A rare gentleness filled Nathaniel Nathan's eyes. He leaned over slightly and placed a light kiss on her face.
She used to always keep her distance from him, but ever since she hit her head, she was no longer afraid of him.
He didn't know if her recent intimacy was just an act. He murmured softly, "Vera Xavier, if this is an act, then you just have to keep it up for a lifetime."
Nathaniel lay awake until dawn. He got up, changed his clothes, and as he opened the small window, he glanced back at her one more time. She was sleeping soundly. He wondered what she was dreaming about as she licked her lips in her sleep.
Nathaniel couldn't resist. He turned back and kissed her again, then took a new set of clothes from his backpack and placed them on her small desk. He then slipped out the small window, silently scaling down the wall and leaving the compound without a sound.
