Chapter 5 - Depression

Liu Bing rushed forward, pointing at Chen Wanli and crying out for justice: "Director, call the police! He... he almost killed me! And he extorted a million yuan from Li Tianyang!"

"..." Zhang Debiao's mouth twitched, seeing Liu Bing's pathetic state.

Song Siming scrutinized Chen Wanli. He couldn't care less who Chen Wanli had beaten or what he had done! All he wanted to know was if his daughter could be saved! Leaving everything else aside, Chen Wanli remained unfazed, even surrounded like this. His composure was remarkable.

Song Siming asked, "Was it you who discovered my daughter was still alive in the morgue?"

"No, to be precise, I discovered your daughter could still be saved, and I saved her!" Chen Wanli lifted his chin defiantly.

"Nonsense! You're a madman! Did you attend medical school? Do you have a practicing physician's license?" Zhang Debiao immediately retorted.

"No." Chen Wanli scoffed, clearly having guessed the reason for their presence. "But I was the one who saved her. You attended medical school and have a license—why don't you go save her now instead of standing here?"

Zhang Debiao's heart sank with a premonition.

Song Siming's eyelids flickered. "Go and save my daughter now, prove your words, and I can let bygones be bygones regarding what happened before!"

Chen Wanli raised an eyebrow, displeased. "No. I'm not in the mood! If it weren't for me, your daughter would have been dead half an hour ago. You have no right to speak to me like that!"

Song Siming clenched his fists. Given his status today, no one dared to speak to him in such a manner. But soon, his resolve deflated. His daughter's life hung by a thread; he had to treat a dead horse as if it were still alive.

"What will it take for you to be in the mood to treat my daughter? Name your terms. As long as you can cure her, I will not utter a single word of objection!"

Chen Wanli nodded. "Now that's the attitude for asking for help!" His gaze swept over Zhang Debiao and Liu Bing. He said coldly, "I demand my wife's reputation be cleared. Whoever is responsible for the mess, they bear the blame!"

Tang Yanran's emotions were complex. She was touched that Chen Wanli still wanted to protect her at this moment, yet also terrified. It seemed even the national master physician Li Jiang couldn't cure Song Jiaojiao. What hope did Chen Wanli have of curing her?

Liu Bing was utterly dumbfounded; events had completely surpassed his imagination. He had expected Song Siming to deliver a harsh slap to Chen Wanli, not respectfully invite him to treat his daughter! He furtively glanced at Zhang Debiao, whose face was beet red, and a wave of panic washed over him.

Song Siming, being a shrewd businessman, immediately grasped most of the situation. "Director Zhang, if you don't tell the truth now, I'll bring in the disciplinary committee to investigate!"

"..." Cold sweat instantly drenched Zhang Debiao. He might rule the roost in the hospital, but he couldn't cover things up once the disciplinary committee got involved. After a brief hesitation, Zhang Debiao recounted the events. He couldn't help but emphasize, "Indeed, Miss Song had no breath or heartbeat this morning..."

Song Siming waved his hand dismissively. "We'll settle our score separately. Now, who do you owe an apology to?"

"Y-yes, I'm sorry! I was momentarily deluded!" Zhang Debiao turned to Chen Wanli and stammered.

Chen Wanli pursed his lips. "Hmm?"

Zhang Debiao immediately turned to Tang Yanran, apologizing profusely. Seeing this, Liu Bing also panicked, spewing apologies at Tang Yanran.

Tang Yanran remained silent. Both men looked at Chen Wanli, pleading for mercy.

Chen Wanli smirked playfully. "If apologies were enough, what would we need the police for? Right, Mr. Song?"

Song Siming quickly said, "I will definitely give you a full account regarding their violations of law and discipline! Please, go and treat my daughter first!" Chen Wanli nodded.

Tang Yanran grew increasingly anxious. The Chen Wanli before her was both strange and deeply worrying! She subtly shook her head and grasped Chen Wanli's arm.

Chen Wanli grinned, and, taking her hand, squeezed it reassuringly. "Don't worry. I've got this!"

Tang Yanran felt the warmth of Chen Wanli's hand. A strange flutter of panic arose within her, and the words she was about to speak died on her lips.

Chen Wanli followed Song Siming towards the emergency room. Zhang Debiao and Liu Bing wore grim expressions.

"Brother-in-law, what now?" Liu Bing asked, his face a picture of distress.

Zhang Debiao spat. "What? You think a madman can cure illnesses now too?"

"Ah, yes. If he can't cure her, and Mr. Song loses his temper, those two will be in even worse trouble!" Liu Bing nodded repeatedly.

