Chapter 3 - Nothing Changed

Nothing changed.

That was the first thing I noticed the next morning.

Same classroom. Same noise. Same people pretending to care about things that didn't matter. The teacher talked about schedules and evaluations like the world depended on them.

I sat in my usual seat at the back.

Phone out. Game on.

No one mentioned the raider from last night. No news alerts. No rumors. No heroic headlines.

Good.

That meant it wasn't important.

Or someone didn't want it to be.

Around me, students whispered about hero sections and upcoming competitions. God of High School preliminaries were getting closer. Everyone sounded excited. Nervous. Hopeful.

I felt nothing.

Heroes used to be my dream once. A long time ago. Back when I still thought saving people meant something.

Now, it just looked like another job. Another lie people told themselves so they could sleep at night.

I cleared another stage and leaned back in my chair.

If yesterday disappeared so easily, then so could I.

That was how it should be.

A background character doesn't leave traces.
