CHAPTER 28
After exiting the room, Ray could be seen staring at the holographic display leading him to where he wanted to go.
After a few minutes of walking, he found himself walking into a small building that had a board hanging over it with the inscription 'Library'.
The library was what anybody could expect. But instead of a clerk staying at a reception and checking everybody, it was just filled with rows and rows of shelves filled with books.
Then tables and chairs could be seen scattered across the place with some students occupying some of the seats.
Calmly ignoring everybody else, he walked towards the history section and wasting no time, he quickly pulled up books he found interesting.
"As they always say; Knowledge is power and I intend to learn every single thing about this world. I never bothered doing that when I was younger, but I have decided to do so now." He muttered as he picked about four thick books and strolled over to an empty table.
Dropping the books on it, he stared at the empty spot on the table that had a small screen fitted on it.
A single button was being displayed with the word 'Noise cancellation.'
'Huh?'
Intrigued, Ray clicked on the button and immediately, the little little noise he could pick up on was gone.
Actually, the noises he had been hearing wasn't from inside the library, because for some reason, he was even unable to hear the sounds of books flipping from the other tables when he walked in.
Though some of the Aspirants there moved their lips, he was still unable to hear anything which made him think the button he had tapped on had something to do with it.
With a shrug, Ray turned to one of the books in front of him.
«Introduction to the world of Alcatraz»
Flip—!
He turned the page and began reading about the meteor crash of fifty years ago which some conspiracy theories talked about suspecting that it had something to do with the production of metas.
Flip—!
The next page spoke about the Abberants war and how the Legacies tried their hardest against the creatures pushing them all back.
Legacies were those who originally awakened their abilities. That was the term given to them but after some Legacies decided to share their abilities to the world, the term shifted.
It was now bestowed to those who chose to keep their abilities to themselves and share only to their families and nobody else.
'... Or those whose abilities had not been uncovered by the world yet. Unknown abilities.'
He made a mental note as he flipped to the next page while absorbing the information like a sponge.
He flipped past the meta grading system as he already knew about this.
Then he flipped a page talking about the Abberants.
Humanity didn't actually know where they came from as they came like a storm and swept humanity with it.
But what they knew was that these creatures were ape like and towering with immense technological advancement.
'... One spine Abberants are the lowest ranked ever seen. And the more these creatures were injured, the more they grew stronger and faster.'
Ray sifted to the next page with a frown on his face.
'The highest spined Abberant ever seen was a spine six and it brought about a whole destruction and even took the big four Legacies to send it away.'
"Huh?" Ray muttered as he kept reading further.
'... The only known way to defeat an Abberant was either to pierce their heart which was in a random spot or to sever their heads off.'
"But that is actually difficult to do. I mean to sever their heads off because to be able to do that, you need to be overwhelmingly powerful with your ability." Ray muttered as he stared at the book in front of him with his brows knitted.
'And to pierce their heart which was in a random location? For real? What kind of a bullshit is this? This is basically making these guys overpowered!' he thundered inwardly as his fingers balled into fists in an instant while his teeth grate back and forth.
"Fine then." He exhaled with his eyes gleaming dangerously.
"I just have to become much stronger than them all. Overwhelmingly strong enough to rip their heads off their necks." Ray gritted his teeth as he closed the book with a low thud.
Checking his wrist, he realised that he had just spent an hour in the library.
'That was quick.' he mused as he quickly got down to reading more books.
Determined to learn all there is. The different meta abilities, their strengths, how useful or useless they were.
He read and read until his head hurt and then he stopped.
'Nothing here spoke about the big four Legacies. I don't even know their abilities except that of the Blade family.'
He rubbed his temples as he glanced at his watch which was now displaying the time which was already 9pm.
"Shoot. Curfew is by 10." He said as he quickly shot out of his seat and arranged the books.
Quickly, he placed them neatly on the shelves he took them from.
The moment he was done with that, a ding went off in his head.
[+2 INT stat]
'Huh?' he paused as he blinked rapidly at the message being displayed in front of him.
To be sure, he pulled up his status tab.
To be specific, the intelligence stat.
[INT; 9]
And to his surprise, the stats was actually added causing him to smile softly.
"So reading for several hours can boost my intelligence stat eh? Good to know."
With that, he exited the library with his hands tucked in his pockets while he maintained the soft grin on his face.
'... Tomorrow, I begin my daily quest and aspire to complete it and rack up a lot of EXP so I can level up. This world better prepare for what I become.'
