Nora's POV
Waving my hand frantically, I try to clear the thick smoke clouding my vision. The acrid smell burns my throat, making me cough as I step back from the flames consuming the remains.
"Almost finished here," I announce to my familiars, who've positioned themselves around the makeshift pyre like curious spectators.
"Finally," I mutter, dropping onto the warm ground. The afternoon sun beats down mercilessly, heating the earth beneath me. For a moment, I imagine I'm lounging on some tropical beach instead of supervising a corpse cremation. The fantasy might actually work if I wasn't worried about my house catching fire.
A yawn escapes me as I drag myself up and seek refuge on the shaded porch. Rhianna winds around my ankles, and I lift her into my arms. "So you've decided to forgive me for leaving you behind during all the excitement."
Both Rhianna and Evangeline had been less than thrilled about playing babysitter while Mack got to join the undead battle.
