Chapter 12 - Chapter 11: Fleeing for Their Lives

Bullseye!

Weston sighed inwardly.

Zeeself was indeed worthy of being the Master.

The moment he saw Weston appear in the guild, he immediately guessed the purpose of his visit.

Weston didn't answer his question; he simply opened the magic map and took a look.

"One more minute."

"There's about one minute left until the enemy arrives."

One minute wasn't long, but it was enough time to say goodbye. Weston thought to himself that he should at least let this father and daughter have their final farewell.

However...

"No need."

"I've already said what needed to be said in advance."

"Waking Zera up now will only bring her pain and fear. Just let her have a good sleep."

"Take her to a safe place and hide her. When she wakes up tomorrow, everything will be over."

When she wakes up, will she have to face the collapse of her world directly?

But since Zeeself had said so, Weston didn't insist.

BOOM—!!!

A violent shelling sound came from afar, followed by a burst of noisy battle cries, the cries of villagers running for their lives and calling for help, sounds of fighting, and the noises of various buildings collapsing.

"Looks like they've arrived!"

Weston looked at the map. The hundreds of red dots had already entered the village and were blocking all passages in and out of the village in an encircling formation.

Zeeself stood up. "Kid, I leave Zera's protection to you from now on."

"Alright."

Receiving an affirmative answer, Zeeself smiled with satisfaction.

Smiling through tears, it was truly uglier than crying.

Then, he grabbed a stool from the tavern as a weapon, strode out of the tavern's main door, briefly identified his bearings, and charged towards the most chaotic part of the village.

"Phew..."

"Let's hurry and leave too!"

Weston hoisted the unconscious Zera onto his back, led Mavis out of the guild, and ran in the opposite direction.

As the familiar houses and streets receded, the surrounding chaos grew heavier.

"Kill! Kill! Leave no one alive!!"

"Hahaha... The treasures are all mine!"

"Stop them!!"

"Go to hell!!"

"..."

The sound of wind, fire, slaughter, cries for help, and various magic bombardments all mixed together.

A sea of fire reaching the sky illuminated the dark night as bright as day.

Across his past and present lives, this was the first time Weston had encountered such a scene.

Hearing these various sounds and seeing these scenes, his heart was extremely unsettled.

In the end, he couldn't help but complain.

"This era is truly dangerous. Why wasn't I born a hundred years later?!"

Thinking of the prosperous, lively, and peaceful Magnolia in the anime, the hot-blooded, youthful, and invincible "Fairy Tail," and the group of guild members who would cheat death and activate hacks at the slightest disagreement...

Contrasting that with everything before his eyes.

Weston just felt mentally exhausted.

With the help of the magic map, Weston could monitor the positions of the mages invading the island in real-time. This provided tremendous help for him and Mavis in their escape.

The two of them avoided places where enemies gathered as much as possible, advancing in a roundabout way. Coupled with their small stature, they weren't conspicuous in such a chaotic scene, and they actually managed to dodge several crises along the way.

"A little further ahead, and the number of enemies will decrease. Then the chances of a successful escape will greatly increase..."

Unfortunately, heaven does not grant people's wishes!

Just when Weston felt he was about to see hope for survival, a loud boom came from ahead.

In the darkness, a thick pillar of fire cut through the sky, blasting down four or five houses and piercing through two or three walls with the force of a thunderbolt. Instantly, tongues of fire splattered, debris flew, and smoke filled the air.

Immediately after, two mages with ferocious faces walked out of the smoke and stopped right in front of Weston and Zera.

The two sides were less than five meters apart!

Bad news!

He was so focused on avoiding the red dots that he forgot this wasn't a game; the opponents could completely take unconventional paths!

Weston cried out inwardly, and Mavis was trembling all over with fright.

"Oh my, what do I see? There are actually two pitiful brats here who can't find their daddy!"

The man on the left was tall and strong, covered in muscles, carrying a broad and heavy iron sword in his hand.

"No, should it be three?"

"Little friends, don't be afraid. Come to uncle here..."

The man on the right was shriveled and old, exuding gloominess, holding a magic staff glowing with a faint blue light.

Clearly, the two people in front of them were two of the mages invading Tenrou Island.

The strong man with the sword asked, "What should we do?"

The old mage replied, "No need to hold back. Kill them all."

"Really? They are just children!"

"Do you think keeping them alive is a good thing? We are a dark guild; we don't need to worry about so much!"

"Run!"

Before the other party could finish speaking, Weston grabbed Mavis's hand, turned around, and rushed into the nearby alley.

"Trying to escape? Keep dreaming!"

The strong man shouted loudly, swung his right arm, and hurled the long sword forcefully at the two of them.

The flying sword was fast and heavy, catching up behind them in the blink of an eye.

THUD—!!

With a heavy sound, the flying sword ruthlessly pierced through the figures of the two, embedding itself deeply into the ground. Yet, not a single drop of blood splattered, nor did any severed limbs fall; instead, a large amount of debris splashed up!

"What happened? They disappeared?!"

The strong man's eyes widened instantly, unable to believe that he had actually missed.

"Idiot, look clearly. That was just an illusion!"

"Their real bodies are over there!!"

The old mage pointed his magic staff towards another direction. The strong man looked over and indeed saw two small figures, instantly astonished.

"So it was an illusion? But when..."

"Wait! Are you saying such small children can already use such exquisite Illusion Magic?!"

"Hehehe..."

"These two brats are interesting!"

The old mage sneered coldly, raised the magic staff in his hand, and aimed at the two escaping in the distance.

After a brief gathering of magic power, countless pillars of blue fire shot out from the tip of the magic staff!

Whoosh whoosh whoosh—

The pillars of fire were incredibly swift and dense, crossing a distance of tens of meters in the blink of an eye, flying straight from one end of the street to the other.

Rumble...

Countless buildings were collapsed, shattered, and severed by the fire pillars.

The incomparable high temperature scorched every spot it hit black; even stones could not escape the bad luck, turning into charcoal within a few breaths.

"Weston, another attack is coming!!"

Noticing the magic attack behind them, panic on Mavis's face grew.

Her magic had just awakened. Although she could create illusions realistic enough to pass for the real thing, she couldn't hide their real bodies.

"I know, hold on tight!"

Braking with his left foot to stop, and turning his body with the momentum, Weston shielded the two girls behind him, facing the enemy's magic attack head-on.
