"You know what, Savannah? You turned out to be far more entertaining than I expected. Originally planned to use you for breeding a few heirs, then dispose of you. But now? I think I'll keep you around longer."
Dennis dragged his injured leg closer until his body pressed against mine. Starlight barely illuminated his features, but those golden eyes never stopped glowing. His vanilla scent saturated the night air, mixing with the metallic smell of blood and damp earth until breathing became nearly impossible.
Our chests heaved in unison as we struggled to catch our breath. The ragged sounds echoed through the dark woods like we were trapped inside a tomb.
This was it.
Game over.
Still breathing, but who knew when another opportunity to flee would present itself.
My fingers trembled with the violent urge to strike him and bolt into the darkness again. Yet I understood the futility - one wrong move and I'd be dead before taking another step.
