Chapter 43 - Chapter 43: Magic Circuits

"That's right," Erica explained. "Because most Heretic Gods bring calamity to the world, killing them is naturally considered justice."

"Demon Kings are justice, and gods are evil?" Whitebeard mused. "What a strange world."

"It is," Erica agreed. "But those who can kill Heretic Gods are incredibly rare. That is why these Demon Kings are honored within the mage community as 'Supreme Kings'—a title of the highest prestige and status."

She continued, "Right now, there are six Godslayers in the world. Most likely, they started by killing weaker gods, then used the Authorities they stole to hunt stronger ones. Every single one of them matters greatly to the world."

"And now," she concluded, "Lucas. The seventh Demon King."

Rin jumped in immediately. "Lucas! A Demon King... that sounds insanely powerful!"

"I don't really care about being a Demon King or not," Lucas replied. "The Authorities are decent, but they have usage limits. They're far less practical than magic."

Lucas had taken a moment to figure out his new Authorities. Overall, they were average. The power of each avatar could only be used once per day, which was obviously a huge downgrade compared to the full power of a true god.

Far less useful than his magic. Of course, some were good.

For example, the first avatar, 'Gale'.

If someone familiar with the user calls their name—even a false name or alias—as long as the caller is conscious of the user's existence, the user can instantly transport to their location via the wind.

However, the conditions were somewhat strict. He needed to know their face, they both needed to be in a place where the wind blew, and it worked best when the caller was in a crisis.

Regardless of distance, he could arrive instantly—even across worlds—and could take people near him along for the ride.

Then there was the eighth avatar, the Ram, which allowed resurrection after death.

The others, in Lucas's eyes, were just average.

"Lucas, you're really a rich man who doesn't know the hunger of the poor," Rin complained. "That's only because your magic itself is already so powerful. For me, any single Authority would be an incredible power."

"Uh, sorry," Lucas apologized. "But don't worry, Rin, you'll get stronger too."

The Holy Grail world's power level wasn't bad. If you looked at ancient times, that world had gods too. And those Heroic Spirits were no pushovers, especially Gilgamesh. The difference was that their world leaned more toward summoning systems.

"If you upgrade my magecraft, I'll forgive you," Rin teased.

"Alright, I'll research it first," Lucas agreed.

Lately, Lucas had been in a rush to increase his strength, constantly training his magic. He had so many spells of his own that he hadn't fully mastered; he hadn't had the mind to research other magics.

But he had been doing some research intermittently. For instance, the wing magic he learned from Happy, and the Super-class destruction magic—Crash—he learned from Gildarts.

He had integrated both into his own magic system. This just meant he had two more things to train.

So, his standards for magic had gotten a bit high. In his eyes, the only powerful things in the Holy Grail world were the Heroic Spirits; the Masters were basically small fry. Naturally, he hadn't been interested in their magecraft.

At first, he wasn't close with Rin, so he had no obligation to help. Now, after half a year of interaction, even if they were just netizens, they were familiar. Helping out was fine, and he liked all kinds of magic anyway.

*You spent 1000 points to purchase Magecraft Basics!*

*You spent 1000 points to purchase Magic Circuits!*

That amount of points was nothing to Lucas now.

"Yay! (^-^)V!!" Rin cheered. "God Lucas bought my magecraft!"

After knowing him for a while, she knew Lucas had a terrifying, anomalous talent for learning one thing and understanding three. It seemed there was nothing he couldn't learn. As long as Lucas bought a power, he would turn around and give back even stronger feedback.

Lucas carefully began to receive the information.

"Eh?"

Lucas's eyes lit up.

The magical energy of the Holy Grail world and the magic power of the Fairy Tail world were not all that different.

Magical energy was divided into the Greater Source, which filled the world, and the Lesser Source, which was generated inside living things.

The Greater Source was like the nearly inexhaustible magic power in the air of the Fairy Tail world. The Lesser Source was the magic container inside a mage's body.

The difference was that in the Fairy Tail world, as long as a mage had a magic container, they could autonomously and continuously draw magic from the air after their power was depleted.

The Holy Grail world was different. The magic source inside a human body didn't actively draw magic from the air. It required something called Magic Circuits.

Magic Circuits were conversion circuits formed inside a magus's body to draw mana from the outside world, creating magical energy the human could use to replenish their own supply.

They were organs that converted life force into magical energy, something like nerves. Without them, one couldn't use magecraft normally.

They had two main functions: generating magical energy, and connecting to the Magic Foundations carved into the world.

A magus used Magic Circuits to create magical energy, then used that energy to drive the Magic Foundation and execute magecraft.

Magic Circuits were innate; the number was decided at birth and wouldn't increase due to external factors. That was why magus families accumulated bloodlines over generations—to create descendants with bodies more suited for magecraft.

Lucas rubbed his chin. "Magic Circuits, huh? Looks interesting."
