Chapter 71 - Chapter 71: If solving the problem is a hassle, then solve the one causing it.

"Just looking at Belobog from the inside, you'd never guess the world outside is plagued by the Eternal Freeze and overrun by Fragmentum creatures."

Gazing at the orderly, bustling streets of Belobog, Firefly couldn't help but murmur.

If Cocolia hadn't just explained everything about Belobog's situation, the sight of these lively streets and hurrying pedestrians would have completely hidden the truth—that beyond the city walls lay endless, crushing ice and snow.

Recalling Cocolia's description, Firefly felt a sudden urge to transform right then into [Sam] and burn all that frozen wasteland away.

Beside her, Clara gave Firefly a sidelong glance. Just from the look on her face, Clara knew exactly what was going through her mind. She spoke slowly, almost lazily.

"You're thinking, 'Why not just turn into Sam, melt all the ice and snow on this planet, and solve their Eternal Freeze crisis in one go,' right?"

"Uh… is it that obvious on my face?"

Found out, Firefly offered an awkward smile, a little embarrassed. Then, rather naively, she asked Clara:

"So… Clara, what do you think of my idea?"

"If I melt all the ice, Belobog won't have a freeze crisis anymore, right?"

Clara: ?

Hearing this, Clara turned her eyes toward Firefly with visible exasperation.

"Let's set aside why we, as the infamous cosmic villains Stellaron Hunters, should help Belobog at all."

"Once you ignite all that ice and snow, it'll turn into an ocean. A colossal tidal wave would rise and swallow Belobog whole."

"What you'd be doing is just speeding up their destruction."

Clara let out a yawn and waved a hand dismissively.

"But I could—"

"I know what you're going to say."

Firefly didn't even finish before Clara cut her off.

"'Set the seas ablaze' right?"

Clara hit the nail on the head. A giant tidal wave? An ocean? How to deal with it? That was Firefly's specialty—just set it on fire.

"But have you considered one thing: why would you go through all that effort for something that does nothing for you?"

After saying this, Clara added a question of her own: "Do you know what I would do?"

"What would you do?" Firefly asked, genuinely curious.

"Compared to setting the seas ablaze… I'd rather ignite Belobog. Ignite the whole of Jarilo-VI."

Clara spread her hands, her words chilling as ice despite her warm tone.

"If dealing with the disaster is too troublesome, then just eliminate the life—the plants, the beings—that the disaster affects."

"That way, there's no disaster left to speak of."

"Hmm… that… does make sense…"

Firefly pondered for a moment and found the logic quite sound.

If solving the problem is a hassle, then solve the one causing it.

Yeah, perfect solution!

"Hey, Clara… are we going the wrong way?"

After her moment of reflection, Firefly noticed the direction Clara was heading seemed odd.

There were no buildings ahead—just a sprawling garbage dump.

"Not wrong at all. Look." Clara pointed toward a specific trash can among the heaps.

"Huh?" Firefly followed Clara's finger to a trash can that looked exactly like all the others, noticing nothing special.

"Eh…?"

Under Firefly's gaze, that trash can seemed to… shift slightly.

"Must be seeing things."

Firefly rubbed her eyes, doubting her vision.

But when she looked again after rubbing them, the trash can took several clear steps right in front of Firefly and Clara.

Firefly: ???
