I used to roll my eyes at people who stockpiled canned goods in their basements. Now I'm starting to think they had the right idea all along.
My laugh comes out shaky and forced. Those conspiracy theorists might have been smarter than the rest of us.
James studies my face with those penetrating dark eyes. Would buying supplies make you feel more secure?
Yes and no. The thought of being the only survivors makes my stomach turn. I can't imagine living in a world where everything beautiful has been destroyed. If the Horsemen succeed, I don't think civilization will ever recover from that kind of devastation.
The world has survived terrible things before. I know I've said vampires are better than humans in many ways, but humans have something we lack. They have this incredible ability to bounce back from tragedy. I've watched communities rebuild after massacres. I've seen bitter enemies work together when disasters strike. You can't give up hope, Nora.
