Chapter 19 - Being Human -> Sebastian's Next Step

Unable to check the information of his upgraded skill and being wary of the new being that popped out of nowhere, Frank asked the being what his identity was. The being replied:

[You.]

[I'm not just you, I am the best version of you.]

Frank stared at the figure of the being for a long time before he finally accepted that the being was actually him.

At first Frank didn't want to accept it but even though it had being a long time since he looked at his physique in the mirror, he saw a perfect copy of himself in the being.

Frank then replied:

[How can this be?]

The being replied:

[I would have loved to tell you but, wouldn't it be more fun figuring it out yourself]

With a hysterical laugh, the figure resembling Frank disappeared as it abruptly came.

A few moments before Frank had a talk with himself, Sebastian was scouting around the camp where Maru's Servants stayed.

As the new master of the castle he had to ensure things were in order and also had to prevent problems from happening in the "prince" absence.

Sebastian wondered how the prince was doing and how some of the prince officials few as they were doing in their scouting missions.

Sebastian had served many years as a skeleton knight but could only wonder what was preventing him from reaching the next level, he would have compared his level with his peers but there were none like him, it wasn't that there was no skeleton knight in the city of New Darkovia.

No there was many, the problem was Sebastian focused on learning about the old ways and studying the fragments of God Darkovia written in short letters even though they were in tatters.

Although he wasn't condemned for what he was doing, he was given caution concerning his decision to learn the old ways. Sebastian listened to the advice of the elders and chose to learn the old ways.

Sebastian had studied the old scrolls for decades before finally understanding them and for decades more before he refined his battle style to that which he learned from the old scrolls.

While learning this, Sebastian shut himself from the world while only using the ability to absorb cursed energy to keep himself alive. So when he returned to civilization he was confused with what he saw, he saw the way the Darkovians lived as flawed and tried to stop it. Ultimately it didn't end well for him but that was a long time ago and now he was one of Maru's officials a lowly skeleton knight but a strong one.

Sebastian resumed scouting the camp when he felt a odd sensation, it felt like a feeling was calling to him, Sebastian was alarmed by what was happening since skeletons do not feel anything, they didn't have what other soul beings called emotions so he was wondering how he was able to feel something.

He tried thinking about it rationally and thought that maybe his will was what was alarming him about something or worse yet that danger was close. So he started drifting around the camp as fast as he could while relying on his will to direct him to the source of danger.

The feeling or sensation was fleeting, it wasn't in a particular place for a long time, it stopped for sometime while other times it felt as if it was moving away at a speed no slower than the way vampire's perceived time.

Either way, Sebastian pressed on until he was rewarded when the feeling suddenly stopped a few meters ahead, drifting with an enthusiasm he never had before, Sebastian hurried to the source, when Sebastian arrived at the source he stretched his hand carefully outward into nothing.

At first Sebastian felt nothing, but Sebastian wasn't one to give up after a first attempt, he carefully activated the attribute he learned from the old scrolls while stretching his hand.

He was overjoyed because of what he experienced after the attribute reacted with the odd sensation.

Sebastian felt he could finally take the next step into becoming a death knight. While studying the old scrolls for years and using his attribute, Sebastian had developed an habit, he could easily remember anything, from the tiniest spark of light slowly consumed in the dark purplish night, to the large castle shelf that contained many books, the number of small particles moving around in the air and even the little spark he felt when his hand reached into the expanse of nothingness.

He recreated that feeling and amplified it using his attribute, he then moved into a safe room, one far away from the prying eyes of the servants and other officials stationed in the castle.

Sebastian continued amplifying the spark he had felt and discovered more information than ever before, giving all that he had read from the old scrolls meaning, a while passed and in a dark corner deep inside the castle in a tiny room that contained a energy shield that contained every aura that was seeping from Sebastian body, Sebastian was gradually absorbing knowledge which was slowly transforming him into a Death knight.

Sebastian body oozed a large amount of dark purplish aura with layers of black nothingness all around it, his bony hands although though cracked and was mere moments from shattering, it wasn't only his hands that was cracking.

Deep inside the armor he was wearing, his bones were cracking and the aura that was being contained inside the energy shield was slowly seeping inside his bones making him one with his attribute.

Sebastian learnt the attribute from the old scrolls so he had never felt like it was his own, before he was even able to use the power, something had to be given but at this moment, the power was finally becoming Sebastian's power.

Sebastian's body absorbed the rest of the aura and all of his body was constantly being surrounded by the aura. Sebastian tried a few skills he had learned from becoming a Death Knight and found himself asking this question:

[I have never felt so fulfilled.]

[Learning the old ways was the right choice, I have never felt so strong.]

[I wonder how that odd sensation got into the camp?]

[Was it one of the servants, I don't think so.]

[I would know if any of them was learning the old ways.]

[Moreover it isn't as if a piece of that knowledge would be lying somewhere around in the servant's library.]

[The only rational conclusion is that God Darkovia has observed the future and deemed me worthy to obtain his blessing for the fight to come.]

With that Sebastian walked out of the room and continued to scout the camp.
