"Did that man just now have a problem?"
After the two of them walked away, Jiang Han couldn't help asking.
Ma Jun looked thoughtful.
"For now, it's still unclear."
"Is it really possible that someone wouldn't mind living in a murder house?"
Jiang Han was deeply doubtful. As far as she knew, people on Hong Kong Island had always cared a lot about things like this.
"Maybe there are," Ma Jun shrugged lightly. "Who knows?"
"Let's go. We'll check the crime scenes."
Ma Jun led Jiang Han to the places where the three victims had died.
These three rooms were all unoccupied now.
The place where the human-skin wedding dress had been made—so much so that even other tenants in the building avoided passing by.
Police seals had been pasted across the doors.
When Ma Jun brought Jiang Han over, she couldn't help once again feeling envious of his memory.
She was incredibly curious—how could Ma Jun memorize so much complicated information in such a short time?
Casually, Ma Jun tore off the police seal, then slapped the door lock open with one palm and strolled right in.
The simple, crude violence of it made Jiang Han smack her lips in amazement.
The moment they entered the room, a wave of putrid stench rushed at them.
It was as if something had rotted away inside.
Jiang Han instinctively pinched her nose.
She found it strange.
The corpse and the human-skin wedding dress had already been removed—so why did the room still smell?
Ma Jun sniffed lightly.
This rotten smell wasn't quite the same as the stench of a decaying corpse.
He looked toward the floor.
On the tiles were dark brown stains.
They were probably left behind by blood that had seeped in.
The room had clearly already been searched by the police. Things were slightly messy.
It wasn't a large room to begin with, so there wasn't much stuff.
Most of it was various kinds of lingerie—nurse outfits, maid outfits—probably dozens of sets.
Very professional.
Ma Jun walked over and began rummaging through them.
The corner of Jiang Han's eye twitched.
"What are you doing, digging through that stuff?!" she blurted out.
"Of course I'm looking for clues."
Ma Jun kept flipping through the hundreds of stockings made of different materials.
"You—"
Jiang Han really wanted to say that there was no way any clues could still be found here.
Hadn't the police already searched everything?!
But when she looked at those strange, multi-functional props, she really couldn't bring herself to say it out loud.
"Oh—look at this."
Ma Jun slowly straightened up, holding a photograph in his hand.
"Huh?"
Jiang Han quickly walked over, her gaze fixing on the photo.
In the picture was a man and a woman leaning against each other.
The woman was youthful and beautiful. The man's face was pale, with a hint of excitement on it.
"Who is this?" Jiang Han asked in confusion.
"Is it the victim who lived in this room before?"
Ma Jun shook his head.
"This is Qiqi."
"And also—the murderer who killed the latter three victims."
"This…"
Jiang Han felt as if she'd been hit hard.
The two of them had clearly spent the entire afternoon together questioning people about the case, yet she felt as if she hadn't really asked anything at all.
Meanwhile, Ma Jun had been chatting effortlessly with the hostesses—and still managed to remember so much.
The sense of frustration was overwhelming.
"Look again at the man in the photo. Does he seem familiar?"
Ma Jun asked patiently, guiding her.
Jiang Han stared carefully at the man for a few seconds. Suddenly, her face changed dramatically.
"This is… that guy from earlier!"
The man in the photo was the very same new tenant living in Qiqi's former room!
That vulgar, gloomy look of his had left a deep impression on Jiang Han.
Compared to the photo, his appearance had changed drastically.
His hair had grown very long, his face had become increasingly haggard, and his body was thin and gaunt.
But that face could still be vaguely recognized.
"It's him!"
Jiang Han shouted excitedly. "He clearly knew Qiqi—so why did he lie?"
"What is he hiding?!"
Suddenly, a flash of insight struck Jiang Han.
She remembered her earlier conversation with Ah Hu.
"That's right!"
Her expression lit up as she said excitedly,
"I remember now! Ah Hu said that before Qiqi died, she had a boyfriend!"
"He didn't mind her background, and their relationship was very good."
"She even said she wanted to save money and go abroad to study!"
"Could it be… that this man is Qiqi's boyfriend?!"
Jiang Han was exhilarated. She felt that the truth of the case was already within arm's reach.
"That's a very reasonable deduction," Ma Jun nodded.
"A beloved girlfriend suddenly dies tragically. So he enters the place where she once worked, lying low to investigate."
"Then he uncovers the truth behind her death—and finds that it's connected to three special workers."
"He becomes furious, nearly losing his reason. He wants revenge for his girlfriend. He wants those three special workers to pay the price!"
"So, using methods unknown to others, he disguises himself as his girlfriend, making everyone believe she personally returned to claim their lives!"
"And with cruel means, he kills those three special workers."
"Perhaps… he might even kill more people!"
"A perfect line of reasoning!"
Jiang Han said urgently. "Then let's hurry and report it! Once we find the murderer, we can complete the mission!"
Ma Jun, however, was completely unmoved.
He slowly raised his head, his eyes unusually bright.
"Do you really think," he asked quietly,
"that things would be this simple?"
Jiang Han froze. "Huh?"
"What I mean is—don't you feel that this deduction is too smooth?"
