"Officer… you have to save me!"
Chen Guobang was already crying, tears streaming down his face.
The way his brothers had died was simply too horrific.
One had been hacked to death in a frenzy of blades.
Another had been driven mad and literally forced his own body until he burst.
The third was even worse—after falling under an illusion spell, he died beneath a needle-head curse.
Their deaths were unspeakably terrifying.
Ah Mei's gaze clung to Ma Jun, her eyes shimmering with emotion.
In a soft, pleading voice, she said,
"Yes, Officer… our lives are in your hands now."
"Hey—!"
Before Ma Jun could respond, the elderly master who practiced spirit-striking suddenly let out a long sigh.
"Master Luo, why are you sighing?" Chen Guobang asked anxiously.
Although Master Luo was old, his body was packed with solid muscle, clearly the result of genuine hard training.
He looked sharp and vigorous.
"What's the point of calling the police?" Master Luo said helplessly.
"Nami's head-lowering sorcery has already reached perfection. What use are the police now?"
"Look at this—sending a kid like him here. If he ends up losing his life too, wouldn't that just be throwing it away?"
His face was full of regret.
Ma Jun didn't bother to explain.
Master Luo wasn't a bad person. He was the master of one of the three men who had died.
He could have stayed out of this entirely, but still chose to step in decisively.
Even so, his strength was still far below Nami's.
"Kid," Master Luo said bitterly, trying to persuade him,
"listen to me and leave while you still can."
"Go contact the Paranormal Association. If they're willing to intervene, maybe—just maybe—we'll have a chance to survive."
The moment his words fell—
The lights in the apartment suddenly flickered.
A chill wind swept through the corridor.
A piercing, manic laugh echoed throughout the room.
Master Luo's face changed dramatically.
"Damn it… now even if we want to leave, we can't!"
Ma Jun calmly stood up and pulled Jiang Han behind him.
"Stay behind me. Don't move."
"O-okay."
Jiang Han nodded quickly. She knew her own limits—getting involved would only hold Ma Jun back.
"Ah Mei, be careful!" Chen Guobang shouted, trying to protect his girlfriend.
But when he turned his head, he realized Ah Mei had already moved to Ma Jun's side.
Her eyes were wet, her expression pitiful.
"Officer… please save me."
Her soft body pressed tightly against Ma Jun's arm.
Ma Jun only felt as though his arm had sunk into cotton—
extremely soft, extremely elastic.
Ah Mei's face flushed red as she pressed even closer.
Chen Guobang stared blankly, his mouth slightly open, his mind suddenly going numb.
Bang!
The tightly shut front door burst open.
Standing in the doorway was a powerfully built man.
Ah Mei screamed in shock.
"Brother!"
"Ah Jiang!" Chen Guobang cried out as well.
The newcomer was none other than one of the three dead friends—
Ah Jiang, who was also Ah Mei's older brother.
His head was nearly twice its normal size, completely studded with steel needles.
He had died under the needle-head curse.
Now, his corpse had been refined by Nami into a walking corpse, possessing terrifying strength.
"Everyone stay back! I'll handle him!" Master Luo shouted.
He formed hand seals rapidly, slapping his own body again and again.
"Thirty-Three Heavens above the crown!"
"Eight Great Marshals, manifest divine power!"
The strange patterns on his body glowed faintly, and his aura surged.
"Ha!"
With a roar, he charged at Ah Jiang.
The two quickly grappled together.
Ma Jun observed quietly for a moment and immediately reached a conclusion.
After summoning a spirit, Master Luo was far stronger than an ordinary person—
roughly on par with an elite werewolf guard from Castle Akuna.
But the refined Ah Jiang was slower, while his defense was frighteningly high.
Master Luo simply couldn't break through it.
That's it?
Ma Jun felt a little disappointed.
If he stepped in, the fight would be over in less than a second.
Is head-lowering sorcery really only this capable?
Just as Ma Jun was about to end the fight—
Chen Guobang suddenly rolled his eyes back.
His body convulsed violently, white foam spilling from his mouth.
Then—
He snapped his head around and stared at Ah Mei with eyes filled with obsession.
"Hahahahaha! I'm going to kill you!"
He lunged straight at her.
Ma Jun raised an eyebrow.
Possession?
Chen Guobang threw himself at Ah Mei. She screamed in terror and clutched tightly onto Ma Jun.
She pressed his arm against her chest, wishing she could bury herself into him.
"Officer—save me!"
Ma Jun casually reached out and grabbed Chen Guobang, stopping him.
But the instant their strength met, Ma Jun's expression changed slightly.
Chen Guobang's strength was actually able to contend with his.
You had to know—
Ma Jun's Strength stat was a full 10 points.
"Hahahahaha!"
"If you've got the guts, kill me!"
Chen Guobang roared madly.
Ma Jun couldn't use lethal force. If Chen Guobang died, the mission would fail.
"Tsk."
He kicked Chen Guobang away in one clean motion.
Ah Mei still refused to let go. Ma Jun frowned and smacked her firmly on the butt.
"Let go."
Ah Mei let out a soft cry and finally released him, looking reluctant.
Ma Jun's speed fully exploded into action—so fast it was frightening.
He swiftly tied Chen Guobang up with a rope.
At this moment, Master Luo was already locked in a bitter struggle.
His body was covered in bloody gashes, his movements growing sluggish.
"Get out of the way!"
Ma Jun's shout rang out behind him.
Master Luo instinctively dodged.
Whoosh!
A violent gust of wind tore past his face.
When Master Luo saw what had just appeared in front of him—
A massive heavy hammer—
He froze on the spot, eyes wide, completely stunned.
