Chapter 53 - Chapter 53

  Chapter 53 Shameless Finney

Skye didn't cherish the fish in her hand as a keepsake or anything, readily agreeing with Finney's decision, her mind still wandering between steaming, braising, or grilling it!

"Tomorrow we'll go to the next place,"

Finney reminded Skye, who was lost in thought. There were only two days left of their vacation; if the next place wasn't right, they'd have to wait until next time. Hearing

Finney's words, Skye snapped out of her reverie and casually asked, "Where to tomorrow?"

  "Puerto Rico!"

The next day, Finney and Skye arrived in Puerto Rico. The place wasn't particularly special; even the capital, San Juan, was just a small town that didn't seem very prosperous.

  "Where do we go next?"

Outside the hotel, Skye looked around excitedly and asked Finney.

  "Let's wander around first!"

Finney replied absentmindedly, a hint of surprise in her eyes.

Since arriving in San Juan, the compass readings had begun to change, indicating that they had reached their destination. The place where Skye could awaken her powers should be in this city.

"That place seems to be underground!"

Finney looked down at the ground, then at Skye, who was looking around curiously. He didn't tell her this yet; it wouldn't be too late to tell her later when everything was ready.

Finney quietly followed the compass's guidance, leading Skye around the city, eventually stopping at an ancient castle at a dock.

Looking at the dilapidated castle before him, Finney knew that, barring any unforeseen circumstances, the ruins left by the Kree were below.

But in the end, Finney didn't explore the underground ruins. He was worried about potential problems and decided it was better to be cautious.

A day later, the two flew home.

On the way back, Finney actually wanted to open a portal directly, but considering that they both had exit records, there might be risks if they didn't go through the proper procedures, so he ultimately decided to take the plane.

The return trip went smoothly as well, so it seems that apart from New York, the rest of the world is actually quite safe.

After this trip, Skye's mood improved significantly, and she returned to her usual personality. Perhaps the only difference was that she seemed to have a goal in mind, and even her daily training became much more serious.

Since Skye was working so hard, Finney naturally didn't want to fall behind.

The holidays ended, and school was generally fine; while his grades weren't necessarily the best, they were definitely among the top. However, his Kamar-Taj magic was somewhat lacking.

"I'm not studying anymore! I'm not studying anymore!"

After failing again in his attempt to separate his soul from his body, Finney angrily slammed his book shut and muttered. He felt that even learning about teleportation hadn't been this difficult.

  "You're aiming too high."

Not far away, seeing Finney's agitated state, Mordo walked over and frowned, advising, "Finney, you're really not suited for such advanced magic right now."

Finney sighed silently, unsure how to put it, but he truly wanted to give up. Even if he learned it, with his half-baked skills, how could he possibly deal with Abomination?

"Yeah, I know, I'll learn it later."

Finney replied to Mordo. He really wasn't suited to learning this spell right now, and the spell to separate the soul from the body required a lot of mental focus, making it difficult to even use the 'Golden Grand Evolution Technique' for assistance.

"You're still young, you have plenty of time, why are you in such a hurry?"

Mordo asked curiously, seeing Finney's angry expression. He always felt that Finney's learning seemed to have some purpose.

  "Time waits for no one!"

Finney replied with some emotion. If nothing changed, he would only have a maximum of ten years left to face Thanos, not to mention that he could easily do something that would bring that time forward. How could he not be anxious?

  "?"

Mordo looked puzzled and was about to ask more questions when Finney spoke up first, "Alright, alright, let's not talk about this anymore, let's spar!"

"But I still have to go and instruct Kasirios on some magical issues later."

Mordo shook his head in reply.

  "Dog, you've changed!"

Finney immediately looked at Mordo resentfully. In the past, Mordo never refused his sparring, but now that Kasirios had only been here a short time, he was already refusing.

Was this what they called forgetting the old for the new?!

  "Dog?"

Mordo stared blankly at Finney, not understanding the meaning of those two words.

"He's so talented, let him learn on his own!" Finney continued, "You should care more about hardworking little mages like me!"

  "..."

Mordo looked at Finney speechlessly, but finally agreed to Finney's request for a sparring match. Anyway, a sparring match wouldn't take much time, and both of them would be careful, so it wouldn't affect his teaching others later.

But who was Finney? After knowing Mordo's upcoming itinerary, how could he let him have his way?

He hoped that Kasirios's magic learning would be as slow as possible, so that if he betrayed him later, it would be easier to deal with him.

So in the sparring match that followed, Finney used all his strength, specifically targeting Mordo's face.

Finney had been training diligently in Kamar-Taj almost every day. Although his progress in spellcasting wasn't significant, his overall strength was steadily improving.

He had gone from losing more battles than winning against Mordo to winning more, especially when he was serious.

So, after the battle, Mordo, his face bruised and swollen, glared fiercely at Finney.

"I was so stupid, really," Mordo struggled to open his lifeless eyes. "Knowing you didn't like Kasirius, why did I tell you!"

"Don't talk nonsense, I just couldn't control myself for a moment."

Finney turned his head away, avoiding Mordo's eyes, though a slight smile played on his lips. Protected by his 'Demon Possession', Mordo hadn't left him a single wound.

Seeing Mordo's pitiful state, Finney forced a smile and comforted him, "Don't worry, it's just flesh and blood. It'll be fine in a few days."

Mordo didn't speak. If he weren't already unable to defeat Finney using ordinary methods, he would have definitely challenged him to another duel.

Hindered by Kasirius's progress, Finney's mood soured at not being able to learn spirit magic. Even after opening a portal home, the smile on his face hadn't faded.

Before long, it was early March.

Having abandoned his spirit magic training, Finney focused entirely on grinding experience again, and the battle maniac of Kamar-Taj returned.

The only difference was that this time he bore the title of 'Silver Knight,' and whenever he was outmatched, he would immediately fly into the air and cheat.

"Admit defeat, Mage Daniel, you can't beat me!"

Finney shouted at a bald mage in mid-air. As the guardian of the New York Sanctum, Daniel Drumm was quite powerful; he was the one who had led Finney to Kamar-Taj.

"Mage Finney, you can't do this every time!"

Daniel shouted angrily from the training ground. Few mages on Kamar-Taj could fly, and while there were aerial spells, they were difficult for Finney, who could skillfully use levitation, to hit.

"I don't care, I'll get off if you admit defeat,"

Finney shouted back. Actually, Finney wasn't necessarily no match for Daniel, but he had already fought two opponents and was severely exhausted, so he resorted to this method to secure victory.

After all, the experience gained from victory was much greater than from defeat. Finney didn't know if this counted as exploiting a system loophole, but for the sake of experience, he was willing to throw away all pretense of dignity.
