The two of them had just finished eating when the whistle to start work blew.
The corn harvest was finished, leaving only the soybeans and rice in the fields. Today, they would either be harvesting soybeans or reaping rice.
There was also lighter work: going to the threshing ground to shell the corn. Compared to the labor in the fields, the tasks at the threshing ground were a bit easier.
For the past two days, as the corn was being harvested, people at the threshing ground were shucking it. The husks could be distributed to each household to be used for starting cooking fires in the winter.
The corn stalks could also be burned for fuel, and everyone scrambled to get them.
These were all valuable resources and weren't just given away; they had to be distributed according to work points.
