Chapter 37 - 37: Run To Where?

When Simon perceived the familiar aura of divinity, he was shocked to the core.

He should not be perceiving such an aura.

This was the demon realm, and demons could not wield divinity.

Anything that possessed a divine aura was like poison to them, and if a demon was too weak to handle the aura, they would end up in pain while getting weakened at the same time.

Although it was a thousand years since his death, he was certain that no demon would want to have anything to do with a divine weapon or anything divine.

But when he saw the dagger in Zaglur's chest emitting a golden glow, the gears in his mind could not help but spin rapidly.

His ears which were far more better than an average human's ears picked up the conversation between Zaglur and the Velari.

Despite a Velari standing in front of him, he was still calm and he ignored the Velari while focusing on Zaglur.

He was more concerned about the presence of the divine weapon than the Velari radiating a murderous intent.

He couldn't do anything about the Velari, but he could at least obtain a little bit of information.

He listened to everything Zaglur and the Velari said, up to the point where Zaglur brought out the lantern which heavily suppressed the Velaris.

The lantern piqued Simon's curiousity because it was not a divine artifact, but its ability to erase every single shadow in a one kilometer radius made it seem like a divine artifact.

Simon was curious about its origins.

When Zaglur threw the silver bead and space cracked close to him, he was stunned because only Demi-Gods could shatter space.

They were the only ones that could shatter space, and for Zaglur to have an artifact that could perform the same feat meant that it was an extraordinary artifact.

Simon stared at the spatial crack with a strange light in his eyes. He completely ignored the writhing and screaming Velari a few meters before him.

"Hey kid."

Zaglur's voice drifted into his ears, and he looked at the Daegrin.

"Get out of here before I die. I never should have made a deal with these backstabbing bastards."

Simon furrowed his brows slightly as he looked at Zaglur, then he looked at the spatial crack.

"Why are you helping me escape?"

Zaglur chuckled. "Isn't it obvious? I can't be the only one that's on the losing end."

Simon could already guess why Zaglur was helping him to escape, and it seemed he was right.

'He doesn't want the Velaris to get the Devourer's blood essence from me because they betrayed him.'

Simon exhaled softly, then he got to his feet with a pained expression.

He glanced at his broken and twisted right arm. He was in so much pain with every slight movement he made, and it was only his mental fortitude that prevented him from screaming in pain.

'This kind of reminds me of my life as a hero. How I used to suffer grievous injuries from dangerous missions.'

Simon took one last glance at Zaglur before turning toward the spatial crack. But before he moved, Zaglur spoke.

"I can't help you with your arm, but I can increase your chances of survival so that you won't die so quickly."

Simon raised a brow, then he saw Zaglur remove the lone ring on his left hand.

Zaglur looked at the ring for a few seconds before he took it off and flicked it toward Simon.

Simon caught it with wide eyes, and he looked at Zaglur with a baffled expression.

"I call that ring the Miser's Ring. I don't know it's true name, but it has the ability to reduce how much demonic energy you use by half."

Simon's eyes widened in disbelief.

The ring could reduce his usage of demonic energy by half?

What sort of ring was this?

"I've severed my connection with the ring, so just drop your blood on it and it would be yours."

Simon looked at Zaglur with a suspicious expression, and Zaglur smiled despite blood dripping out of the corners of his mouth.

"Boy, I know you probably have trust issues after what your mother did to you, but I'm dying and the last thing I want is for those bastards to win over me at the end of the day. I'm honestly trying to help you stay alive so that these bastards can't sleep at night."

Simon shifted his gaze to the Miser's Ring, then after a few moments, he placed the ring on his bloodied right arm, and the ring emitted a black light.

He immediately felt a connection with the ring, and he felt no other thing.

'No trap?' Simon thought with a slight furrow of his brows.

"Good. Now, go, kid. Go, and make sure not to get caught by these bastards.

Simon glanced at Zaglur, then he glanced at the Miser's Ring.

"Thank you."

To the immense surprise of Zaglur, Simon thanked him, but Simon truly meant it.

Zaglur's parting gift was going to be very useful to him for a very long time.

"Go." Zaglur said after a while, and Simon nodded.

He turned and took two steps toward the spatial crack, but then he stopped and froze on the spot.

Standing right in front of the portal was a cloaked man in bandages and a mask.

The man was a Velari, but unlike the others, he didn't cover his face with the hood of his robe.

The Velari was sitting with his legs crossed and his eyes closed, and the moment Simon saw this Velari, his entire being froze on the spot.

This was out of utter disbelief and his body's instincts in front of an apex predator.

"Black- Black- Blackmoon. Blackmoon... run."

Zaglur stuttered in fear and with extremely wide eyes as he looked at the man in front of the spatial crack.

But Simon did not dare to move a single inch. In fact, his breathing subconsciously became extremely quiet.

'Where do you expect me to run to when there's a Demon Lord right in front of me?'
