Chapter 1 - chapter 1 : the nightmare starts

Daylight spilled through the curtains dancing in the mix .Birds chirped songs, and the sounds of cars filled the room. It was a wonderful day… for the rest of the world, that is.

Neo lay on his bed, staring at the lamp like it owed him money. It was Monday, a school day, but he didn't feel like going.

"It's been over a week since I lost my last relative. The only thing I remember is… I don't feel like doing anything. Grandpa, did you really have to go to the afterlife this fast? I'm just sixteen. how am I supposed to take care of myself?" he thought, tears leaking peacefully from his eyes.

He got up and stretched a bit. "I never knew anyone in my family other than my grandpa. He taught me everything and was every"

Unlocking the bathroom door, he turned on the shower. Steam began to fill the room as he bathed. "He did teach me odd stuff too, like how to charm ladies. But I heard in his prime he was the best. Guess in 2025 his skills are outdated… remember trying to use one of his lines? That got me a punch instead of a kiss… yeah, I suck at it too. He also taught me swordplay and would smack my head if I called a katana a sword, saying I'd lost tradition."

He came out of the bathroom, wrapped in a towel, and went to the kitchen to make cereal.

"Everything in here, he bought. This house whe bought it too, for a million… I'm just being optimistic, it could've cost more."

He took another bite. "Normally, as the only relative close to him, I'd get his stuff. But as far as I know, if I'm not in his will, I get absolutely nothing."

After a few bites, Neo got up, dropped the bowl in the sink, and walked to his messy room. Of course it's in a boy's nature.

"And talking about the will… the lawyer said today it will be shown to me. Let's see what I inherit from my grandpa. But now I have to worry about school. I haven't gone in a week. Now that I think about it… who's going to pay the fees? Yeah, I'm totally screwed." He looked absolutely defeated by his predicament.

He finished putting on his uniform and grabbed his phone. The only notifications were from his friends asking stupid nonsense, but honestly, that was refreshing to him.

"Ohh, my idiot friends… yeah, they know how to cheer me up, don't they?"

He departed for school, leaving the looming house in the background. On campus, he walked like he was going to die, even though he already felt dead inside.

He slumped into his seat probably the worst spot in the classroom.

"Hope she's not here yet." He placed his bag down, and before he could turn, a voice broke his monologue.

"So you finally decided to come back to school, did you now?" The voice came from Mahiru, the class representative and council announcer. No surprise there.

"It was family problems," Neo replied. But before he could continue

"Which family? Thought your dad went for the milk and never came back. And your mom well, I'm not sure you even had a mom. I'm sure you fell from heaven… no, people like you don't fall from heaven. Where did you come from, a corner?"

Forgot to mention she's also rude.

"Harsh. My grandpa died," he said, still looking out of it.

"Ughhh… you know what, I'll let you be. Just don't fail the semester. And… sorry for your grandpa." For a split second, she showed something she never does. "Now don't fail, or the blame will be on me."

The day dragged on. Hours felt longer than usual, but the final bell finally sounded. He didn't bother looking at anyone he just got up and left.

On the street, birds chirped, cars beeped, and people chatted, debating useless things.

When he reached the door of his house, a woman in a suit was waiting. It was the lawyer.

"Humm, you're here? I thought you said late hours," Neo said, still walking like he was being dragged by rope.

The lawyer looked at him. "You've really taken this death hard, but the will is here with me. Do you want me to tell you what it says, or would you prefer to read it yourself?" she asked stoically.

"Let's get inside first," Neo replied. Once they entered the house and sat down: "Now."

The lawyer read:

"So if this is being read, it probably means I have passed away, and now you're eager to know what I'm leaving to whom.

A one-billion-dollar mansion

Three billion in assets

And the name of the family

I leave it all to Neo Lucian Bernet.

And most importantly, this book of the Bernet family to him as well. May you have a good life, grandson."

Neo brows fall a bit to a frowm . "Humm, all mine. I should be happy, but I'd rather have him alive than his belongings. And it mentioned a book."

The lawyer pulled out a book from her bag. "Here's the book."

Neo held the book the lather was rough to the touch it was black with white writing on it

The writing reads the melovelent book

He opened the book and…
