Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: Obtaining the Production Jobs Alchemist and Apothecary

Lizzie withdrew her gaze, then turned and walked back toward the wagon, calling over her shoulder without looking back, "We leave in one hour!"

The members of Rock hurried to reply, their bodies relaxing slightly.

They had been fine when they did not know.

Now that they knew Lizzie was a magic caster capable of using 3rd-tier spells, they naturally felt a certain pressure.

"Captain Dosari, may I take a look at your injury?" Nfirea did not follow her back, instead asking with a hint of eagerness.

"Of course." Dosari froze for a moment, then nodded.

Off to the side,

Ler and Rand sat down with help, while Bask quickly opened his pack and took out three vials of blue recovery potion.

He handed them to the other Rock members.

As Dosari and the others gulped them down, painful looks twisted their faces, and Bask could only shrug helplessly.

Recovery potions were not nearly as effective as healing magic, but they could stabilize wounds and slowly restore health.

Only he still had his full combat strength left, so after handing out the potions, Bask walked back to the site of the fight.

There, he cut off the ears of the ten goblins and the two ogres they had killed, stuffing them into a leather pouch at his waist.

Those were proof of their monster kills and could be traded for money at the Adventurer Guild.

Back on the other side,

after carefully examining Dosari's lower leg, Nfirea's bright blue eyes were full of curiosity and thought.

"What is it?"

Aaron, standing nearby, noticed the change in his expression.

Dosari tensed up immediately. The condition of his leg would decide the fate of his adventuring career.

"Such a severe injury, and yet the skin and muscle have been restored completely, while the bone inside is still broken."

"So it really is different from how recovery potions heal."

Nfirea looked up at Aaron, speaking excitedly. Then he sprang to his feet and ran toward the wagon as he called out, "Wait here for me."

Healing magic and recovery potions, different?

A thoughtful look flashed across Aaron's face. In the game, there would not have been a difference—they both just restored HP. But in the real world, there clearly was.

On top of that,

he remembered that the recovery potions in this world were quite different from those in YGGDRASIL.

Soon,

Nfirea came running back with an armful of herbs.

Seeing this, Aaron instinctively glanced over at the wagon, where Lizzie had already sat back down, and saw that she did not seem to care.

Perhaps

this unexpected turn of events was not a bad thing in her eyes.

Aaron had heard from Nfirea that he had been studying recovery potions for several years but had never attempted to make one himself.

Thanks to Rock's injuries, this was an invaluable chance for Nfirea to practice.

He jogged over, set the stack of herbs down beside him, and picked out a few types to hold in his hand.

"Pharmacology."

He spoke in a low voice. A faint green energy appeared, enveloping the herbs in his palm.

Under the glow of magic, the herbs slowly began to break down into grains of powder.

Then,

he repeated the process with several other plants, turning each into powder, and skillfully mixed the powders together in precise proportions.

The entire process took about ten minutes.

"Aaron, could you give me a hand?" Nfirea looked up.

"Sure."

Aaron nodded at once.

He had already been considering the production jobs Apothecary and Alchemist. Now that the chance was here, there was no way he would turn it down.

Following Nfirea's instructions,

Aaron brought over the ceramic jar he had been using as a kettle.

"Pour water into it," Nfirea said, cupping the powder in both hands.

Aaron opened his waterskin and poured the contents into the jar. As he did so, Nfirea tipped all of his powder into the water.

"Alchemy." Nfirea picked up the jar and swirled it gently, a faint light spreading around his hands.

Under the watching eyes of Aaron and the Rock members, the liquid in the jar slowly turned into a murky, pale green solution.

"That's… a recovery potion!"

Dosari's eyes went wide. He sounded stunned.

He knew that aside from apothecaries, very few people ever saw a recovery potion being made.

"No, this isn't a recovery potion."

"This is just an alchemical solution with healing properties. Making a complete recovery potion is far more complicated."

Nfirea shook his head at Dosari's exclamation and answered very seriously,

"And given time, the solution in the jar will spoil. It'll not only become useless, but also slightly poisonous. It can only be made and used on the spot."

"Captain Dosari, go ahead and drink it."

"It'll ease your pain and has a small healing effect. It should help with your injury."

Nfirea held out the jar with a bright smile.

Dosari and the brothers sitting nearby both drew in a few sharp breaths, pained looks twisting their faces again.

If they had known, they would not have drunk the potions earlier.

After that,

Nfirea made more alchemical solution and handed it to the injured brothers as well.

By the end of it,

obvious fatigue showed on Nfirea's face. Making three batches of alchemical solution clearly took a toll on him.

"What's wrong, Aaron?" he asked, rolling up his sleeves to wipe the sweat from his forehead and noticing Aaron spacing out.

Right then,

Aaron's full attention was on his status panel.

The skills Pharmacology and Alchemy that Nfirea had just used had triggered a response on it.

Aaron had spent two skill points to learn both skills, and his status panel had changed again:
