Chapter 14 - Start of Summer Camp

~Brief Recap~

Izuku and Ruka were invited to I-Island for the I-Expo as All Might's guests. All Might was invited by Melissa Shield to surprise her father David Shield and he was allowed to bring anyone he wanted. While they were being shown around by Melissa, Izuku and Ruka found out that all of their classmates were also on the island for the expo as well. Later that night there was a pre-opening reception for the expo. Melissa, Izuku, Ruka, and several of their classmates were going to go to the party, but then the island was taken over by villains. Their goal was to capture David Shield and steal his invention: a device that amplifies someone's quirk without negative repercussions to the body or brain. Through teamwork, they all liberated the island from the villains and saved David from the villains. Over the next few days, everyone enjoyed themselves at the expo with no villain interference.

~Back to Story~

It was Friday, August 2 and it had been a couple days since Izuku and Ruka returned from I-Island with All Might. Class 1-A and Class 1-B were gathered at U.A. High to go to the summer training camp. Ruka approached Izuku, her hands folded behind her back as she leaned in towards him.

"I can't wait for summer training camp! I wonder how much stronger I'm gonna get after it's over." Ruka said, beaming at Izuku.

"Yeah me too." Izuku said as he smiled at Ruka. Then something caught his attention. His eyes traveled to the base of her neck on the right side. The hickey he left behind when they made love was still there. It had faded a little but it was still noticeable. Izuku's face suddenly turned a bright shade of red.

"Why is your face getting red all of the sudden?" Ruka asked, leaning in even closer. Izuku took a couple steps away from Ruka.

"I'm just a little hot." Izuku responded as Ruka leaned in even closer. She had seen right through his lie.

"You shouldn't be getting flustered over seeing the hickey you gave me. After all, you're the one who wanted people to know I was taken." Ruka whispered in Izuku's ear which sent pleasurable shivers down his spine. Uraraka, who was standing nearby, saw Izuku's and Ruka's interaction. She stared at them, giving Ruka a jealous glare which she noticed. Ruka ignored her glare and approached Uraraka with a friendly smile like she didn't even see it.

"Hey Uraraka. You excited for camp?" Ruka asked her.

"Yeah! I've been looking forward to camp all trimester!" Uraraka said as Ashido, and Kaminari all started chanting the word camp over and over. Uraraka joined in with their chanting. Their celebration was interrupted by Monoma from Class 1-B who started one of his insulting rants against Class 1-A again until his classmate, Kendo, knocked him out. Class 1-B then boarded their bus. Then Class 1-A's bus arrived.

"Attention Class 1-A, our bus is here! Everyone line up in seating order!" Iida said as everyone did as he said. Ruka sat next to Izuku on the bus. Mr. Aizawa explained they would be on the bus for about an hour until they reached their stop. But most of the class didn't hear him because they were too busy chatting. Ruka heard him though because she had exceptional hearing. Since they were going to be on the bus for a while and she didn't sleep very well the night before since she was too excited for camp, she decided to take a nap. At one point, her head lolled over and landed on Izuku's shoulder. He got flustered at first, but then relaxed as he quickly got used to her leaning on his shoulder. Uraraka glanced over at them, wishing she was in Ruka's place, leaning against Izuku's shoulder instead. Ruka slept the rest of the drive there. When the bus stopped, Izuku gently nudged her side to wake her up.

"Ruka, we're here. Wake up sleepyhead." Izuku said softly as Ruka's eyes fluttered open. She sat up straight and stretched her arms out. The two of them got off the bus with the rest of their classmates. Izuku stretched his arms after he got off the bus. Many of their classmates did the same. Mineta desperately had to use the bathroom. Two girls wearing skirts, crop tops, platform boots, cat paw gloves, and cat ear headgear exited the car parked near the bus. They were accompanied by a little boy wearing a white t-shirt, black shorts, boots, and a red baseball style hat with two forward facing yellow spikes on the front. The girls introduced themselves as the Wild Wild Pussycats. Izuku then went on a fanboy rant about them, but was cut off by Pixie-Bob covering his face with her paw. Mandalay pointed way off in the distance at the base of the mountain where the camp they were going to be staying at was.

