Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Rhode: Captain, Why Didn’t You Parachute at That Time?

"You're just in time. I've been waiting for you!" Steve walked over with a bottle of wine, draping his arm around Tony's shoulder and winking at Pepper, who followed behind him.

Pepper seemed to understand the scene perfectly.

Because of their soulmate bond, she couldn't feel jealousy. Instead, she found it amusing.

She knew Tony had been three hours late and quietly pitied her boyfriend, Steve.

"Wait a minute, Captain. If I'm not mistaken, it's working hours, right?" Tony's face darkened.

Good man… you didn't call me here just to throw a party, did you?

"Isn't slacking off at work normal sometimes? We were just discussing your artificial intelligence—it's fascinating!

And then the protagonist arrived. Come, sit down and let's chat!" Steve handed Tony a hot sake and guided him to the private room, where the stewardesses were dancing.

"Haha, I'm not buying it!" Tony protested. "I can be late, but you can't throw a party while I'm waiting! And using my money! Despicable!"

Two minutes later, Tony was sitting on the sofa with a bottle of wine, next to the tipsy Rhode, both watching the model-turned-stewardess pole dance. Delicious.

"Tony, do you have any other AI chips? Give me one too, preferably with a female voice. That sounds exciting!" Steve was immune to alcohol and the charm of the stewardesses.

The music pulsed, the stewardesses twisted gracefully, showing off their figures, climbing and twirling.

Tony and Rhode simply admired—Steve, as always, led by example. He drank nothing, not even a sip.

"You'll give it to me later!" Steve smiled mysteriously, already planning to get his hands on Tony's personal inventions. Friends are meant to be cheated!

They chatted about World War II and the infamous plane crash. Rhode, holding a bottle of wine, drunkenly asked, "Captain, why didn't you parachute?"

Steve's expression turned melancholic, his voice heavy with emotion.

"The plane was on autopilot. If I hadn't controlled the emergency landing, the explosives aboard could have destroyed all of New York.

I didn't even consider parachuting. A soldier's duty is to protect his country. If sacrificing one life saves thousands, I'll do it."

Captain America's heroism was once again deeply ingrained in everyone's hearts.

Even the drunk Rhode stood, saluted, and felt genuine awe.

Tony's expression softened. "Then… why are you like this now?"

Steve sighed, lifting the bottle. "Before the final battle, Peggy and I promised a date after the war. But I'm seventy years late."

Everyone felt the weight of his words. Even Tony, brilliant and rebellious, felt sincere respect.

"The past will pass. We must look forward. Tony, I want to adapt to this new era. I want to find my soulmate and discover who killed my best friend Howard—your father. I hope we can start as friends." Steve extended his hand, his eyes firm.

Tony's eyes glistened. This is my father's good friend… He wiped away tears, stood, and shook Steve's hand vigorously.

"No problem, Captain. When you're on a mission, call me Tony. In private, just Steve. We're friends."

"My father left you 10% of Stark Industries as dividends. You'll get money quarterly. I've asked Boz to handle the paperwork. You deserve it." Steve smiled, unconcerned with money—Pepper would manage it.

"Don't be so polite. Okay, you two continue. I'm taking a break."

"Hundreds of millions every quarter!" Rhode exclaimed.

"What! You have so much money? Then I won't be polite!" Steve laughed.

"I'll treat you to dinner!" He closed the door, relieved. Acting tired was hard work.

Inside the cabin, Pepper typed at her laptop, legs crossed, her black strappy heels gleaming.

She looked up, smiling at Steve. "The equity dividend agreement will be ready soon."

"Keep it for me, Pepper. I love you and I'm willing to give everything for you!" Steve didn't care about the money—it would always be in their hands.

Bad women squander money. Good women manage and enjoy it!

"Husband!" Pepper's voice was filled with emotion. She didn't love wealth, but unconditional trust and love mattered most.

Steve hugged the radiant Pepper. "Is there a restroom nearby? I want to rest."

"Yeah," Pepper blushed, leading him to the guest room.

Everyone had their dreams, and each one was wonderful.

The next day, Afghanistan

Steve was awakened by Pepper, who was finishing her morning routine. "Honey, time to get up. We need to escort Tony to the arms exhibition today."

Her rosy face radiated vitality.

Looking in the mirror, Pepper felt beautiful. Women were like roses—daily care maintained their beauty.

Steve changed into his combat uniform, modeled after WWII with modifications reminiscent of Captain America II.

It offered protection, emphasized his strong physique, and inspired security at first glance.

Paired with sturdy rubber combat boots, he was ready—tall, strong, and heroic.
