Reign took a deep breath and buried his head in the crook of her neck. "Please forgive me. I don't even know what I did, but I hate seeing you so distant; it makes my heart ache," he said, making Evie melt into his hug. She raised her hand, putting it on his head, patting it lightly.
"Your Highness, it's urgent," Dorothy said, almost in tears, just inches away from running into the emperor and Evie. "The empress," she said, sobbing, unable to finish her sentence.
Reign let go of Evie, running in the direction of Phoenix Pavilion, leaving Evie standing with her hand up in the air. She sighed, removing his robe, and shivered. She walked to her pavilion alone, her shoulders slumped.
She reached her bed chambers and, without waiting for the girls, she removed her jewellery and makeup, changed into her nightwear, and went to bed.
