Chapter 203 - Reducing threats

The battlefield was an inferno of screams and clashing metal. But amidst the chaos, Scarlet moved like a goddess of war, her figure enveloped in flames that danced with homicidal fury. In her hands, the Sword of True Darkness had adopted the form of a greatsword, its black blade gleaming with a violet radiance that seemed to absorb the sunlight itself.

Every movement of Scarlet's was lethal. The sword cut through the air and, as it did, found flesh and bone. The enemies that had once been difficult to handle, those nightmare creatures that had cornered her for weeks, were now nothing more than simple beasts ready for execution. Their bodies disintegrated upon contact with the edge, the sword's darkness devouring their essence before they could even scream.

"This is incredible!" Scarlet exclaimed, feeling the power flow through her. "I've never felt anything like this!"

As she cut, the sword grew stronger. She could feel it in every fiber of her being; the blade absorbed the darkness of the fallen creatures and channeled it into her. Her flames became more ferocious, her skin more resistant, her reflexes sharper. It was as if each death brought her one step closer to perfection.

A great devil emerged from the darkness before her. Its form was imposing, with three heads that spat fire and claws that could split the earth. At another time, Scarlet would have hesitated, would have needed her companions' help to bring down such a beast.

But now, she only smiled.

"Come here, monster," she murmured, and launched herself forward.

The great devil roared and attacked with its claws, but Scarlet moved like the wind, her body dodging each blow with supernatural grace. The sword in her hands shone with intensity, and when the moment came, she cut.

There was no resistance.

The sword's will pierced through the great devil's will like butter. The black blade severed its torso, and the creature fell in two halves that disintegrated into a cloud of shadows. The essence absorbed by the sword made Scarlet feel a comforting warmth in her chest.

"Who else wants to try?" she asked, her voice full of challenge.

But Scarlet wasn't the only one.

Sebastian moved with an elegance that concealed his ferocity. His parasite sword had adopted the form of a long, thin blade, perfect for precise thrusts. Every movement of his was a study in efficiency; a thrust here, a cut there, and the creatures fell like dominoes.

"Lord Dark, this power is truly extraordinary," he murmured, his voice serene even amidst the battle. "I wonder what else it's capable of."

Frost, for his part, had transformed his sword into an ice lance that seemed to be alive. With each attack, secondary lances sprouted from the main weapon, freezing the nightmare creatures en masse. The cold emanating from his body was so intense that even the shadows seemed to retreat in his presence.

"This is great!" Frost shouted, his cold personality contrasting with his excitement. "I can feel my power multiplied!"

Lyra fought with angelic grace, her parasite sword shining with a golden light that contrasted with the darkness of the battlefield. Each of her cuts left a trail of light, and the nightmare creatures writhed upon contact, as if the purity of her power was poison to them.

"For Lord Dark," she whispered as she fought, her eyes shining with devotion. "For Shadow Garden. For all those who trust in us."

Kael moved like the wind, literally. His parasite sword had transformed into a series of curved blades that spun around him, creating a storm of cuts that tore apart everything in its path. His speed was so incredible that the creatures fell before they could even see him coming.

"Ha!" Kael laughed, his voice barely audible over the whistle of the wind. "Now this is a battle worth remembering!"

And so, each of Shadow Garden's transcendents became an unstoppable force. Where before Jerom's army had advanced like a tide of darkness, now it retreated like a wave breaking against a cliff.

The nightmare creatures, once fearsome enemies, were now easy prey. The enemy ranks crumbled, and the confidence they once had had transformed into panic.

Scarlet, from her position, watched her companions' advance. She saw them move with a synchronicity that could only come from months of training and shared battles. She saw how Sebastian held the line, how Frost created ice walls to contain the enemy, how Lyra illuminated the path, and how Kael cut without mercy.

She smiled with pride.

"Shadow Garden!" she shouted, her voice resonating across the entire battlefield. "Don't stop! Show these invaders what it means to face Lord Dark's subjects!"

The transcendents roared in response, their swords shining with renewed vigor. The invading army, which had arrived with the arrogance of those who believe victory is assured, was now reduced to a shadow of what it once was.

Within minutes, Shadow Garden's advance was overwhelming. The nightmare creatures fell by dozens, then by hundreds, and finally by thousands. The earth was covered with shadows that slowly faded, as if the battlefield itself was being purified.

Scarlet raised her sword, watching how the black blade absorbed the residual darkness of the fallen. She felt the power course through her veins, and she knew it hadn't been in vain.

