Nora's POV
My pace slows to a walk as gravel shifts beneath my running shoes. I lift my arms above my head in a long stretch, feeling sweat trickling down my spine. All I want right now is a cold shower to wash away the heat of this evening run.
"Notice anything different out there?" I call to Mack, glancing toward his dark silhouette moving alongside me. He joined me for another jog along the same route we took recently, the one where I could have sworn the Watson line was humming with fresh energy.
"Same as always," he responds simply.
I blow out a frustrated breath and brush away the mosquitoes swarming around us as we head back down the road. The sun hangs lower now, painting the sky in deeper shades, which means James should be here any minute. All I want is food, some trashy television, and to collapse into bed with him wrapped around me.
Unfortunately, James is just beginning his nightly routine while I'm winding down from my day.