"Uh then why did we stop all the way up here instead?" Uraraka asked.

"I'm afraid we both know the answer to that." Asui said, implying that they had to make it there on their own from here.

"That can't be right." Sato said nervously.

"Back on the bus, quick. Let's go." Sero said, pointing to the bus.

"Good idea. Load up." Kaminari said as everyone agreed.

"The current time is 9:30 in the morning. If you're fast about it, you might make it there by noon. If you don't make it there by 12:30 you won't get any lunch." Mandalay said as everyone ran to the bus. But they were cut off by Pixie-Bob who jumped in between them and the bus. She put her paws on the ground and manipulated the earth to throw all of them over the fenced in lookout down to the edge of the forest below.

"Good news! Since this is private land, you can use your quirks as much as you want to. You've got three full hours. You should be able to make it to the facility in that time. That is... if you can make it through the beast forest." Mandalay said as the students looked at the forest. Mineta immediately headed to the forest to look for a secluded spot to take a leak. But then a giant creature stood in his way. It was about to strike him as Koda tried using his quirk to tame the creature, but it didn't work because it was made of dirt. Izuku grabbed Mineta and whisked him out of the way before the beast struck. Todoroki, Iida, Bakugo, and Izuku worked together to take down the huge beast with ease. Shortly after they defeated it, more dirt creatures showed up. Unfortunately, since Ruka was in her school uniform like everyone else, she couldn't use her quirk to her full ability. She couldn't use her full body dragon transformation. She mainly manifested the dragon spirit to take care of the beasts as well as partially transforming into a dragon and calling upon the spirit's power to enhance her strength and speed to take them down herself. Everyone else did their part in taking down the dirt beasts while making their way through the forest towards the camp facility. It was sunset by the time they all arrived at the camp.

"You said it would only be about three hours." Sero said as everyone stopped to take a rest.

"I guess we timed it based on how long it'd take us, sorry." Mandalay said as she apologized.

"Now you're bragging about how much better you are? That's so mean." Sato said as Kirishima mentioned how hungry he was and how that was total hell.

"I thought it would take you kids even longer! But you did much better against my dirt monsters than I thought you would! You guys were seriously great. Especially... the five of you! It seems you have quite a bit of experience. I take dibs on these kittens! I'll groom them myself!" Pixie-Bob said as she pointed at then launched herself at Iida, Izuku, Ruka, Todoroki, and Bakugo. Izuku then brought up who the little boy was. Mandalay said that he was her cousin's kid, Kota, who lived with them now. Izuku then approached the boy and introduced himself to him, holding out his hand to him. But the little boy just punched him in his Deku Nuts instead. Iida and Ruka rushed to catch Izuku as he leaned forward from the pain.

"A low blow! You fiend of a child! A punch to the scrotum in unforgivable!" Iida said to Kota.

"The last thing I want is to hang with some wannabe heroes!" The little boy said looking back at the three of them angrily.

"Wannabe?! How old are you kid?!" Iida said as Ruka turned to Izuku, putting one hand on his chest to steady him and rubbed his back comfortingly with the other.

"Izuku, are you okay? How're you feeling?" Ruka asked Izuku who slowly started to gain a little color back in his face.

"It hurts a lot, but I think I'll be okay. I just hope this doesn't affect my ability to have kids." Izuku managed to say through his pain.

"Me too." Ruka said with a smile as she kissed Izuku on the nose. She and Iida then helped him to his feet. Mr. Aizawa told the class to get their belongings off the bus and bring them to their rooms. He told them they would have dinner in the cafeteria, then they could bathe and sleep.

