I woke up to two large, dark eyes staring intently at mine. They were so close I could only distinguish the iris and the bridge of a nose.
At first, I thought it was Christy, but this girl was almost pale. My eyes flew wide. She scrambled back in fear, clutching something to her chest.
I rubbed my eyes to clear the blur. My phone. Why was she holding my phone?
Before I could speak, a voice rang out from the doorway. "Now, do not cause any trouble, Martha. Return it."
Wait! Matilda?
I whipped my head toward the door. She stood there in her maiden dress, offering a small, apologetic bow. "I am sorry about that."
Fear flared as I scanned the room. It hadn't changed since last night. This wasn't my apartment. Where were my Teletubby stickers? Where was Christy knocking on my door with morning coffee?
Above all...
I stared down at my dress. Why was I still wearing this instead of my office blazer?
