Chapter 4 - Looks like today’s my lucky day

Chapter 3 - Looks like today's my lucky day

At the exact instant Grayfia became his servant, Cain felt a torrent of power flood his body.

His physical strength and demonic power surged upward, shattering every limit he'd hit as a High-Class and still climbing.

The contract ritual wasn't even finished yet, but he pulled up his panel anyway.

[Cain Lucifuge]

[Race: Primordial Devil]

[Level: LV51]

[Unique Authority: Primordial Devil Transformation]

[Servants: Grayfia]

[Skills: Devil Contract • Devil Summoning • Infinite Demonic Power]

Cain's eyes widened. Fifty-one? From a single servant?

It had to be because of how strong Grayfia already was.

He focused on the new skill.

[Infinite Demonic Power: Demonic power is limitless. Any expenditure recovers instantly.]

A slow grin spread across his face. Endless stamina in battle. That was broken.

"Cain… are you Ultimate-Class now?"

Grayfia stared at him in open shock. The pressure rolling off him had just skyrocketed past High-Class level.

"That's part of my ability," he said with a shrug. "You got something new too."

"What are you talking about?"

"Hang on."

He grabbed paper and a pen and quickly wrote down what he was seeing.

Technically, Infinite Demonic Power had appeared on Grayfia first. Because she was his servant, the skill reflected onto him as well.

A minute later he handed her the page.

Grayfia's panel (visible only to Cain):

[Grayfia Lucifuge]

[Race: Devil]

[Master: Cain Lucifuge]

[Level: LV63]

[Skill: Infinite Demonic Power]

She read it once, twice, then looked up at him, stunned. "This actually exists?"

Her reserves hadn't grown much, but with infinite recovery? Her combat endurance had just become absurd. And every bottleneck she'd ever felt was gone.

All because of him.

Grayfia's expression turned serious. "Cain, is there a limit to how many servants you can have?"

He shook his head. "None."

Compared to the limit of the Evil Piece system, that was an insane advantage.

"Then you keep this an absolute secret," she said firmly. "At least until you're strong enough that no one can touch you. Unlimited reincarnation that can even grant brand new powers? The old guys in the Underworld would lose their minds."

...

"Fia, you sure you won't come to the human world with me?"

"I've still got things to finish here. I'll join you as soon as I can."

After saying goodbye to Grayfia, Cain left the castle with a single bag slung over his shoulder.

A short while later he stepped into a massive underground terminal that looked suspiciously like a regular train station except everything was black and crimson and covered in devil runes.

A sleek, angular train waited on the tracks.

"Pretty modern for the Underworld," Cain muttered, boarding.

Normally devils just teleported wherever they wanted once they had the coordinates, but first-time visitors had to go through official channels. Anything else counted as illegal entry and caused paperwork headaches.

Grayfia had handled everything, of course.

He found his seat in first class, watched the rippling void outside the window for a bit, then started checking his stuff.

Not much: clothes, phone, some basic necessities for the human world.

He pulled out the address of the apartment Grayfia had bought him; nice place, fully furnished and then he opened his wallet.

One hundred thousand yen.

He stared at it and sighed.

He'd asked for more. She'd smiled sweetly and told him it would be good life experience.

"Fine. I'm a devil. If I need cash, I'll just appropriate it from someone who doesn't deserve it. I'm sure they'll understand."

An hour later the train surfaced. Cain stepped off, took the hidden elevator up, and walked out into Kuoh Town's main station like any normal teenager.

The afternoon sun was bright, the streets were busy, and the town was a lot bigger than the name suggested.

He wandered for a bit, half hoping to spot an easy target to tax, but apparently everyone was on their best behavior today.

Then the Devil Contract skill started pulsing faintly on his panel.

Cain's eyes narrowed. "Well, well. Looks like today's my lucky day."

He extended his senses, locked onto the signal, and vanished in a flicker of shadow.

Several passersby froze mid-step.

"Did… did anyone else just see a ghost?"

They looked up at the perfectly normal sun and shivered anyway.

Somewhere in Kuoh, someone had just performed a devil summoning ritual.

And Cain had answered the call.
