"It's no use. I can't remember anything at all," he said, his face full of detached confusion. It was a very strange thing, but from the moment he woke up, there wasn't a single thing he remembered.
The room was quite big and well-kept, with a red carpet on the floor, a huge glass chandelier on the ceiling, large windows, and a wardrobe. The bed itself was massive, and the sheets were cloud-soft.
"This is quite luxurious. Whoever I am, I must be rich." He stood up with a sigh, his feet touching the warm carpet as he moved towards the large wall-mounted mirror and gazed at his reflection.
"White hair, green eyes, a lean frame…" he mused. The image he had of himself felt strange; he felt no connection to it, as if it wasn't him.
"By the way, is it normal to have white hair at this age?" He grabbed a lock of hair and pulled it. It was real.
"Let's calm down for a second. Could it be that I hit my head and forgot everything? But I don't seem to have any injuries. What could be the…?"
Before he could finish his thought, the large wooden door opened and a woman walked in carrying a tray. As she entered, she came face to face with him. He turned to face her, and their eyes met.
Crack.
The tray fell from her hands. The bowl carrying who-knows-what broke in two, the black substance spilling onto the carpet.
"Y-Young Master Leo. You—You are awake?" Tears flowed from her eyes as she fell to her knees, clasping her hands together and murmuring something while looking at the sky with closed eyes.
"Oh well, isn't this quite dramatic…" Now that he thought about it, even though he understood what the woman said, the language itself sounded very unfamiliar. Not only could he understand it, but he knew instinctively that he could speak it as well.
"So, Leo. That's my name."
"Young Master Leo, you need to sit down. I am going to call Her Highness right now." The woman—a decent-looking woman who appeared to be in her late thirties, wearing a black and white dress with her long hair kept in a bun that was now very disheveled—spoke as she approached Leo. She grabbed him by the wrist, pulling him back to the bed.
Leo was surprised by the strength of the woman, but in hindsight, it was he who was weak—very weak. He didn't realize it at first, but by now his muscles were aching, and he was unable to stay standing any longer.
"Just stay here, this will be a few breaths…" she said as she hurried outside, closing the door behind her.
Having no energy to move, Leo fell back onto the bed, arms spread as he stared at the chandelier.
"Just what is happening to me? Don't tell me it's one of those instances where the protagonist is transmigrated to another world and has a system…"
The moment the word "system" left his mouth, a blue system panel appeared in his vision.
[Name: Leo Draksien]
[Class: Tamer]
[Rank: E]
[Level: 10]
[Mana: 0/100]
[XP: 10/100]
[Skills: [System], [Training (C)]]
[Inventory: Empty]
[Trait: None]
[Monsters: None]
Leo looked at the system and scoffed in disgust. He absolutely hated the idea of this whole system-transmigration business.
"The fuck? Who thought this could happen in real life? I used to look down on losers who read stuff like this. Seems like they were right. Does this mean I died on Earth and this is another world?"
Even if that were true, he had no memories of his life on Earth, so it was difficult to feel sorry for his death there.
Just then, the door flew open again, this time with a loud bang. The maid had returned along with another woman. This one was strikingly beautiful, with white hair and green eyes just like his. She was about six feet tall, and her pressure made the atmosphere heavy as she spoke in a sharp voice.
"Leo, my son… You defeated the curse… That's what I expected from you." The woman came over and grabbed Leo by the arm, pulling him to his feet. She first checked his forehead temperature, then placed her cold hands on his stomach, pressing hard until bile rose in his throat. She was unusually strong for her delicate features.
"W-Wait…" Leo tried to protest, but he was ignored as the woman started looking all over his body, searching for something. When she was satisfied, she pulled him into a tight hug, crushing his body against hers.
"Welcome back, my son. Your mother, your people… we missed you."
Leo stood still, not wanting to disturb this seemingly emotional moment; the other woman was also shedding a tear at the door.
When the mother was done, she peeled him off herself and held his face up, grabbing his cheeks as she looked into his eyes.
"Now tell me. Who was it? Who was that wretched creature that cursed you? Tell me, and your mother will show them hell on earth. No one can mess with my family, my son. You have to tell me what happened that day."
By now, Leo was done being manhandled. He pushed the woman away and stepped back.
"I don't know what you are talking about. Can you back off for a bit? Who are you even…"
The room went still with those words. The woman's expression turned cold, her eyes squinting.
"Who am I? You forgot me? Your mother? The woman who birthed you?"
She grabbed Leo back by the arm and pulled him close, starting to examine him again.
"Is it because of that curse? I will not forgive them for this, never. They will beg for death…"
"S-So it was this type of curse. Oh gods, Young Master… do you not remember me either?"
"Shut up, Elsa. If he doesn't remember me, his own mother, how will he remember you, a mere maid? I told you not to get too familiar with him."
"I—I… A thousand apologies, Your Highness."
"Now get lost and bring Sera here. Hurry."
The women started speaking back and forth, but Leo's body was getting weaker by the minute.
"The fu—"
His vision turned black, and he fell unconscious into the woman's arms as she kept calling his name.
