Chapter 2: The Mute Began to Speak
Gregor didn't realize that the two people had such strong opinions about him; he remained calm and was about to sit on the sofa.
"Stand there!"
Helen shouted sharply. Gregor was taken aback, frowned slightly, but didn't resist.
He felt that Helen was his mother-in-law.
The Cavendish family had been extremely kind to him, so he took her scolding as the same as his own mother's reprimand.
Helen's expression eased a bit when she saw that Gregor was obedient.
Before she could say anything else, Lionel walked over to Gregor in a few steps.
Helen noticed that the two of them were about the same height. Strangely, Gregor, who usually looked frail, seemed to exude more presence than Lionel at this moment.
Helen was puzzled and thought she must be seeing things wrongly.
Isabella, standing by, also felt that Gregor seemed like a completely different person.
However, in Lionel's eyes, Gregor was just pretending to be calm.
"I have two reasons for coming here," Lionel said to Gregor with a smile, "First, to see what kind of person Selina has married. Second, I'll decide how to deal with this situation based on what I see."
Hearing this, Gregor was astonished.
He didn't understand when his marriage's affairs would need to be decided by an outsider.
"Auntie, Selina has been my friend since we were kids. I just want to see if her husband can bring her happiness. You won't be unhappy about that, will you?" Lionel asked Helen.
Helen felt uncomfortable; after all, this was a matter concerning the Cavendish family. No matter how close Lionel was to Selina, he was still an outsider.
But Helen didn't say anything. To be honest, she wished Gregor would make a mistake so he would leave the Cavendish family, and then Selina could find a better suitor!
Since Helen remained silent, Lionel assumed she agreed and turned to Gregor.
"Now that I've seen for myself, I'll make my decision," Lionel said, taking a step back and looking down on Gregor. "You're not up to the task."
"What Selina needs is someone who can help her, and your presence will only hold her back."
Lionel continued, "I don't know what Selina thinks, but if you have any sense of decency, you should realize that leaving her is what's best for her."
"I'll give you one hundred thousand pounds. Starting today, you must leave the Cavendish family."
Gregor stood still, watching Lionel as if he were looking at a fool.
Lionel's face was full of arrogance. He thought Gregor would either go crazy and attack him or throw things in anger to prove his dignity.
But why was Gregor so calm?
For some reason, Lionel felt a sense of fear when Gregor stared at him.
This made him irritable.
"What are you looking at? Just a useless mute! Didn't you kill your parents, and now you're trying to ruin Selina's life!"
"I'm telling you, Gregor—since I've returned, I won't let Selina stay with you! Soon, you'll be kicked out of the Cavendish family! I'll take Selina to the top, while you'll always be a mute looking up to me!" Lionel said coldly.
Then he turned to Helen, "Auntie, such a coward like you can't bring Selina happiness. Just say a word, and I'll have Selina married off to a better suitor!"
Helen didn't respond, so Lionel assumed she agreed and turned back to Gregor.
"Now that I've seen for myself, I'll make my decision," Lionel said. He stepped back and looked at Gregor with disdain. "You're not good enough."
"What Selina needs is someone who can help her. You'll only drag her down."
Lionel continued, "I don't know what Selina thinks, but if you have any sense of decency, you should know that leaving her is for her own good."
"I'll give you one hundred thousand pounds. From today on, you must leave the Cavendish family."
Gregor remained motionless, watching Lionel as if he were a fool.
Lionel's face was full of pride. He thought Gregor would either strike out in anger or throw things in frustration.
But why was Gregor so calm?
Lionel's expression turned cold, and he felt a sudden fear when Gregor stared at him.
This made him furious.
"What are you looking at? Just a useless mute! Didn't you kill your parents, and now you're trying to ruin Selina's life!"
"I'm telling you, Gregor—since I've returned, I won't let Selina stay with you! Soon, you'll be thrown out of the Cavendish family! I'll take Selina to the top, while you'll always be a mute looking up to me!"
Then he turned to Helen, "Auntie, how can such a coward bring Selina happiness? Just say a word, and I'll marry Selina tomorrow!"
Helen shivered, her mind in turmoil.
Gregor's eyes were cold as he turned to Helen, who showed no intention of defending him.
"Don't be silly. Even a fool would choose a decent husband, not a worthless loser like you! As long as I'm around, you'll always be at my feet!"
Gregor's gaze was cold as he met Lionel's.
There was indifference to the world in his eyes, a depth that bordered on the afterlife. Lionel felt a sudden fear.
He was frightened by a mute...
This felt humiliating to Lionel!
Lionel's face turned dark, and he raised his hand to grab Gregor's collar, ready to throw him out.