"Lord Dark," she murmured, looking toward the center of the battle where Uriel faced Jerom. "We are fulfilling our duty. I hope you are fulfilling yours as well."

On the other side of the field, the other transcendents continued their advance. The battle, which had lasted a month, was finally coming to an end. The invading army, once unstoppable, was now a shadow of what it had been.

And at the center of it all, Uriel fought against Jerom, his darkness clashing against his enemy's darkness in a combat that would decide everyone's fate.

---

The battle raged on, but the tide had turned. Where once the invaders had swarmed like locusts, now they fell like wheat before a scythe. Shadow Garden's transcendents carved through the enemy ranks, their parasite swords gleaming with the power of true darkness.

A massive nightmare creature, a towering beast with countless eyes and mouths, lunged toward the group. Its form was grotesque, a mass of flesh and shadow that seemed to defy all natural laws. Lyra stepped forward, her golden blade raised.

"Begone, abomination," she intoned, and swung.

The blade cut through the creature's central eye, and the beast let out a shriek that shook the very foundations of the earth. The golden light of the sword spread through its body like a virus, purifying the darkness that held it together. Within moments, the creature collapsed, dissolving into motes of light that drifted away on the wind.

"Good work, Lyra!" Frost called out, encasing a group of smaller creatures in a block of ice before shattering them with a single blow.

"You're not so bad yourself," she replied with a smile.

Nearby, Kael was a whirlwind of destruction. His curved blades spun around him in a deadly dance, cutting through everything that came near. The wind howled at his command, lifting creatures into the air and tossing them against one another. It was chaotic, brutal, and utterly effective.

Meanwhile, Sebastian was methodical. Each of his thrusts was measured, precise, lethal. He moved like a ghost through the battlefield, his long sword finding the vital points of every creature he faced. For every beast that fell to Frost's ice or Kael's winds, another fell to Sebastian's blade.

"This is too easy," Kael said, appearing beside Sebastian. "They're running scared."

"Don't get cocky," Sebastian warned. "The battle isn't over until Lord Dark defeats Jerom."

Kael glanced toward the center of the battlefield, where the clash of darknesses was visible even from a distance.

"He'll win," Kael said with absolute certainty. "He always does."

Scarlet, cutting down a group of smaller creatures, overheard their conversation. She smiled.

"Kael's right," she said, her voice carrying over the din of battle. "Lord Dark has never let us down. And he won't start now."

A sudden roar drew their attention. A large demon, its form even more imposing than the one Scarlet had faced earlier, charged toward them. Its eyes burned with hatred, its claws carving furrows in the ground with each step.

"Big one," Frost observed.

"Let me handle it," Sebastian said, stepping forward.

But before he could move, a blur of fire and darkness shot past him. Scarlet was already on the move, her greatsword raised, her flames roaring in anticipation.

"Sorry, Sebastian," she called back over her shoulder. "I've got dibs on this one."

The demon roared and swung its massive claw, but Scarlet ducked under it with fluid grace. Her sword came up, and the blade cut through the demon's arm like a hot knife through butter. The demon screamed, a sound of pure agony, and staggered back.

"Not so tough now, are you?" Scarlet taunted, pressing her advantage.

She moved like a dancer, each step a pirouette, each strike a crescendo. Her flames intensified, the heat from her body causing the air to shimmer. The demon tried to counter, but its movements were sluggish, its reactions slow.

Finally, with a cry that echoed across the battlefield, Scarlet brought her sword down in a diagonal arc that severed the demon's torso. The beast's roar was cut short, and its body collapsed, dissolving into darkness that the sword eagerly consumed.

Scarlet straightened, her chest heaving, but a triumphant smile on her face.

"One down," she said. "How many more?"

A quick glance at the battlefield showed that the invaders were in full retreat. Those that remained were being cut down in droves by the other transcendents. The tide had turned so decisively that victory was no longer in doubt.

"Looks like that's all of them," Frost said, his voice carrying a hint of surprise.

"Did we actually win?" Lyra asked, her eyes wide.

"Not yet," Sebastian said, his gaze fixed on the center of the battlefield. "But almost. Everything depends on Lord Dark now."

The group fell silent, their eyes turning toward the distant clash of shadows. Though the sounds of battle around them had diminished, the struggle at the center raged on. Two figures, both shrouded in darkness, moved with supernatural speed and ferocity.
