John was watching the card game being played by the men in there when he heard the commotion in the lower lounge.
"What's going on there?" the girl seated among the men asked, her voice bored but curious.
It was Kaila, Lucien's evil younger sister.
From the railing above, several guests leaned forward to look down.
"I'll go check," John said at once and walked away.
It was Kaila's birthday. And just as his boss had promised, he had given her his mansion to use as she liked. The only place she wasn't permitted on was the last floor.
The floor both he and Elise stayed on. That's why John was so sure Elise would be safe tonight.
Lucien has asked him to stay awake and watch the party to make sure no one dies in his mansion and nothing is destroyed. He has promised to give John the whole day the next day if everything goes according to his words.
John moved quickly down the stairs.
As he drew closer to the lounge, the voices became clearer.
