Lana was yawning quite a bit by the time they finished hashing out their plans and Blaine helped her to her bed. Kattie watched them.
"Wait," Lana tiredly said, "I have to meditate before I climb into bed."
"Every night?" Blaine asked.
She nodded, "it helps keep the nightmares away."
Blaine sat her on the edge of her bed and knelt down in front of her. "Are they bad?"
Lana took a deep breath. "Sometimes." She glanced over at Kattie as if to tell her to keep her mouth shut. Kattie seemed to get the hint.
"I've been meditating with her each night. It helps us both," Kattie offered.
"How long does it take? Can I join you?" He looked at his watch.
Kattie nodded, "You can join us. I'll walk you through it. I think she's too tired to lead the meditation tonight."
Blaine asked, "just tell me what to do."
Kattie came to Lana's side of the room. "Help her slide to the floor." Kattie sat down and crossed her legs opposite Lana. Blaine sat the same way between them but off to the side so the middle was empty. Kattie then led them through the chakra meditation. Somehow Lana stayed awake the whole time.
Blaine felt nice and relaxed after doing this and he thanked both girls for the honor of joining them for this. He then helped Lana into bed and covered her up. "Sleep well," he said.
Kattie said she would set her alarm for PT since there would be no alarm normally it being Saturday the next day.
Blaine nodded and quickly headed back to his room. He needed to get some sleep as well.
--------------------------------
As Blaine lay in bed thinking about the day,
Kyle: Thank you for helping her so much. She is such a nice person. I want her to succeed.
Blaine: She is. I wonder if we are getting too attached.
Kyle: NO! She deserves to be happy!
Blaine: and when we break her heart because we can't be with her?
Kyle: NO. She's MINE.
Blaine sighed: You may want Lana to be yours but you are signing her death sentence if you pursue her.
Kyle: Then we keep it secret!
Blaine: Please. Tell me exactly how we make sure it stays that way. The school literally has us assigned to her!
Kyle: Exactly. We can spend time with her under the guise of counseling her.
Blaine sighed again, feeling like he was going to fail at this once again. The truth was, he really liked her as well. He rolled over in his bed and went to sleep.
--------------------------
Alarms went off in the dorms and 26 students sat up in bed rubbing their eyes tiredly, a few tried to roll over and go back to sleep but decided better of it. They put on their PT gear and three of them carried mesh bags of gear outside where the teachers waited for them.
Lana explained to the teachers she bought gear and each teacher took a bag promising to bring the bag to each session. They deemed Sunday would be an off day.
Sergeant Rage chose to address everyone to explain why they suddenly had PT on Saturday.
"All of you are people who are struggling with fitness. Your fellow students Cadet Plantwell and Cadet Abel spent two hours in the infirmary treating those who were hazed as a result. They put together a plan to get you in shape. Now, if you don't want to participate and want to continue getting hazed, you are welcome to return to bed."
Nis waited to see if anyone wanted to go back to bed. No one moved. "You will have PT from Monday through Saturday. We will break into four groups of six. Each group will be lead by either one of us teachers or one of these two students. We teachers have already created lists and formed the teams. Each leader will march their team to the training field. There we will run through the program that was created so diligently. Any questions?"
One girl raised her hand. When she was acknowledged, "do the students who created this gain anything from it? From creating this program?"
The other sergeant stated, "yes. The knowledge that if they succeed, less people will require their healing."
Lana raised her hand, "I have one thing to add. Each leader will be keeping track of your progress. The most improved by the time we hit Phase 3 will get this 100-credit gift card." Lana held it up hoping the additional incentive would help.
The lists were randomly distributed. Lana's list included Kattie and Alto. She was happily surprised that her group included her friends:
Kattie Beastiary
Alto Funnel
Tammy Winters
Gkar Molari
Suzan Ivanova
Donavan Dover
Lana walked a bit further away from the gaggle of people then called the names on her list. The other PT leads did the same.
Because the groups were small, they lined up two by two. Once everyone was formed up, the PT leads marched their groups
On the grounds, Lana explained to all the groups what activities would be done. "While this isn't a competition, I want everyone to try to do better than they did the day before. Don't hold anything back. Remember it's a Saturday. You can go back to bed or take a nap once this is over."
She picked out an area and placed out cones, 2 sets of 4. "This first activity isn't just speed but a bit of agility as well. You start at the one cone. Run out to the next one and turn around. Run around this cone then go back out the next one then back here. Finally, out to the last one and back here. Two lines at once." Lana noticed the kits had whistles. "When I blow the whistle, it means go."
Once she noticed the person in front was ready, she blew the whistle and they took off running. Lana noticed one running a bit slow and decided to run along and offer encouragement. The cadet was bit round around the middle. It wasn't long before all 6 had gone through. She had them run it three times and documented the time each time. This documentation also helped her track progress of her program in addition to personal progress.
Next, Lana led them, through a combination of pushups, planks, flutter kicks, jumping jacks and squats, 10 of each. They started off slow and sped up gradually. She stopped when one or more could no longer keep up. They rested for a minute and started over. They did three sets.
Next, she gave everyone a jump rope. The kit had 8 so she had one as well. She never used a weighted jump rope before so she set it to 10. "Our number here is 30, rest a minute, then 30 more. Three sets."
She left their ropes on 0. "3, 2, 1, Begin."
They did their 30 jumps. Lana wasn't winded after her jumps. She set a timer for 1 minute for rest and dug out the wrist weights. She set the set to 10 as well. They did their next set of 30 and she again set the timer. She changed the weights to 20. The timer went off and they did their lest session.
"The last activity is the relay," Lana pulled out a relay baton. "I want you to station yourselves around the field. You will run to the person in front of you, pass on the baton, that person then runs to the next. Each person will run 3 segments."
Lana pointed to where she wanted her people. Once they were in position, she blew her whistle then ran the whole thing with them, encouraging them as they ran.
She called everyone in once they were done. There wasn't a drop of sweat on her. It looked like she could keep going. They waited until all four groups were done then marched them back to the dorms. Lana passed her gear bag to Kattie and asked the leaders to stay behind for a few minutes to see what they thought.
