Chapter 30 - ch XIV-Cat vs Beel

The morning sun filtered lazily through the curtains of the Oga household, casting long streaks of light across the cluttered living room. The tranquility of the early hour was deceptive, for the calm would not last long in a house that had long ago surrendered to chaos. And today, it wasn't just the usual daily madness of managing a demon baby—it had a new contender.

Oga was the first to notice it. While trudging down the hallway in his usual disheveled fashion—he froze mid-step. Near the sliding door, perched on the edge of the threshold like a miniature emperor surveying his domain, was a small black kitten. Its fur shimmered like polished onyx in the morning light, and its green eyes gleamed with an intensity that suggested both intelligence and an unspoken superiority over anyone nearby.

"Where... did this little guy come from?" Oga muttered, lowering himself to eye level with the feline. The kitten, as if understanding, stretched elegantly before casually strolling toward him. It rubbed against his leg with such deliberate affection, arching its back and purring like a tiny, vibrating engine of cuteness.

Beelzebub, sitting nearby in his high chair after having just finished a small breakfast, instantly noticed the newcomer. His eyes, wide and round, flicked from Oga to the black cat with a mix of horror and disbelief. Then, as the cat batted at Oga's shoelace, Beel's tiny hands began to crackle faintly with sparks of green electricity. His little mouth opened in a squeal that sounded more like a tiny thunderclap than a baby cry.

"BEEEEL!" Oga exclaimed, jumping backward just in time to avoid the jolt. "What the—! You can't just—!" His words trailed off as yet another arc of electricity crackled from Beel's tiny hands, narrowly missing a mug of coffee and instead sending it teetering on the edge of the table.

Beel's fury was palpable. The tiny demon baby, normally so engrossed in his milk or his random bursts of destruction, now sat cross-legged, eyes narrowing into twin emerald lasers of indignation. He began to wail—not the usual squeaky, playful cry, but the full-on, haughty, "How dare you steal my human?" scream that had terrified even seasoned delinquents of Ishiyama High. Each shriek sent minor tremors across the room, rattling the tableware and making Oga flinch reflexively with each surge.

Hilda, who had been quietly adjusting Beel's bib, looked up, an unamused expression firmly planted on her face. Her normally serene, commanding presence was tinged with exasperation this morning. She pinched the bridge of her nose and muttered, Master... just please eat already." Her voice was low, almost a growl, but there was an undercurrent of concern that only Oga and Kogen seemed to notice.

The kitten, oblivious to the miniature chaos it had triggered, leapt gracefully onto the edge of the table and regarded Hilda with an almost imperious gaze. Beel's little fists sparked violently, the electricity arcing toward the tiny intruder—but the kitten, with a flick of its tail, dodged with the elegance of a seasoned warrior. Then it looked at Hilda expectantly, and in a swift, decisive motion, tapped its paw against one of the cookies she had laid out for Beel.

Hilda's sigh was audible across the room though she also was charmed by the kitten cuteness. She leaned down, muttering, "Fine, if it wants food..." and placed a small piece of cookie before the kitten. The cat sniffed delicately, then ate it in the most refined and dainty manner imaginable, barely crunching the cookie as if it were a fine delicacy. Beel's eyes widened, sparks of jealousy igniting once again.

"EEEHHH?! BEEEL! You can't—!" Oga tried to intervene, but it was too late. Beel's jealousy had reached critical mass. His shriek erupted like a storm, and arcs of green electricity shot outward, nearly sending Oga flying backward. The sparks cracked along the floor, hitting the coffee mugs, the sugar container, and even a stray pen that was lying near the edge of the table. The kittens' green eyes widened for a fraction of a second, but then it tilted its head and batted a tiny paw at the arc, seemingly unbothered.

Oga scrambled to cover the shaking cups with his body, shouting, "Beel! Cut it out! You're going to break everything!"

Hilda too tried to calm beel, flustered herself saying "Its okay master, calm down."

Beel's cries continued unabated, escalating as the kitten jumped onto Oga's lap. The tiny demon gurgled angrily, trying to push the kitten off, but the cat's feline determination was unmatched. It climbed higher, nuzzling Oga's chest as if claiming him for itself, and purred with smug satisfaction.

"Darling..." Kogen's voice, soft but amused, echoed from behind Oga. The man had been quietly observing the entire scenario, leaning against the doorframe with that characteristic teasing smile that always made Oga's blood boil. "It seems the little one is... quite possessive."

Oga's face turned red, not just from exertion but from sheer embarrassment at Kogen's use of "darling" in such a chaotic moment. "I-I'm not... not like that! It's just—ugh! Just stop, Beel!" He swatted weakly at the baby, which only produced another spark, causing the kitten to leap effortlessly onto the sofa in one elegant bound.

Baby Beel, undeterred, crawled after the kitten, electricity sparking around his tiny fists. Each attempt to assert dominance over the cat ended with him bouncing off furniture, squealing indignantly, and accidentally shocking the coffee pot, which poured a stream of barely-holding-together liquid onto the floor.

Hilda finally sighed, stepping forward with decisive efficiency. She knelt, bringing her face level with Beel's, and said gently, "Master, look at me. You are strong... but being angry won't solve anything. Calm yourself, or you'll hurt everyone—including yourself."

Beel's ears twitched. His tiny, green eyes softened slightly, though only for a fraction of a second, before flaring up once again as the black kitten meandered closer. The tension between the demon baby and the kitten had reached its peak—a storm ready to erupt—but Kogen, still calm, extended a hand and drew both Beel and the cat gently into his embrace.

The kitten, recognizing a figure of equal authority, nestled in Kogen's arms without hesitation. Beel, still trembling with indignation, squealed, "Nuuuh! That's... mine!"—though his tone was more plaintive than threatening now. Sparks fizzled in tiny arcs over Kogen's sleeve, but the man simply smiled faintly, holding both the kitten and the baby with effortless patience.

Oga, crouched nearby, scratched the back of his head, muttering to himself, "I swear... this kid's jealousy... it's insane. And that cat—why does it act like it owns the place already?"

Hilda shook her head, muttering under her breath, "Idiot..." while Kogen's smile widened, clearly amused by the chaos that only the Oga household could produce.

The scene froze in a strange, domestic tableau: Oga exasperated, Beel pouting with sparks still crackling faintly from his tiny fists, Kogen calm and teasing, and the black kitten sitting regally in his arms, purring as if it had been the ruler of this household for centuries.

Comedic narration boxes floated in the margins: "The war for affection has begun... and no one is winning... yet."

And thus, the first day of the black kitten's arrival in the Oga household ended in chaos, sparks, and jealous glares—a perfect, chaotic blend of domestic absurdity and supernatural tension that could only exist in a home where a delinquent, a demon baby, and two equally exasperating caretakers resided.
