Synopsis
Celia Nivalis resided with her grandmother in a remote village, hidden away in the mountains of Northern Virensia. She lived simply, eating what the mountain provided and hunting under the pale sun in the dense, cold forest. But, unknown to her, she's always had a secret: one that threatened to flip her life upside down and the destiny of the world. Note: The story concentrates on magic and while there may be romance later down the line, it's not going to be the main focus. As the author, I feel that it's my responsibility to show that we girls don't need a shining knight as a promised valentine in order for us to dominate the world. Thank you.

Chapter 1 - prologue

11 years ago, the Lord of the Snow, a white-tailed buck larger than any tree, suddenly appeared in the northern region of Virensia. Its antlers destroyed mountains, its feet emptied lakes like they were puddles, and its breath were strong enough to send crashing blizzards towards the few villages that nestled in the snow.

The sorcerers rose up to defend their people.

"Keep defending and wait for the arch-sorceror!" A man, bloodied beyond recognition, yelled towards his comrades as he flew into a flurry of wind towards the beast. The sky darkened with each minute, and the moon was hidden behind a curtain of snow. They couldn't see anything other than the spells they cast.

Trees crunched in the distance while the wind howled uncontrollably; the cold turned their skin raw and numb. Still, the many men and women on the scene channeled attack spells: fireballs, wind bursts, ice spears, stone boulders, healing.

"Don't let it get close to the village! We just need to-" A woman screamed, her voice dying out as a large tree soared out towards her direction. It slammed into her body, sending her flying towards the snowstorm and beyond sight.

Her friend shouted, as the woman's body disappeared into the white. The scent of death, despair and tragedy was pungent. It was evident on peoples' eyes; the looks that they gave their comrades, and even in the composition of their incantations.

The wind abruptly grew louder into a deafening sound. The snow underneath their feet began flying into the sky and the ground bellowed, shaking with fervor. At that moment, the swirling clouds above and the blizzard that whipped around seemed to stop; everything froze. No sound was made. No snow fell from the sky. Not a single hair flew in the wind. Only the crunching of their boots, and the heaving of their chests could be heard.

Then instantly, everything that was frozen whooshed away; flying towards the east and the west. They moved like tidal waves, carrying debris towards the edges of the battle field. And, in its wake, it revealed the soft horizon and the Lord of the Snow in all its glory.

It stood, without moving in front of a mountain, facing the silhouette of a man who raised his hand, weaving a spell that glowed with an intricate circular pattern. Then, he whispered something unintelligible beneath his breath, and as the puffs of his words disappeared, the spell ruptured with golden light, causing the man and the deer to both vanish.

The sorcerors, seeing this, injured and not, looked with utter awe.

This night, a man that they called the "arch-sorceror" faced the beast in mortal combat. He would contain it within the frosty, frozen lands of northern Virensia then disappear to never be seen again.
