Chapter 7 - Cracks Beneath the Surface

Kabir Rathod had learned long ago that danger rarely arrived with noise.

It came quietly.

With familiar faces.

With trusted hands.

---

The factory on the outskirts of the city buzzed with controlled chaos. Machines roared, workers moved in disciplined rhythm, and security stood alert at every corner. To the world, it was just another Rathod Industries unit. To Kabir, it was a place where business and underworld often brushed shoulders.

Kabir walked through the factory floor with calm authority. Managers followed, nervous and attentive.

"Production numbers?" Kabir asked.

"On track, sir," one of them replied quickly.

Kabir nodded, but his eyes missed nothing.

Something was off.

---

From the shadows of the office wing, Sameer Malhotra, a senior operations head—and one of Kabir's oldest trusted men—watched silently. His expression was unreadable, his loyalty once unquestionable.

Once.

That evening, as Kabir returned to his private office inside the factory, his phone buzzed.

"Sir," his security head said quietly, "there's a leak. Internal."

Kabir's jaw tightened.

"Names?"

"We're confirming. But… signs point toward someone very close."

Kabir said nothing.

Silence was always his most dangerous weapon.

---

Later that night, Kabir sat with his family in the ancestral house.

The Rathod home was different from his offices—warm, grounded, protected.

His grandmother Savitri placed food on his plate. "You've lost weight."

Kabir gave a faint smile. "Business."

His grandfather Vikram looked at him sharply. "Business doesn't do this. Burdens do."

Kabir met his gaze.

Nothing escaped the old man.

Aditya broke the tension. "We're going racing this weekend. Rahul's idea."

Rahul grinned. "You need to breathe sometimes, bhai."

Kabir nodded slightly.

Family was the only place where he didn't need to explain himself.

They didn't ask questions.

They trusted him.

---

But even here—

Aara's face followed him.

Her quiet eyes. Her fear.

And the way she looked at him that afternoon—like he was something she didn't understand but instinctively wanted to stay away from.

That bothered him.

---

The next day at the office, tension was thick.

Aara sensed it immediately.

People whispered. Movements were monitored. Security doubled.

She focused on her work, trying to disappear into routine.

But fate had other plans.

As she turned a corner, she nearly collided with Kabir.

"I— I'm sorry, sir," she said instantly, stepping back.

Kabir looked at her.

Up close.

Too close.

For a second, the world paused.

"Be careful," he said, voice low.

That was it.

Two words.

But something in his tone made her look up.

Their eyes met.

This was the first time they truly saw each other.

Not as an owner and intern.

But as two people standing at the edge of something dangerous.

Aara's heartbeat raced.

Kabir noticed.

And something dark inside him responded.

---

He stepped back first.

"Go," he said.

Aara didn't wait.

She walked away, breath unsteady.

Kabir watched her until she disappeared.

Then his expression hardened.

---

That evening, the truth surfaced.

Sameer Malhotra.

The betrayal hit deep.

Sameer stood in front of Kabir in a private room, sweat lining his forehead.

"It wasn't personal," Sameer said desperately. "Just business."

Kabir laughed softly.

A terrifying sound.

"Everything is personal," Kabir replied.

What followed never reached official records.

By morning, Sameer Malhotra was gone.

And everyone understood one thing clearly—

Kabir Rathod did not forgive betrayal.

---

That night, Kabir stood alone again.

Blood on his hands. Silence in his chest.

And Aara's face in his mind.

That was the most dangerous part.

Because if she ever learned who he truly was—

She would fear him.

And Kabir Rathod didn't know whether he could accept that.

For the first time, power felt heavy.

And love—

Felt like a threat.

The cracks beneath his control were spreading.

And sooner or later—

Everything hidden would come to light.
