Ever since the toad-man Matthew Harlan completed his Awakening, a series of mutant awakenings began to occur, each accompanied by varying degrees of physical mutation.

One of them was a mutant known as Gray Silk, her entire body covered in strange patterns. After being injected with the mutation growth hormone, this Caucasian girl grew a pair of enormous butterfly wings from her back, and the original patterns automatically transferred onto the wings.

Her other awakened form allowed her to transform into a gigantic butterfly nearly two meters in length. By flapping her wings, she could release butterfly scales—a powder with mild hallucinogenic effects.

Another mutant, Clementine, who possessed cat-like eyes, grew feline ears and claws after the injection. Her awakened form became that of a fully grown black cat.

The mutant Jack Yorkton—who had long shown an unusually fanatical belief in the theory of mutant supremacy—became even more extraordinary after receiving the drug. The yellow scales that once covered only his face now spread across his entire body. His height surged to 2.7 meters, and his once fair skin turned blue.

The combination of blue skin and yellow scales made his body shimmer, possessing a deep-sea aesthetic unique to ocean life.

Jack Yorkton had effectively transformed from a human into a fish-man resembling those of a pirate world, with his strength and speed greatly enhanced.

The only regret was that he had no awakened combat state—this appeared to be his final form after the estranged gene had fully taken effect.

It had to be admitted that when Jack Yorkton transformed into a fish-man, all the scientists of the Evolution Institute were stunned.

For scientists, Jack Yorkton's fish-man form filled a long-standing gap in scientific theory: if humans had never left the ocean, would they eventually have evolved into fish-men?

Even Lancelot couldn't help but personally appear before Jack Yorkton to offer encouragement and praise.

"My lord, Jack's experimental data is out," Mystique Raven said with a smile as she entered Lancelot's room holding a report.

Lancelot casually took the data from Raven, his eyes gleaming like rubies.

"Their strength, speed, and resilience are six times that of normal humans. If the scientists researching the super-soldier serum found out, they'd go insane," Lancelot said with amusement, glancing at the data before turning around. Raven looked at him as well.

"Raven, how are things going with the Hellfire Club?" Lancelot cared far more about the Hellfire Club than about Jack's data.

The first decisive battle in the mutant world was drawing closer.

The Black King of the Hellfire Club was still traveling the world, evading Professor X's telepathy while continuing his nuclear explosion plan.

Shaw had long since forgotten about the White Queen, Emma, and had never considered that Professor X and Magneto might now be unable to freely track him.

The Cold War between the two superpowers was on the verge of erupting. Warships and nuclear submarines had already been deployed near Cuban waters and were steadily closing in.

The Black King also began absorbing the leaked nuclear energy from the submarines he had seized once again, making himself even stronger.

Azazel and Riptide were inseparable from the Black King, guarding him like loyal sentinels at all times.

Just three days earlier, the Black King had finally met an important Soviet figure—General Maxim Ivanov—and reached a pre-war alliance agreement through his own plans.

What Shaw never dreamed of was that the so-called General Maxim he met was actually his fellow mutant—Mystique Raven.

"Honestly, our mutant comrade Shaw is truly insane," Mystique Raven chuckled softly, recalling her first encounter with the three members of the Hellfire Club and listening to Shaw ramble endlessly about a new nuclear era.

Even she, a mutant herself, couldn't help but sigh at Shaw's madness.

"Yes. Losing Emma's telepathy made Shaw anxious—and caused him to lose himself," Lancelot said as he picked up another document from the table. It was a notice from the Hellfire Club regarding the transfer of Azazel to a KGB base.

It detailed all of Shaw's plans, including the tentative final date of the nuclear detonation—three days later.

"Three days? Raven, go tell Shaw the Black King that his timing is too rushed. Delay the plan by half a month," Lancelot said, handing her the document. Raven immediately nodded in understanding.

"I understand, my king. I'll have them delay the plan. But before you act again, please allow me to serve you."

Mystique Raven smiled, instantly transforming into a peerless beauty—strikingly similar to Black Widow Claire, with an even more exaggerated figure.

"Raven, that's exactly why I like you," Lancelot said with a smile, stepping forward to embrace her.

Lancelot and Raven were playing cards.

Deep beneath the open sea, a nuclear submarine lay quietly at rest. Inside, Shaw, Azazel, Riptide, and the dragonfly mutant Salvador were all frowning.

"Azazel, are you saying you still haven't found Professor X or Magneto?" Shaw asked irritably, wearing his psychic-defense helmet as he stared at Azazel.

Since losing the White Queen, Shaw had worn that rather ugly helmet constantly—never daring to remove it, even while sleeping.

He had briefly clashed with Professor X and Magneto before. Shaw didn't care about Magneto's strength—after all, Magneto had been shaped by Shaw himself, yet still remained as weak and pitiful as he was in childhood.

What truly terrified Shaw was Professor X's psychic power—a force even the White Queen had never possessed. Facing such overwhelming mental strength, even Emma could only resist it briefly.

It was an ability capable of erasing another person's consciousness with ease.

That power made Shaw unwilling to face Professor X alone without protection.

Even as time passed, Professor X remained an inescapable shadow in Shaw's heart. He desperately wanted to find Professor X and Magneto, then charge straight in and kill Professor X by force.

Yet what unsettled Shaw was that Professor X and Magneto seemed to have vanished from the world entirely—no matter how hard they searched, they couldn't find them.

"How are things on Maxim's side?" Shaw asked Azazel again.

Azazel was the only Level Five spatial mutant. As long as a location existed on Earth, he could reach it instantly—unlike Phantom John, who was reluctant even when his ability covered part of the planet.

Thus, Azazel had become Shaw's most trusted lieutenant.

"I've sent the plan to the KGB base, but we haven't received a response yet," Azazel said, shaking his head. The complex, mysterious markings on his red skin made him look like a true demon.

"Hah, I understand. I'll continue absorbing nuclear energy over the next few days. Leave this to you. Once Maxim agrees to our plan, we move immediately," Shaw said, opening a dark chamber and stepping inside as the metal door closed behind him.

He wanted to accumulate power—he wanted to absorb as much energy as possible during civilization's final moments, so that in the mutant future after the nuclear explosion, he could still reign as the Black King, surpassing all mutants.