Everyone was talking and stuffing their faces with food that Mandalay and Pixie-Bob had prepared for them. Ruka sat next to Izuku talking with him as always, but he seemed to be slightly distracted. He kept glancing at Kota, the little boy who punched him in the balls earlier. After dinner, the boys and girls separated to take baths then soak in the hot springs there. Ruka approached the edge of the hot spring with her towel wrapped around her body. Without hesitation, she took her towel off, revealing the numerous scars on her back. Then she stepped into the hot relaxing water that reached her stomach. Uraraka took notice of Ruka's scars.

"Aren't you self conscious about those scars on your back?" Uraraka asked Ruka who nodded shyly.

"As I've mentioned before, they're not from battles I've fought. They're from punishments for not meeting my training goals or for failing to complete assignments. They are marks of my failures, not marks of valor. They are proof of my past as an assassin, that of which I am trying to bury. I'm ashamed of them, yes but... Izuku said I'm beautiful even with these scars on my back. Him having told me that makes me feel a little less self conscious about myself." Ruka said with a soft smile. She was blushing slightly as she remembered that moment Izuku told her how beautiful she was even with scars when they made love.

"Wait when did Midoriya see your bare back? Don't tell me... you slept with him!" Hagakure practically squealed. Her mind was starting to go into the gutter.

"He just saw some of the scars showing from the open back of my hero costume body suit when we were training together over the weekend before final exams. I told him I wasn't proud of them when he asked more about them. It was then that he told me I was beautiful with or without them." Ruka lied smoothly, but Hagakure wasn't convinced.

"Then what's with that mark on your neck?" Hagakure asked, referring to the hickey Izuku had left on the base of Ruka's neck on the right side.

"Izuku and I had got a little carried away one day. We only got to second base though, clothes on and everything. Nothing beyond that." Ruka lied again. They had actually gone all the way.

"OMG seriously?!" Hagakure squealed again, fangirling like crazy. Uraraka wasn't as thrilled. Just then, Kota could be heard talking to Mineta at the top of the wall between the girl's and boy's side.

"Before you become a hero, you should learn to become a good human." Kota said as he slapped Mineta's hand away which caused the little creep to fall back down. The girls heard a big splash on the boy's side of the hot spring.

"Mineta really is the worst isn't he?" Asui said up to Kota.

"Thanks so much Kota babe! We owe you one." Ashido said, causing Kota to look over to the girl's side at her. He got flustered and fell over to the boy's side. The girls were worried about Kota, but they didn't hear a thud or splash so one of the boys must have caught him.

"Hey is Kota alright?" Ruka asked the boys.

"Yeah he's fine. I caught him just in time, but he seems to have fainted. I'm going to bring him to Mandalay and Pixie-Bob right away." Izuku's voice sounded on the other side of the wall as the girls sighed with relief. Izuku brought the unconscious Kota to Mandalay. While he was there, he found out through her and Pixie-Bob that Kota didn't like heroes because his parents were heroes and they were murdered by a villain while protecting civilians about two years ago. Mandalay explained to Izuku that in Kota's eyes, his parents left him behind and that if they weren't heroes, they would still be here. Izuku didn't really have a response, reflecting on what he was just told.

It was 5:30 AM and the sun was just starting to rise. Class 1-A met up with Mr. Aizawa, dressed in their U.A. gym uniforms. They were still tired from yesterday and getting up early. Mr. Aizawa tossed a ball to Bakugo for him to throw.

"When you first started school, your record was 705.2 meters. Let's see if you've improved." Mr. Aizawa said to Bakugo as he stepped up to throw the ball. He then wound up his arm and threw the ball as far as he could, using his explosion quirk to launch it way out into the distance. He got 709.6 meters which the class seemed a bit disappointed about. Mr. Aizawa said while they definitely had improved from the start of the year, that was mainly in mental prowess and technical skill and a little bit in stamina. Their quirks hadn't really grown much stronger on a fundamental level. And that was the focus of this summer training camp: improving their quirks.
