The phone buzzes on the counter, dragging me out of the girls' chatter. I grab it, frowning at the name flashing on the screen. Ivy.
"Elaine, you need to come home," her voice is sharp but tinged with worry. "We need to talk. Now."
I blink, my stomach tightening. "Is everything okay?" I ask, though a knot of unease has already formed.
"No," she snaps, and then her voice softens slightly. "Just come home pleas."
I glance at Tessa, June, and Lila, who are mid-laugh at something June said. I force a smile. "I'm so sorry, ladies, I'll be back."
They wave me off, but I notice June frowning, and Tessa giving me a concerned look. Lila just nudges me playfully. I promise I'll come back, even though I'm not entirely sure.
