Chapter 101 - Chapter 101: The Tenor

The next day, Ye Chen saw Li Sitong downstairs, looking shy.

Yesterday, Li Sitong's father had talked to her a lot.

Her father's attitude toward Ye Chen even surprised Li Sitong.

Since middle school, countless boys had tried to get close to her.

Whenever her father found out, he would use some means to make the other party transfer schools.

Those boys eventually disappeared from her side.

But this time, her father actually allowed her to date Ye Chen.

What left Li Sitong speechless the most was that her father even told her to invite Ye Chen over to their house when free.

She felt as if she no longer recognized her father... The two arrived at the opera house, and just as they were about to enter, they bumped into someone familiar.

Wu Bin had also brought a girl to the opera.

Although the girl was somewhat pretty, she was far inferior to Li Sitong.

Wu Bin also spotted Ye Chen and Li Sitong.

His face turned even gloomier.

So the thing Li Sitong said she had to do was come to the opera with Ye Chen.

He had clearly been the first to invite her.

It was heart-wrenching.

But seeing the girl beside him, Wu Bin's face flushed slightly.

Oh no—if Li Sitong saw him on a date with another girl, what would she think?

Wu Bin walked over awkwardly to explain.

"Si Tong, she's actually just an ordinary friend of mine."

Li Sitong looked at Wu Bin coldly. "You don't need to explain to me; what kind of friend she is has nothing to do with me."

Wu Bin: "..."

Li Sitong affectionately took Ye Chen's hand. "Ye Chen, let's go."

Watching Ye Chen and Li Sitong walk into the opera house hand in hand, Wu Bin felt awful.

After seeing Li Sitong, he glanced at the girl beside him.

Suddenly, for no reason, the girl looked ugly to him.

"Wu Bin, let's go in too."

"You go ahead; I'm not going."

Wu Bin felt a pang in his heart and turned to leave.

Inside the opera house, Li Sitong and Ye Chen sat in their seats.

Ye Chen had never listened to opera before.

One reason was the price; the other was that he couldn't appreciate it.

But possessing god-tier singing skills changed everything.

He gained an inexplicable understanding of classical songs.

What Ye Chen found Not used to was that popcorn and Coke weren't sold here.

After all, attending an opera is a serious matter; munching popcorn and sipping Coke is out of the question.

The opera began.

This time the performer was the renowned Italian soprano Oscarte.

She was a world-famous tenor, and her singing was indeed superb.

Soon Li Sitong was completely immersed in the ocean of music.

After listening for a while, Ye Chen lost interest.

This level was still a notch below his own.

Classical music had never been his favorite; after a short while, Ye Chen tuned out.

He tilted his head to look at Li Sitong beside him.

What musical could be as captivating as his Si Tong?

As he watched, the sight of Li Sitong's small hand reminded him of how it had felt when he held it yesterday.

His heart began to itch... Diagonally across from Ye Chen and Li Sitong sat a music-college student in his twenties.

He had originally asked out a girl he'd long had a crush on.

Knowing she loved musicals, he scrimped and saved to buy the tickets.

Unfortunately, she stood him up.

So the boy clutched two tickets, the seat beside him empty, drowning in sorrow.

But the instant he caught sight of Li Sitong, he fell in love with the girl.

Through a gap, he saw her profile.

Though the light was dim, in that moment he knew he had encountered love.

Although the singer sounded beautiful, he could no longer focus on the music.

Li Sitong's youthful face shifted between joy and sorrow with the melody.

Her eyes were so clear; the boy was utterly entranced.

Was there really such a beautiful, pure girl in this world?

The guy took out his phone and typed, "Bro, I'm in love."

Roommate: "Congrats! So you confessed to Xie Yunyun and succeeded—I'm happy for you, man."

"Who's Xie Yunyun? Doesn't matter. I fell for a girl at first sight; when the concert ends, I'll confess to her."

"..."

Roommate: "Good luck."

The guy put down his phone and stared blankly at Li Sitong's profile.

He was already imagining how to give Li Sitong a romantic wedding.

But suddenly he noticed something odd about the girl's expression.

Why was she so shy?

Unable to resist, he craned his head—and witnessed a heart-breaking scene.

He saw the girl, while listening to the musical, tightly holding another boy's hand.

Though her face was shy, she offered no resistance.

So she already had a Boyfriend.

"Why—why are all the pretty girls taken by other pigs? I won't accept this!"

By now the musical was nearing its end.

All the spectators, conquered by Oscarte's musical charm, kept applauding.

To thank the audience, Oscarte returned to the stage and prepared to sing "La Traviata" again.

Li Sitong whispered, "Such a pity—this piece is a duet for tenor and soprano. If only someone could accompany Oscarte, it would be perfect."

"Would you like to hear the full version?" Ye Chen's lips curved upward.

"Of course, but before a master like Oscarte, who would dare sing alongside her?"

Then the music sounded once more.

Oscarte's soaring voice filled the concert hall.

At the end of the first section, Oscarte paused.

Because this passage belonged to the tenor.

Unfortunately, there was no one to partner her.

The audience felt regretful.

But right then, Ye Chen stood up.

Seeing Ye Chen rise, Li Sitong's expression changed.

"Ye Chen, sit down—quickly!"

After all, in a concert hall, for an audience member to stand while the singer is performing is disrespectful.

Yet the next second, a soaring aria burst from Ye Chen's lips.

Instantly, the entire hall fell deathly silent.

Everyone turned toward the boy who was singing.

Even Oscarte, who moments ago had lamented the lack of a duet partner, stared in shock at the boy standing in the audience and singing with her.

"My god, this boy sings so well."

"That voice—it's simply heavenly."

"The boy looks so young; his voice is incredible."

Audience members couldn't help whispering.

Even Oscarte onstage excitedly stepped forward a few paces, gazing at the youth before her.

As a master musician, she felt more thrilled than anyone.

This passage is one of the most difficult high notes; very few can handle it.

Yet this boy delivered it flawlessly.

Oscarte couldn't help joining in with her high notes to accompany Ye Chen's performance.

At this moment, Li Sitong beside Ye Chen was completely stunned.

Ye Chen—how could he sing tenor?

How could he be so amazing?

He was simply too cool.

The guy who had been unwilling to accept defeat moments ago slumped limply into his seat.

He finally understood why that guy could have such a beautiful girlfriend.

He was outrageously outstanding!
