Chapter 46 - Chapter 46: You Do Your Thing, I'll Make My Money

"Thank you, Kazumi, thank you for your help."

Matsumoto Sayuri stepped forward and took a can of lemon tea from the bag her friend was carrying.

"Don't rush, let me open it for you. I've also prepared a straw for you, so you don't smudge your lipstick."

Takenaka Kazumi stopped her from doing it and helped her get everything ready.

"Kazumi, about Toshihiko's matter, could you please..."

"Alright, don't keep bringing up things we've already said. I said I'd keep your secret, and I will. Everything will wait until you've dealt with it."

"I..."

"I'm not going to say anything more, I'm going outside." Takenaka Kazumi handed the bag to her friend, glanced at Kurosawa Hoshino and the others, nodded to them, and quickly left the room.

Matsumoto Sayuri stared at the closed door, feeling somewhat dejected. She lowered her head, bit down on the straw, and took a large gulp of lemon tea before turning to look at the others.

Just as she was about to speak, she noticed Ran and Sonoko, along with Conan, giving her strange looks.

"Hehe, there's another bottle of lemon tea. Do you want some?" Matsumoto Sayuri smiled, knowing exactly what they were thinking, but she didn't explain her earlier meaning.

However, she was very curious about Kurosawa Hoshino. This high school student wasn't gossipy at all; his expression hadn't changed at all.

Kurosawa Hoshino wasn't gossipy; he simply already knew, hence his nonchalant attitude.

"I'm not thirsty."

"Me neither."

The two girls refused.

"Alright then, I'll put it on the cabinet over there. Go get it if you want some."

Matsumoto Sayuri had just put the things away when the closed door opened again.

Matsumoto Sayuri: "..."

Matsumoto Sayuri felt her anger about to explode. These guys kept coming to her room.

However, all her dissatisfaction vanished when she saw the person enter, and she softly called out, "Junyan."

The man before her, dressed in a white suit, was undoubtedly the other protagonist of this wedding—the groom.

"Eh~"

Sonoko looked at him in surprise and said, "Aren't you the heir to the Takasugi Group, Takasugi Junyan? I didn't expect you to be the one marrying Matsumoto-sensei."

Takasugi Junyan was also taken aback when he saw Sonoko and greeted her with a smile, "Long time no see, Miss Sonoko."

"Are we close?" Ran asked in a low voice.

Sonoko shook her head and replied softly, "Not really, I only met him at a banquet. And he's not a biological son of the Takasugi family, he's an adopted son. I heard that everyone's opinion of him is rather so-so, that they think he can't carry the Takasugi family in the future."

Seeing that the main character had appeared, Kurosawa Hoshino knew that the time to earn Source Points had arrived, and now he just needed to wait for things to develop.

The next second.

Takasugi Toshihiko, as if he'd seen something displeasing, snatched the lemon tea from Matsumoto Sayuri's hand and said with displeasure, "Sayuri, how many times have I told you not to drink this kind of thing that has no nutritional value? It's bad for your health."

Matsumoto Sayuri was slightly taken aback, a hint of sadness flashing in her eyes, before forcing a smile and saying, "Because drinking this makes me feel better."

The next few minutes were spent chatting.

Kurosawa Hoshino and the others remained silent, waiting quietly on the sidelines.

Finally, Takasugi Toshihiko, as if finding an opportunity, used a topic to successfully turn his back on everyone, quickly returning.

It's a little different from the original story, but it's not a big deal, Kurosawa Hoshino thought to himself, before suddenly speaking, interrupting the two: "Mr. Takasugi, excuse me, but could you tell me what you put in your lemon tea just now?"

"Huh?" Takasugi Toshihiko was taken aback.

"Did you put something in it?" Conan frowned; he hadn't seen anything.

Ran and the others were also surprised.

Matsumoto Sayuri snapped out of her daze and smiled, "Kurosawa-kun, I think you might have seen wrong. Toshihiko didn't put anything in the lemon tea."

"Ran, Sonoko, go call for help." Kurosawa Hoshino didn't care about their melodramatic situation; right now, he was just a ruthless machine for earning Origin Points.

"Okay."

The two girls exchanged a glance, completely trusting Kurosawa Hoshino, and ran out together.

Takasugi Toshihiko's face was tense, his fists clenched tightly. He had thought the plan would go smoothly, but he hadn't expected to be seen.

"Kurosawa-kun," Matsumoto Sayuri said hurriedly, "I really didn't put anything in it. Can we just leave it at that?"

Kurosawa Hoshino glanced at her but didn't speak, his gaze fixed on the door.

There were already hurried footsteps outside, and many people were running over.

"Sayuri, are you alright?"

Matsumoto Kiyonaga rushed in first, hugged his daughter tightly, and looked her over carefully.

"Hoshino-kun, what happened? Ran said there's something going on outside," Inspector Megure asked as he followed in.

Within a short while, more than a dozen police officers entered the room.

"Here's the thing, I discovered that Mr. Takasugi put something in Mr. Matsumoto's lemon tea. I asked him about it, but he denied it. Please investigate." After Kurosawa Hoshino finished speaking, she silently retreated to the door and stood with Ran and the others who had rushed back.

Meanwhile, on his system panel, his source points increased by 1, bringing it to 8. He was just 12 cases away from reaching 20.

Seeing everyone staring at him, Takasugi Toshihiko knew his chance was gone and simply admitted to poisoning her.

Everyone was shocked and confused.

Why poison someone who was about to get married?

The rest is pretty much the same as the original story.

Takasugi Toshihiko was seeking revenge for his mother's death 20 years prior, wanting Matsumoto Kiyonaga to experience the pain of losing a loved one.

Twenty years ago, when Matsumoto Kiyonaga was chasing a criminal, the criminal hit Takasugi Toshihiko's mother with his car. Matsumoto Kiyonaga didn't notice and pushed Takasugi Toshihiko, who was trying to call for help, aside, causing his mother to die without timely assistance.

Just when everyone thought the matter was over, Takenaka Kazumi stepped forward and revealed another bombshell.

It turned out that 20 years ago, Takasugi Toshihiko and Matsumoto Sayuri knew each other as children, and they both considered each other their first love.

Matsumoto Sayuri knew that Takasugi Toshihiko's approach to her seven years ago was premeditated. Knowing the truth, she still chose to accept it, but she was in constant pain, not knowing how to gain Takasugi Toshihiko's forgiveness.

For a moment, the onlookers were speechless with shock. They just watched Takasugi Toshihiko and Matsumoto Sayuri staring blankly at each other, tears streaming down their faces, and everyone thought it was so melodramatic.

...

"Let's go."

Kurosawa Hoshino, having watched this drama, turned and walked out of the church.

"Hoshino, wait for me."

"Yeah, slow down."

Ran and Sonoko quickly caught up.

Mouri Kogoro and Conan hesitated for a moment, but chose to stay behind.

"Ran, what kind of mess is this?" Sonoko walked while grabbing her hair with both hands, her expression quite conflicted.

"Hoshino, do you think the wedding will still go on?" Ran didn't know either, so she could only ask Kurosawa Hoshino, the pillar of support.

"Attempted murder, how can you get married? Of course, you have to go to jail first."

Kurosawa Hoshino looked at them amusedly.

As for the marriage mentioned in the afterword of the original work, which is three years later, that's probably going to be a long wait. Let's just let Takasugi Toshihiko serve thirty years, which is equivalent to half a year in prison.