But Gregor didn't move at all.
"Who do you think you are?"
Realizing he couldn't move Gregor, Lionel gritted his teeth and raised his fist to hit him.
No one expected this.
Isabella, who had been watching, quickly stood up to stop him.
But then, Lionel's fist was easily grabbed by a hand.
The owner of that hand was Gregor!
Everyone in the hall was stunned by Gregor's newfound strength.
Lionel's face turned red as he struggled in vain.
"Useless fool, do you think you can cause trouble?"
Just then, Gregor suddenly moved and grabbed Lionel's neck.
No one expected this.
Isabella tried to stop him, but her efforts were in vain.
Gregor's grip was strong.
"This... who do you think you are?"
Lionel, furious, raised his fist to hit Gregor, but...
Throughout this entire encounter, Helen hadn't said a word, as if she had agreed with Lionel's actions.
Lionel tried harder, but he couldn't budge Gregor.
"Who do you think you are?"
Frustrated, Lionel raised his fist to hit Gregor...
But then Gregor suddenly moved, and Lionel couldn't move him at all.
"You think you can do anything?"
Lionel, realizing he couldn't move Gregor, gritted his teeth and threw his fist at Gregor's head...
No one expected this.
Isabella tried to stop him, but...
At that moment, Gregor's phone rang.
Helen answered, and the caller seemed very anxious. After hearing what was said, she froze.
"Selina was arrested?"
Selina was arrested?
Everyone in the room was shocked.
"I'll be there right away!"
Helen hung up and hurriedly left with Lionel and Isabella.
Gregor followed them.
"Why did you come out?" Helen asked, disgust on her face. "Stay at home and don't cause trouble!"
Gregor just stood there, indifferent.
He knew the Cavendish family didn't like him; after all, the marriage was Selina's idea, and the parents didn't agree.
With Lionel's interference, Helen disliked him even more.
But Selina was his wife, and if she was in trouble, he had to help.
He hailed a taxi and headed to the Eagle Cosmetics Company.
The company was surrounded by a crowd.
A charming, curvy woman was in the middle, being scolded by someone.
That woman was Selina.
Opposite her was a woman with a pimple-covered face.
The woman was cursing at Selina.
"My face was ruined by your cosmetics! You little thief!"
Selina, panicked by the accusations, thought the cosmetics couldn't be responsible.
The woman, jealous of Selina's beauty, demanded compensation.
"Either go to jail or scrape off your face and apologize for my losses!"
Selina was stunned; that demand was outrageous.
The company was in trouble, and the police were there.
Helen called for help, and they rushed to the scene.
Gregor also followed.
"Why did you come out?" Helen asked, driving away in disgust.
Gregor just stood there, unbothered.
He knew the family didn't like him; the marriage was Selina's idea.
With Lionel's interference, Helen disliked him even more.
But Selina was his wife, and he had to help her.
He hailed a taxi to the Eagle Cosmetics Company.
A crowd surrounded the building, with angry shouts inside.
Selina was in the middle, scolded by a woman with a pimple-covered face.
Helen, Isabella, and Lionel arrived and were shocked by the situation.
"Mom," Selina said, "My colleague called; what's going on?"
Helen explained that the woman's pimples were caused by the cosmetics, but no one else had the same problem.
"Are you her mother?"
The woman demanded compensation.
Helen tried to mediate, but the woman refused.
"Otherwise, go to jail!"
Helen called the police, and they resolved the issue.
Gregor stayed to help, but his patience was at an end.
"Do you know that hitting someone is illegal?" Helen asked, worried.
Then Gregor's phone rang.
It was about Selina's arrest.
They rushed to the police station, and Gregor remembered Lionel's behavior.
"Company trouble; Selina's in trouble," Helen said.
They negotiated with the police, and Selina was released.
Gregor followed them back to the house, still unbothered.
They went to the police station, where Gregor's skills came in handy.
Helen, still upset, asked what had happened.
"Can you really fix her face?" she asked.
Gregor assured her he could, and they resolved the issue.
Afterward, Helen was grateful.
But Selina's colleague caused trouble, and Gregor decided to help, no matter the cost.
They returned home, and Helen was angry at Lionel's behavior.
"Why did you cause all this trouble?" she asked.
Gregor explained what had happened.
Then his phone rang again, and they heard that Selina had been arrested again.
They rushed to the police station, and Gregor helped resolve the situation.
Helen was grateful, but still upset by Lionel's actions.
Gregor followed them back to the house, where Helen was still angry.
"Why did you lie about being able to fix her face?" she asked.
Gregor explained, and then his phone rang again.
It was about Selina's new problem.
