], and [Elemental Manipulation] in skills. That cost me another 3 Million SP.

As for where I got the money at 11:23 P.M? Simple, by fleecing Hero Association. And tomorrow there will be 1 Billion Units more at last after all this.
