Chapter 54 - Beast Rankings

CHAPTER 52

After the confrontation, the Aspirants all headed to their homeroom classes.

Now that Ray thought of it, he had never noticed Berg in the class before for some reason.

Unknown to him, due to the large amount of Aspirants this year, the authorities decided to split them in two batch.

One batch in one class, the second in the other class.

Berg and a few other higher graders were in the second batch while Ray's batch only had Kai and Trisha as the current strongest.

Even their physical training sessions were split between the two classes. After Ray's class, the second class consisting of Berg and a few others would be up next.

This was to not make classes and training so rowdy.

But today, things were going to change a bit because of the training the instructor planned for them later today.

But first, Homeroom class.

And as usual, Ray zoned out for the first half of the class until.

"... Today, we will be moving to another topic. I feel like we have spoke about the Abberants a lot so let's widen the scope of our world a bit more so you all understand what you are getting into." Said Sony as he scanned at the class.

The instructor was just a normal human not a meta. Hence the position he was given as the homeroom teacher for the supposed weaker class.

Turning towards the board behind him, actually, it was an understatement to call it a board.

It was more like a wide screen that could be controlled with the finger.

A touch screen board of some sorts.

"The Abberants aren't our only threats, we also have creatures known as…"

He moved his fingers a bit on the board and then boldly wrote a word.

"Beasts."

Ray's ears perked up as he instantly sat upright to listen. The topic intriguing him a bit.

Sony cleared his throat then continued;

"... What are beasts? Well, they are deadly creatures almost like the Abberants but where the latter has a lot of intelligence and could be considered humanoid, the beasts are just… like animals. Wild animals."

All the Aspirants could be seen paying rapt attention except for Trisha of course.

And… wait! Where was Kai?

Ray turned around seemingly not realising earlier that his roomie was nowhere to be seen.

It was just him and Van occupying the seat the trio usually sat on.

Scanning the class, Ray was unable to spot Kai anywhere.

'I hope he is safe.'

Choosing to shelve the worry aside for a moment so as to listen, he shifted properly as Sony continued.

"These beasts are usually found on another worlds or planets. Most are territorial and most times, a specific beast per world is recorded."

A hand shot up.

Sony nodded at the Aspirant.

— Have humanity ever encountered an attack with beasts? The same way we did with the Abberants?

Sony nodded to the question.

"Actually, we have and are still are. Just that the world leaders kept it under wraps and chose to focus more on the Abberants and their own feats."

Another hand shot up and after a go ahead, the student asked.

— why is that? Wouldn't it be better for the world to learn of this?

"Indeed. But it's more like the big four didn't want to make humanity all the more worried. We are facing a possible threat of extinction from the Abberants and are fighting amongst ourselves daily. Dropping this one on humanity will just make them crumble."

Ray tapped his fingers on the desk silently listening to everything that was being said.

— So why are you telling us now especially if the big four wanted to keep it under wraps?

"... That's because you all might encounter them despite whatever path you chose after your one year here."

— How so?

"See…" Sony uttered as he turned around to face the screen and then drew a giant circle on the board.

Then shading the inside with his finger, he stepped back to reveal the circle.

"This is called a gate."

Ray lifted an eyebrow as he leaned further in.

— What's a gate?

"I was getting there already." Sony frowned at who asked the question but quickly dismissed this as he got on to his teaching.

"... A gate is like a portal connecting two worlds."

'Reminds me of the portal that teleported us to the testing site that day.'

"And this gate of a thing, we have no idea how it works. We have no idea what causes one to appear."

— So what happens when a gate appears?

"If it does appear, a squad is usually dispensed to go in and clear the gate before it turns into a gate break."

— And what is a gate break?

Sony let out a tired sigh before replying;

"A gate break is when the beasts on the other side managed to gather enough power to enter our world through the gate that appears. Beasts would pour in accompanied by a boss class."

Finally, Ray lifted his hand.

"Please don't be a dumb annoying question."

Ignoring the comment, the Tribrid asked regardless;

"Mind telling us the different ranks of beasts and the types of gate there are? Whether we encounter one or not, we need to at least have the knowledge."

Sony brightened up a bit.

"Of course. I was already heading there."

Ray edged forward.

"... We have eight ranks of beasts known worldwide and I will be listing them from the lowest to the highest so pay attention." Sony said as he turned around and began writing on the screen for a few moments.

When he was done, he stepped aside and eight names could be seen listed on the bed.

"Firstly, we have the monster ranked beasts. These guys are the weakest of the weak. Trash tier and usually, a grade 2.7 meta can handle them.

But my advice for grade 1's is to run away as they might get killed by these guys."

'And you call them weak?'

"Next up, we have the awakened rank. The advanced rank, the king rank, the emperor rank, the legendary rank, the tyrant rank and finally, the demon rank type which is the highest rank a beast can be given."

"..."

A pause and silence followed before Sony continued;

"So far, we have six gate tiers. With tier one gates being the lowest and is usually filled with awakened type beasts and an advanced type beast.

So far, humanity has not encountered the tier 6 gate yet as it's said to be terribly strong."

A hand shot up again… Ray's.

"What's the highest beast rank humanity has ever encountered."

A pause.

Followed by a gulp from Sony who seemed to shudder a bit before he regained composure and decided to answer.

"The Tyrant rank. And I warn you… don't ever cross those guys' path. They are too dangerous as it took the strength of all Legacies together to put one down."

'For real? And it isn't even the strongest?!'
