Chapter Thirty – Paranormal Realm 28
Deep into the night, everyone had retired to their rooms, inside his room, the room was dark, save for the thin silver line of moonlight cutting through the curtains.
Rowan lay on his back, hands folded loosely over his stomach, staring at the ceiling. Beside him, Maxx was already fast asleep, turned slightly on his side, breath deep and even. One arm was thrown carelessly across Rowan's pillow, like he'd claimed the space without even realizing it.
Typical Maxx.
Rowan smiled faintly, then let it fade.
The house had gone quiet hours ago. His parents' presence lingered in the walls, comforting but distant. The scent of dinner still clung faintly to the air meat, spice, warmth. Home.
And yet, his mind refused to rest.
He shifted slightly, careful not to wake Maxx, and exhaled through his nose.
"So," he whispered into the darkness, voice barely audible. "This is my life now."
No response.
He waited anyway.
