Nora's POV
Damn it all to hell.
"Hey there," Brent calls out, raising both hands in the air. The older boy grips his weapon tightly, barrel aimed directly at our position. "Thank god you showed up." His expression shifts dramatically, eyes widening as he adopts a mask of terror.
"This might sound insane, but we witnessed some kind of shadow emerge from that building, followed by screaming." His gaze flickers toward Mack, and I instantly understand his strategy.
I thread my arm through Brent's, channeling my best impression of a frightened woman. The role feels foreign and uncomfortable, but I commit to the performance. "Will that thing return?"
Mack melts into the overgrown garden bed before sliding forward through the shadows, positioning himself directly in our line of sight. I attempt a terrified shriek, but the sound emerges forced and artificial, definitely not award-worthy material.
