Nora's POV
I jolt awake, my chest heaving as consciousness crashes back into me. The fact that I managed to fall asleep at all shouldn't shock me, but it does. My body has reached its breaking point, and shutting down temporarily is just another survival instinct kicking in.
I'm lying in the same bedroom where James brought me after Leonard's brutal assault that claimed Kevin's life. This space is quickly becoming cursed with bad memories.
This time, though, a small wooden cradle sits nearby, and Renata sleeps peacefully within it, her tiny chest rising and falling steadily. At least she granted me an hour of rest.
Antonia remains motionless in the corner armchair, her vampire sleep making her appear completely lifeless. She'd make an elegant corpse, I think absently.
