Both women froze for a second before nodding nervously and following her. Mary was worried about the children in their bellies. Whether to keep them or not was a decision that would change the rest of their lives. With their physical disabilities and current circumstances, raising a child would only make survival harder.
Inside the room, Mary pulled over two chairs and gestured for them to sit. Her voice was calm and unhurried. "How many months along are you now?"
"It should be eight months," Samantha answered softly. "Susan and I are about the same."
Mary nodded slightly and got straight to the point. "Have you thought about whether you want to give birth to these children? Once they're born, life will become even harder."
The room fell silent. The two women lowered their heads. This question had haunted them countless nights. Without family support and without money, they had dragged the matter on until their bellies were already too big to hide.
