Chapter 7: Three-Step Plan
It was nearly 8 PM.
Marcus and the three members of the special operations team arrived early. Marcus had specifically chosen a corner booth for easy communication.
"Boss, what would you like to drink?" Jackson asked somewhat eagerly.
Marcus reminded him, "All club soda. We're starting the operation tonight."
"Okay!" Jackson nodded, then went to the bar.
A moment later, Jackson returned with four glasses of club soda. He looked around to make sure no one was watching before turning to Marcus. "Boss?"
Marcus took a stack of printed papers from his briefcase and distributed them to the three of them, indicating they should look at them.
The three quickly began to examine them.
The printed papers contained Marcus's plan, which consisted of three steps.
The first step was to compile a list of all the phone books in Los Angeles.
It was 1984 in The Terminator world, and at this point in time, almost every phone booth contained a phone book, recording the phone numbers and addresses of every household.
Marcus clearly remembered a scene from The Terminator where the Terminator T-800 found a phone book, located Sarah Connor's name, and then proceeded to kill people one by one based on their home addresses.
As for killing the wrong people?
Have you ever heard the saying, "Better safe than sorry"?
The Terminator T-800 only knew Sarah Connor's name, not what she looked like, so naturally, he had to resort to this methodical approach.
Marcus planned to use this to his advantage. First, he would conduct a comprehensive survey of all phone booths in Los Angeles, compiling a complete list of all the phone book entries.
The second step was to forge all the addresses and phone numbers associated with "Sarah Connor," secretly replacing them in the phone book entries to create misleading information.
Neither the Terminator T-800 nor the future resistance fighter Kyle Reese could obtain the true information from the phone books.
The third step, based on the second step, involved establishing corresponding trap addresses using the forged information.
Once the Terminator T-800 was misled by the false information, Marcus could receive the news immediately and react quickly.
A moment later, Marcus watched as the three team members put down the printed papers. He asked, "Have you all reviewed the plan?"
The three nodded.
"Any questions?" Marcus asked again.
Rodriguez and Williams remained silent, and Jackson hesitated for a moment before finally not asking.
Looking at the three silent men, Marcus took the initiative to explain.
"Perhaps you have doubts, but I can't explain them now. I can only tell you that you will understand later," Marcus explained simply.
"Alright, let's start the operation today. Each of us will be responsible for one area. I'll be in charge of the Downtown District, and you'll be in charge of the other three areas. The first step of the plan must be completed within seven days, and it needs to be reviewed three times to ensure everything is foolproof," Marcus reminded them.
"Understood," Jackson responded.
Rodriguez nodded. "No problem."
"Understood," Williams also nodded.
Four days passed quickly. March 14th, 9:00 AM.
In the office of the special operations team led by Marcus at the FBI Los Angeles field office, Marcus was reviewing the reports of the three team members. The first step of the plan, which Marcus originally thought would take seven days to complete, had now been completed ahead of schedule.
As Marcus reviewed the report, Jackson explained the situation. "Boss, we've already cross-referenced the number of phone booths and their corresponding phone book codes with the Department of Public Works. We checked each document three times."
Marcus nodded as he looked at the data. There were 486 phone booths in Los Angeles, and 48 of them had missing phone books, meaning there were still 438 phone books.
"Mark those phone booths with missing phone books carefully. You need to check them every day. If the phone books are found before we falsify the data, add them to the falsification process. If they are found after we've falsified the data, make sure they disappear completely," Marcus explained.
"Okay!" Jackson chuckled, indicating he understood.
"Take a look at this name." Marcus flipped through the Los Angeles phone book, stopping at the page for "Sarah Connor." There were three people with the same name, Sarah Connor.
Williams continued, "We've investigated them. But... Boss, they're all ordinary people; we haven't found anything wrong with them."
"They're definitely fine right now," Marcus nodded firmly. "Pay special attention to the Sarah Connor who works at Big Jeff's Restaurant; she's our real target. Instruct the LAPD to have a patrol car stationed near her apartment at all times."
"Understood," Williams nodded.
"By the way, Williams, once the third step of the plan is complete, you'll also be with the target Sarah Connor, and fully armed. While the third step is in place, I'll work with the department's sketch experts to create a sketch of the suspect. You must protect the target Sarah Connor," Marcus said solemnly.
Although Sarah Connor always narrowly escaped death in The Terminator storyline, this wasn't a movie; who knew what might happen?
Marcus couldn't afford to gamble!
If Sarah Connor died, it meant Skynet would definitely win, and it meant tragedy for Marcus.
"Yes, Boss," Williams replied.
"The second and third steps of the plan will proceed simultaneously. You handle the second step, and I'll handle the third," Marcus explained.
According to the information in the phone book, there are three Sarah Connors in Los Angeles with the same name. Marcus plans to arrange their addresses within a three-kilometer radius of the FBI's Los Angeles field office so that they can react quickly in case of an emergency.
"I'll go see Director Garrett first to handle the forged addresses. Once I've taken care of that, you guys will alter and forge the phone book information throughout the city," Marcus explained.
"Roger!" Jackson and the other two responded.
In Richard's office, Marcus was quickly explaining the corresponding plan, including preparing three fake addresses as the addresses of three Sarah Connors, etc.
After Marcus finished speaking, Richard was silent for a few seconds before saying, "Marcus, I can support your plan, but remember, you only have six months!"
Marcus secretly breathed a sigh of relief. He had to marvel at how powerful the system's ability to reverse cause and effect through destiny points was!
"Thank you, Boss!" Marcus replied. "Rest assured, we'll have results within six months!"