The two also hurried towards the emergency room.

Inside the emergency room, as soon as Chen Wanli entered, his hands moved to Song Jiaojiao's chest. He calmly instructed, "Go get me a packet of acupuncture needles!"

A flicker of displeasure crossed Song Siming's face. That scoundrel! If he can't cure her, I'll chop off his hands! The doctors present all felt utterly bewildered. A madman was playing doctor, and performing acupuncture? It was simply laughable! Even a nonsensical comedy wouldn't dare portray such an outrageous scene.

Li Jiang murmured, "Acupuncture for Soul Detachment Syndrome? This..."

Chen Wanli grinned. "Soul Detachment Syndrome? Old man, you're mistaken. This is Soul Loss Syndrome!"

"Soul Loss Syndrome?"

As they spoke, the young nurse brought the acupuncture needles. Chen Wanli offered no explanation. He took the needles and skillfully inserted them into Song Jiaojiao's Baihui, Sishencong, and Shangxing acupoints on her head. As he inserted the needles, he used his Qi to lock onto Song Jiaojiao's vital soul, guiding her dispersed spirit back into place.

The instant Chen Wanli withdrew the acupuncture needles, Song Jiaojiao's heartbeat began to normalize, and her breathing stabilized.

"It's working!" "She's breathing!" "She's stable!"

Moments later, Song Jiaojiao slowly stirred awake. She looked blankly at the people around her, tears tracing paths down her cheeks. All the doctors present stared at Chen Wanli in utter astonishment.

Li Jiang scratched his head, utterly perplexed. Just a few ordinary needles, and he actually brought her back?

Song Siming's eyes welled up. He quickly rubbed his face to regain his composure.

Tang Yanran wore a look of utter surprise. Seeing Chen Wanli's calm demeanor, she felt a momentary daze. Was this still the useless madman she knew?

"Her life has been recovered," Chen Wanli spoke with authority, "but she suffers from constrained Liver Qi, disharmony of the Spleen and Stomach, and stagnant Qi and Blood, which has led to a severe case of melancholic depression (Yuzheng). She will require careful recuperation!"

Li Jiang nodded. "Depression, in Traditional Chinese Medicine, is indeed diagnosed as Yuzheng (Melancholy Syndrome). However, it is exceptionally complex to treat!"

Song Siming asked, "Young Divine Physician, do you have a solution?"

"I do!" Chen Wanli raised an eyebrow. He could cure it, but it would be troublesome.

Song Siming was a businessman. To him, academic qualifications or certificates were irrelevant. A black cat or a white cat—whichever catches mice is a good cat! Moreover, he had heard and seen many famous unconventional doctors throughout his life. Chen Wanli had already earned his trust with his abilities. Upon hearing Chen Wanli say he could cure it, he had no doubts whatsoever. He immediately said, "Name any condition you wish!"

"Acupuncture twice a week, combined with herbal decoctions. Yuzheng, caused by emotional stagnation, can only be slowly adjusted and healed!" Chen Wanli stated.

"Good, good! After Jiaojiao is discharged, twice a week, I'll send someone to pick you up!" Song Siming said, fearing Chen Wanli might refuse.

Chen Wanli was about to nod when Tang Yanran gave him a sharp pinch on his waist. This time, curing Song Jiaojiao by sheer chance was already a monumental stroke of luck! And now he wants to treat Song Jiaojiao's depression too! Severe depression isn't that easy to cure! So many wealthy and famous people, with no lack of money, fame, or renowned doctors, have been defeated by this illness...

Chen Wanli could only purse his lips and say, "We'll see!"

Song Siming, however, assumed Chen Wanli was waiting for his previous promise to be fulfilled, or was choosing his words. He immediately instructed the bodyguards outside: "Take both Zhang Debiao and Liu Bing to the disciplinary committee! Tell them I, Song Siming, am formally reporting them for violating laws and regulations!"

"..." Outside, Zhang Debiao and Liu Bing collapsed directly onto the ground.

"Ahem, ahem, young brother, if there's an opportunity, I'd like to consult with you!" Li Jiang said with an embarrassed smile.

"Indeed, let's learn from each other when the chance arises!" Chen Wanli smiled faintly.

Li Jiang nodded repeatedly, his impression of Chen Wanli growing ever more favorable. Unassuming yet capable – he himself couldn't have achieved such a demeanor at Chen Wanli's age!

Tang Yanran couldn't bear to watch. "Learn from each other" with Li Jiang? Li Jiang was a national master of medicine! Chen Wanli, relying on a few self-taught medical books, was just digging his own grave by boasting so much.

She pulled Chen Wanli and started walking out.
