Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: I Find It Dirty

"Get her out of here! She's a hussy! For all we know, she could be an enemy agent. Who dares to run around without a letter of introduction these days? And to show up at the home of a newlywed couple, shamelessly staying in someone else's house."

"Exactly! Officer, you can't go soft on her. Anyone without a letter of introduction has to be arrested."

Grace Winslow didn't say a word, but the neighbors on either side couldn't hold back any longer.

To them, Ivy White looked like nothing but trouble.

Caleb Forrest grew anxious and quickly looked toward Grace Winslow.

Grace Winslow met his gaze calmly.

Their eyes met, and Caleb Forrest's heart pounded.

He had a vague feeling that something had changed.

It felt as if, in that instant, he had lost something very important.

Without a letter of introduction, it was an inexcusable offense, no matter who you were.

Ivy White claimed her letter of introduction had been stolen by a pickpocket on her way here.

But the relevant authorities would naturally investigate to find out if that was true.

She was taken away.

Caleb Forrest chased after them, pulling out a few yuan and stuffing the money into the hands of the two officers who were taking her away, hoping they would look after her.

The older officer just gave him a deep look and took the money.

The younger one, however, shot him a vicious glare.

Ivy White was taken away.

Caleb Forrest returned, dejected.

The neighbors were still gossiping at his doorstep.

Annoyed, he lost his temper with them for the first time and shooed them all away.

After shutting the door, he looked at Grace Winslow, his voice laced with disappointment. "Grace, I never thought you were this kind of person. In a situation like that, why didn't you help Vivi?"

"She's all alone, she just had a baby, and she hasn't even finished her postpartum confinement. How is she going to survive in a place like that?"

"Caleb Forrest, she isn't my first love, nor is she my wife. I don't owe her a single thing."

"On the contrary, she's the one who showed up at my home with a child out of the blue, causing a rift between my husband and me."

"From what I can see, your feelings for her run deeper than your feelings for me. If that's the case, why did you ever get involved with me? Why did we have to get married?"

"Sister-in-law, I don't want to stay here anymore. Please, take me home."

She couldn't stand being in this house for another minute.

The only reason Grace Winslow had come back was to watch the drama unfold.

She wanted to see just how far Caleb Forrest would go for Ivy White.

In her past life, those words before her death were, in the end, just Ivy White's side of the story. 'I have to see it with my own eyes to finally lose all hope.'

Now that her heart was dead, there was no need to stay here and watch Caleb Forrest disgust her.

Hearing this, Caleb Forrest panicked. "I'm sorry, Grace. I... I was wrong. I shouldn't have said that to you, but she..."

"Forget it. It's all my fault. Don't go. You're still sick, so stay and rest. I'll go get the room cleaned up."

"No need. I find it filthy," Grace Winslow said, her tone icy.

The bright hickey on Caleb Forrest's neck was like a vicious slap across her face.

"Wh-what did you say?" As if struck by lightning, Caleb Forrest stared at Grace Winslow, his face pale.

Her words struck him like a bolt from the blue.

Caleb Forrest lunged forward anxiously to grab Grace Winslow's hand. "Grace, there's really nothing between her and me. You have to believe me, I..."

SLAP—

Before he could finish, Grace Winslow raised her hand and slapped him hard across the face. "Caleb Forrest, before you say that, why don't you get rid of the mark on your neck first!"

"You truly disgust me!"

"Let's get a divorce."
